I totally believe the biggest mistake anglers make is they don't know where to look for bigger size bass. I hear all this talk about search baits, may question has always been What are you searching for? if you know where the prime structure is located the search is over. The problem is these guys are searching in all the wrong places, they aimlessly wonder down a shore line in hopes of finding a bass, when the entire time the bass are behind them.

Ok what am I voting on again? You may not catch a 10 lb bass but you can definitely increase the size you catch by simply changing where on any giving lake you fish. You can fish Jigs, Worms, or Swim Baits and still not catch bigger bass because you aint fishing where they're at. Catching big bass is combination of every thing you do, it aint just the bait, the boat, or anything else. It's you! I have a saying that really ticks every one off but it's the truth If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you always got.

Swimming a worm is a killer technique under certain conditions and you were under those conditions. I would have continued swimming that worm until the bass proved to me they didn't want it anymore. One thing to keep in mind when swimming a worm is that the worm has now became a top water bait so hesitate until you feel the bass load up the rod and then set hook.

While I don't use FLW brand lures one of my best worms for bigger size bass is Wal-Mart's Renegade worm. The one I use is 6 long black with silver dust size glitter, a simple hook tail, I call it my do nothing worm.

Wind limits the directions you can throw so boat positioning becomes important, since you're fishing a lake with a soft bottom you might want to consider a Marsh Anchor/Throw Down Pole. These are easily built by using a 4' long - ½ diameter piece of steel with a steel nut welded to one end and the other end is pointed. The rope is tied to the nut and the other end is tied to your boat, once in position simply throw the pole straight down. You are now anchored solidly in position!

Ok I'll do it again I was introduced to the Texas Rig back in 1972 while the equipment has changed the technique is still the same. The Texas Rig was originally designed to fish a plastic worm but today it is used with any type of soft plastic. 1) Make a long cast 2) Strip 3 or 4 arms length of line, this will assure a vertical fall 3) Count the bait down, 15' of water count to 20 to make certain the bait is on the bottom, do it in your head if need be 4) Pause a good 30 seconds after the bait reaches bottom 5) Lower your rod to the 3 o'clock position while reeling slack & feel for anything unusual 6) Move the rod from 3 o'clock to 1 o'clock in three motions 7) Pause 30 seconds & feel for anything unusual 8) Repeat 5, 6, & 7 all the way back to the boat 9) If at any time you feel a noticeable tap, tug, line tighten, heaviness, or see line movement. 10) Without hesitation drop the rod, reel the slack, and set the hook
