My house in Lake Charles, Louisiana is so close to Calcasieu Lake (Big Lake) I can hear the Tug Boat's engines as the travel the ship channel, its 51.78 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. I spent my summers as a teenager in the 60s working on my uncle's charter fishing/shrimp boats. Fishing the Gulf of Mexico taught me how to locate deep water structure while cashing Specks/Reds taught me how to fish skinny water and sight fishing. It is a matter of personal preference, I use hand controlled only and have no problem keeping my hands free to fish. There is an adjustment knob that tightens the shaft so it doesn't more with out applying enough force. Adjust this, point the motor in the direction you want to go and step on the big foot switch on the deck. To me with a foot control you are always off balance because you have one foot in the air and you have to be in a certain position in order to use it. Avid I feel your pain year round, I have extremely bad sinus which is aggravated by all the pollen in the air. This is why I actually like winter more than spring; because during the winter every thing is dead. I take antibiotics, some times they work some times they don't.
