Gator In the Water
Gators do not scare off all the fish; this year alone I've caught 3 bass over 10 lbs, an 11 lb 3 oz and dozens of tighteyes within sight of gators.

Swimming a worm?
The bass were telling you how they wanted the bait, I suggest you listen

Setting the hook
Some times the bass are simply aggressive, swallowing the bait completely as soon as the pick it up and a more sensitive rod would not help. But then this is why I don't let any fish run with any thing, if at any time I feel a noticeable tap, tug, line tighten, heaviness, or see line movement. Without hesitation I drop the rod, reel the slack, and set the hook

wacky rig with weight
A wacky rig with a 1/16-1/8 oz split shot weight 18-24 above the worm is highly productive among Guides on Toledo Bend. So is adding a 1 nail to the head of the worm

Yall what some secrets?
Here's a couple I've shared many times Question: what's a fast way to find deep water structure Answer: look for jugs marking catfish trotlines, every good catfish angler knows you find catfish on structure near deep water. Question: how do I know what baits to use Answer: I've learned to recognize every guide boat on Toledo Bend, so if I'm at a marina/launch I simply stroll by eyeing any rods on the deck. You can bet if a guide has it tied on he has been catching with it.

Need a Better DIRTY RICE RECIPIE
Dirty Rice a La Catt Ingredients: 2 pounds lean ground beef 2 pounds lean ground pork 1 pound ground chicken giblets 1 cup yellow onions (diced) 1 cup diced shallots (green onions) ½ cup diced (sweet) bell pepper ¼ cup garlic (preferably ground) ¼ cup parsley (cut up fine) 2 cups celery (cut up fine) 4 bay leaves 1 teaspoon black pepper 2 cans cream of mushroom soup 3 teaspoons Lea & Perrins Sauce ½ pound butter Salt to taste With about 2 cups of water, mix all meats together in a heavy pot, on medium hot burner. Add all the above seasonings ingredients except mushroom soup at the start of cooking. Cook medium speed approximately 4 hours. Stir often. Then add the cream of mushroom soup. Continue cooking for 30 minutes. Boil 2 pounds of rice, let rice cook completely. After rice has cooked, mix with the meat ingredients thoroughly. Allow to steam or cook on a low heat for approximately 30 minutes before serving.

Another depth finder question
As soon as the transom gets wet the depth finder is on & as soon as I drive the boat on the trailer I turn it off. I don't just turn it on; I'm constantly watching it while running, this is how I've found many a Honey Hole.
-
Transducer location?
I never mount a transducer inside a boat, you may want to lower it about a 1/16-1/8
