RecMar8541, you're right gators are not a threat except during mating season; however I wouldn't get closer than say 15 yards. I've walked thousands of miles of marshes/swamps in Southwest Louisiana without ever having an incident but I wouldn't suddenly walk up on a gator catching it by surprise. Gotta Love, It it's not against the law in Louisiana to throw fish head/guts back into the water, the problem they have in Florida is people feeding gators is they feed them food they would never find in the wild and then doing it on daily basis.

I've caught well before, during, & after During late winter, early spring, & fall fishing is better before a front because of falling barometric pressure. During summer we don't experience many fronts but heat thunder showers cool water temperatures moving bass out of thick cover.

I make a quick trip to Lacassine Wildlife Refuse this morning and had a very interesting trip. First let's set the back ground, when bank fishing this marsh one must often walk down small foot paths just wide enough for one person if you hold your rod straight up. You are walking through chest to head high weeds and brush to the waters edge, since this is an alligator/water moccasin infested marsh it is wise to pay special attention to ones surrounding. Any how I make it the 15 yards down this path to the waters edge, after a couple casts with a Texas Rigged worm I hear a big splash about 20 or so yards away where the canal makes a hard right so naturally I turn to see what's making the commotion and there is an old man (older than me) throwing what appears to be fish heads and guts into the canal. I'm thinking Dude your crazy this place is full of gators cause I've already eyed one about 25 yards across the from where he is. Normally I continually scan the immediate area where I'm standing but this crazy guy has got my attention. Any how I make another long cast and just about the time I engage my reel for some unknown reason I glance over my right shoulder. You guessed it there about 5 or 6 yards away is a gator of about 7 or 8' in length, needless to say I bolted straight up through the chest high grass on to the road. Once safe on the open road, confident the gator wasn't following I realized I hadn't engaged my reel resulting in a monster back lash. I quickly walked to my truck glancing at the old man who was looking at me like I was crazy, I just tipped my hat thinking idiot you and that gator can have this spot.

At 56 I don't meet the requirements for the position of "eldest" son but I can fish out of the back seat and I do chatter a lot.

If you get a chance spend some time at Rockaway Beach on Lake Taneycomo, one of the most beautiful lakes in America. During the late 60's my oldest brother lived outside of Forsyth, Missouri and worked security in Silver Dollar City when it was only about 3 blocks long.

Truth: My records over 35 yrs prove I have done just a well regardless of moon phase unless I'm fishing tidal water. 2. I establish what I believe to be truths & the bass prove its all lies What is taught as truth Dark colors in dark water and light colors in clear water? A bass itself will blow holes in this theory. 3. All this talk about color, rods, reels, boats, moon phases, can a bass see my line ECT is just interesting information. While even I enjoy debating these subjects the bass could care less if you're in a fiberglass boat or an aluminum boat, or if you use Shimano vs. Garcia, Lighting Rod vs. G. Loomis. 4. So I simply go fishing any time I can, using the techniques I have confidence in, & I let the chips fall where they may. The absolute best time to go fishing is any time you can. If I'm in a tournament or just wanting to catch I use techniques I have confidence in. I don't fret over all the extremes you guys do; I believe this keeps my head clear of BS so I can concrete on what roadwarrior stated what is known about bass behavior, what experience on the water has taught us and our perception of the clues on any given day. And you believe this to be detrimental to the growth of newbies, I sir believe buying into all the hype associated with bass fishing is detrimental to the growth of newbie's.

I have two CastAway rods CSAP68 Sport Series Med. Heavy All Purpose Length: 6' 8 Line Class: 10 to 17 lbs. Lure Weight: 5/16 to ¾ oz. Castaway CSB66 Medium Heavy Bait Cast Length: 6' 6 Line Class: 8 to 14 lbs. Lure Weight: ¼ oz to 5/8 oz. I use the CSB66 for spinner baits and the CSAP68 my son uses as worm rod; they work just fine. The XP 3 Series and XP 3 Series Titanium Series are even better

Since we are picking on KVD, 73 times he finished 20th or worse; do you think he did that by running to several locations? The problem I see is there are some here who when a topic to posted they automaticly run to the extreme left or extreme right. Yes there are exceptions to every rule but that is why in the beginning I said this aint an exact science. But Dudes y'all are over complicating some thing that aint that difficult by worrying about the exceptions. I talk to guys at work, listen to guys here and y'all are worrying about the what if's instead of the what is. I'm not concerned with what KVD does he can take care of himself but I do care about the people here, while some of this is interesting information who cares if Jupiter is in the 3rd house and the moon is on the cusp of Sagittarius.
