I hear a lot of customers talk about the number of bearings in today's reels and how this alone determines if a reel is good/smooth or not. I would like to address this; it's not the number of bearing but the quality of the bearing. Second it's about the location of these bearings, many reel manufactures have added bearings to the reels handle (knob) with many having 2 bearing on each knob. So in reality you can subtract 4 bearings from the total number since they have nothing to do with the operation of the reel.

My suggestion would be a Hummingbird 535 $138.63 at Academy, large screen (5" Diagonal) high definition 320V x 320H pixel resolution. Mount it in your bow, mount the transducer on the transom, this way you can use the depth finder while running and fishing.

To address using what, when, & where; it really depends on personal preferences I prefer Texas Rigged Plastic #1 therefore I carry 2 rods with a Texas Rig, 1 is rigged with a 3/16 oz weight, a 2/0 or 3/0 hook for fishing small worms/craw worms/creatures. The second is rigged with a ¼ oz weight, 3/0 to 5/0 hooks for fishing large worms/craw worms/creatures. Next is 2 rods rigged with Jigs, one is rigged with a light jig-n-craw or spot remover type jig. The second has an Oldham's Lures Trailer Hitch Jig, 3/8 or 1/2 oz Black/Blue, Gene Larew Salty Hawg Craws Now for the when and where I carry these 4 rods rigged this way year round but as to which one I throw first is simple I pick one up and throw it. If I get bit on it I keep throwing it and if I don't get bit I change. It's that simple
