  1. Spare me the BS - disagreeing with a bunch of anonymous internet posters makes you the strong guy? Yet in real life you've never turned in those who cheat, nor would have done it in this case because you know d**n well you'd take heat from your posse and that's not something you want to have to deal with. I'm not sure how you can possibly make your case any weaker but you're managing to pull it off. That's no easy feat.
  2. In the very same sentence you stated no infraction was made (when comparing to your car scenario) and someone broke the rules. Er, it's one or the other, can't be both. You're just taking the easy way out because you don't want to be ridiculed for actually standing up for something that might be unpopular. Heaven forbid anyone risk their comfort zone by doing the right thing. How sad.
  3. What an absolutely weak analogy. How about I fix it for you. - There's a race going on with 100 other racers - There's $100,000 at stake to win the race - The rules state no speeding of any kind is allowed. - 1 individual goes 5mph over the limit but does it in a place where only you can see he did it. To tolerate wrongdoing is simply giving approval to that behavior, plain and simple. How you can think your "tongue-lashing" would be sufficient, in essence now makes you the rule governing body since you think you can just change the rules as you see fit. Not reporting an infraction when your direct responsibility is to report infractions, makes you just as guilty. You should then be dq'd as well. How this is even remotely gray is beyond me. Unbelievable.
  4. 8 lbs is the recommended max for the very reasons you are experiencing.

I have nothing to add other than the sheer admiration I possess for the toad of a smallmouth in Dwight's avatar. Carry on.
  6. Hi's tackle has the 50E on sale for $109. Link: http://www.histackleboxshop.com/Hot-New-Reel-From-Shimano-CU50E-p/shimano-curado-e-50e.htm EDIT: Sold out already. Mods - please delete .
  7. If you pull up on the thumb bar and crank at the same time(even though the thumb bar is no longer depressed, pull it up anyways), does it engage and the spool spin?
  8. When you have short-man syndrome, you need all the help you can get..
  9. The newer PQ's don't use the BPS logo as a button - you need to pull the bar that runs across the top out, which then releases the side plate. It's the same as the Revo only the Revo's bar you screw/unscrew. The ProQ bar is spring tensioned.
  10. I have both Curado and Zillions. You can't compare the 50 series to the Zillion - apples and oranges (both on target price and intended use). The Zillion may be my favorite reel but the Curado is also excellent. So are Revos, Pfluegers, and Lews. The posse's insecurity is hilarious, but not a reason to bash a very good product.
  11. Many years back my brother-in-law explained to me what's needed to do a Texas rig. Had never heard of it before and so I wrote down what I needed. I then did extended research on what it was and how to fish it, tested it out and it actually worked (had never fished plastics before). After that I was all-in.
  12. Although I am a big fan of Mend-it, the lighter will work as needed. You don't apply the flame to the plastic, however, you apply the flame to a pocket knife or something metal. You then put the hot metal on the plastic, remove and connect to the other piece of plastic. Normally you can heat both edges of a blade and thus apply it to both sides of the plastic. That being said, Mend-it is still better, imo.
  13. I have a different question - with the Palomar being not the best knot for fluoro, if you are drop-shotting with fluoro, what knot should be used for the hook? Note, I'm also a big fan of Grigsby's noideawhatitscalled knot. It just flat out works and is so easy to tie.
  14. I didn't think it was possible to make it less attractive than the Hunter Green color.
  15. I have 8-10 or so 300yd spools of the Fireline that I snagged when Dick's had it for $11 or under. I won't be trying a different braid for at least a decade considering how long it lasts for me.
  16. What size Fluoro are you putting on your spinning gear? 8 lbs Fluoro is the largest you should (assuming an average line diameter) use, so if you are using under that you will have far less problems. Larger than that and you need a baitcaster.
  17. In before Irene.
  18. Another option is Goretex socks - easily stowed in your tackle box. I have a pair of these and they're invaluable for many things waterproof boots don't work well for: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_511792_-1___ (note you wear them over your regular socks and then in whatever shoe/sandal/whatever you are wearing)
