Whitehurst is closed by the way

Run in with the Virginia Game Warden? "Tell your stories"
had several run-ins with VA game wardens. Most involved hunting and for the most part they were as courteous as can be. One incident involved some dog hunting . I shot a deer on a property line and some guy who was still-hunting went crazy on me and said i was poaching and stuff.. heck i was 12 and i didn't know the word poaching ! but the guy continued and ended up calling the warden. Heres the best part... when the warden showed he saw how crazy this guy was and how bad he was treating a 12 year old that he called the suffolk police and they came and took the guy to jail for harassment! i couldn't have lauged any harder!!!!!

Carolina Riggin'
pretty much work it the same way you would work a worm but i like to drag mine to the side instead of up and down.. and when you set the hook DONT SET IT UP! set it to the side because if you set up your gonna create a bow in your line with that weight ahead f your leader and hook= lost fish. So drag and set to the side... thats my advice

what exactly does it take?

But hopefully ill be fishing in college too if I play my cards right.. still working a deal with a college in TN. Maybe dreams can come true.. only time will tell.

deep water help!!
i like braid but only in certain circumstances( punching threw grass or flipping some heavy cover with murky water) but as far as working offshore i never use the stuff. i feel like it sacrifices bited to use it. fluro is pretty good but i use IZORLINE XXX . its a pretty good copolymer line but if i was you i would lose the braid when your going deep.. i think the fish might be able to see it haha

need a inexpensive replacement rod and fast!!!

deep water help!!
yea it is a bit odd.. i guess the natural current in those bigger lakes shakes the water up enough so those bass can sit right on the bottom.. like on kerr dam reservoir in carolina where i fish. when the summer finally hits, those fish sit on the bottom in 20-30 ft of water because the lake is so broad and wind-beaten, plus they pull water periodically so it keeps it pretty stirred up. But on my home lake, its small and the thermocline is only at 10 ft so they suspend in the standing timber that consumes the 1000 acre lake. It can be pretty tough but i pick em off pretty handily by counting down a spinnerbait or swimbait or maybe even a spoon ! haha

deep water help!!
well judging from that it means that there isn't much of a thermocline on your lake ... with bigger lakes the wind will often stir up the water enough to create ample oxygen levels for the bass so there wont be a thermocline. Essentially the location of the thermocline means that below it there isn't enough oxygen for the fish to survive hense the suspending and what not. but if they are right on the bottom then you probably dont have one so just keep fishing those humps and points and look for the "sweet spots".

how would you fish this type of lake
i also have the same problem on my lake with emergent vegatation.. i struggled for a while until i came up with a slightly different kind of rig. i like to tie on a 3/0 EWG hook rigged with a watermelon floating worm with a splitshot up the line about a foot or so. this little split shot rig wont dig into the grass but instead it will dart and dance just above it. i have had great success with it over the past few years. i hope this works for you. Best of luck. Tight Lines!

Va guys post up!
i see there are alot of Northen VA guys up here! but im not one of them haha... Im located in Isle of Wight County , VA.. i fish all the suffolk lakes as well as Gaston, Kerr, the potomac , and the three rivers( Chowan, nottoway, and Blackwater) . If anyone wants to do some fishing around hampton roads let me know. i also live on Lake Burnt Mills which is one of the suffolk lakers that has been closed for three years and the fishing has been phenomenal.. biggest string yet went 32.04 lbs on 5 fish including an 8.6 and 3 6+ lbers. . anyways nice to seee the Virginia guys posting it up! best of luck to all!

Best jig rod between Daiwa zillion and kistler
i like the kistlers but have had problems with the guides... im not sure y but i have had guides break on two different occasions.. i personally like a carrot stik... they are super light and only run $150 .. and although many people knock the guides i have had no problems. even with braid

deep water help!!
try paying attention to your sonar alot when fishing and the fish will often tell you the depth of the thermocline. Often times they will suspend just above it and it will give you a pretty good idea where its at. on your lake it could be anywhere from 10 to 30 ft. Just keep your eyes glued to that sonar and it will often tell you the answer. As for the slow activity following the front it could be because of a change in barometric pressure. Often times that low pressure folling a storm front can shut the bass right down even though it seems like the weather itself has not changed. But you have the right idea in locating these summer bass. They will indeed be on these humps and points but often times they will be located on little "sweet spots" within the structure i.e. a ditch , a slight break or depth change, or maybe even a brush pile. In the heat of the summer those fish will often group around those spots instead roaming along the the whole point or hump. try carolina rigging or drop shotting or maybe even a large texas rigged worm to pick these fish off. just remeber to be slow and methodical when fishing them because ofthen times these fish are going to be rather lethargic during the heat of the day. I hope this helped a little bit and best of luck to you. Tight Lines!

summer bass?
try to fish that cover as close as possible with senkos and texas-rigged worms . often times when it is hot those bass are gonna be holding tight to the cover. the shakey -head around the cover can also work too but make sure when u hook up u keep light pressure on those bass and guide them away from the cover.. trying to horse them will only lead them to burying themselves in cover and breaking you off.. also try working those points over thoroughly with the carolina rig( i prefer to rig a watermelon fluke. they seem to love them) as well as a deep crank. often time those bass will be on the deeper ends of those points waiting for food to come swimming by. remeber that when the sun is blazing these bass are going to be lethargic so you are going to have to be patient and methodical with you retrieve. But when you get some cloud cover they will be more active and willing to bite a reaction lure.. I hope this helps and best of luck to you. Tight lines!

The Shallows seem dead?
Yea sounds like you pretty much have got it... just try to fish the drops because those bass are gonna relate to them.. those pad edges can be pretty good too.. i have had great success fishing the edges with a wacky -rigged senko.. seems to get em everytime.. anyways good luck to ya.. tight lines!
