  1. Not yet. I ran out of daylight before I had much time. I was mainly tossing things like Rage Craws and Gambler Crickets. I'm "hoping" to get a chance tomorrow in between the World Cup matches. I've got a good feeling that it could be a very good swim jig type of rod. It's got a very stout backbone. I do plan on pitching some jigs into some of the emergent vegetation thats showing up. Mind you, I'm still really learning how to fish jigs effectively.
  2. I find rage tail baits to be a little more durable than a lot of the other big named plastics. I've never had the tail get torn off of an Anaconda. Like Big O said, you probably need to not whip it on the cast as much. I use a fairly loose reel so thats probably why I don't tear mine. I do tear rage shads right at the tail though. I know that is from whipping it out though. You may want to try using some JJ's or some Megastrike to help with confidence with them though. Personally I find that I catch many more fish when I slather them up in attractants.
  3. Thats basically where I draw the line. My t-rig rod is rated on the low end at 3/8. I know with a 1/4oz weight + lure + hook I'm easily over the 3/8oz mark. If I'm putting on something smaller than a 1/4oz I'll probably go to my spinning outfit unless it's an 1/8oz weight with a fairly heavy lure. You also have to remember to take wind into account.
  4. There is another model flippin/pitchin stick that is a 7'11" H. I really would have liked to try that one out, I just don't really have the need for a broomstick like that for the areas I fish. The balance point is probably a half inch over that knurled grip. Right in between the hook keeper and the top of the reel seat. Feels nice in the hand. It's not quite as sensitive as my Carbonlite, but it is still very sensitive. I was able to feel different bottom types without much of an issue. Mind you, that other rod is my worm/jig rod so I bought it to be super sensitive. This isn't a bottom contact rod per se. You could certainly use it for t-rigged worms without a problem though.
  5. Trust me, try the heat shrink. It's excessively cheap. Senko's last much longer with the heat shrink than the o-rings. I've got one of those Case o-ring tools myself. It collects dust in my tackle bag most of the time. I only use it when I run out of heat shrink tubing.
  6. Will be updating my review throughout the week. Review can be found here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1276219191/0#0
  7. Well, I recieved my chosen rod from Pinnacle earlier today and decided to give it a brief workout since we actually had some clear afternoon weather. This is my initial review on the Pinnacle DHC5-762CAMHFS 7'6" flippin/pitchin stick with telescopic handle. More info to come throughout the week as I'll probably have more time to use it. Pictures: Telescopic sleeve. Line size, power, and action. Butt section has a nice custom look. Hook keeper is very Kistleresque. Nice knurled foregrip detail at the top of the reel seat. Fuji ACS reel seat. Fuji concept guides. Paired up with a 7.1 Pro Qualifier. Very nicely balanced feel to the rod. From my limited experience, the rod is quite comfortable to use. I've never really been a fan of rods with telescopic butts, but this one feels very solid to me. The guides are quite small which is always nice. I spooled up with 40lb braid to work in heavier cover. Very sensitive even though it's telescopic. I was able to detect some very subtle bites. This rod has oodles of backbone. I was able to haul a few fish out of very thick grass with ease. Nothing large, but the salad that came out with them sure made for a small battle. I'm not sure how much it weighs as I don't have a scale around here that can measure in ounces. It's not the lightest rod in the world, but it certainly isn't the heaviest. After two or three hours of using it, I felt that I could hold it an entire day and not be bothered in the least. Hopefully over the weekend I'll be able to give it a good beating. Weather permitting of course. So far though, this seems like a very capable stick. If you've got any questions, please feel free to ask.
  8. List so far Boaters: SouthFLA - possibly has an empty seat Glades - unknown about back seat availability Bocabasser - back seat available Piscicidal - possibly has an empty seat Basschaser - back seat available Non Boaters: SoFlaBassAddict Sqhertz PM's sent to Evrgladesbasser and Never Enough.
  9. I could definitely see them being effective for those toothy critters, they love to strike at the swivels Seems like no matter what you use they strike at the line to leader connection. My father and I have always wondered if the flash from a knot on mono caused strikes. We would always get cut off there. I may buy some to check them out, I hate using single strand wire because of the kinks. At the same time I like using it because you don't get cut off nearly as much. If I use cable like on a trolling lure, I get far fewer strikes from Kings and Wahoo.
  10. Both. Depends on the weight and or size of the lure being used.
  11. I don't know about those swivels, but that Knot 2 Kinky steel wire looks pretty nifty. I could definitely use that for some Kings and Wahoo down here.
  12. O-rings work just fine. Heat shrink tubing works far better though. The worm lasts far longer than with the o-rings. Plus the hook goes into the worm sideways, not running along the length. You tend to get better hookups with the hook positioned like this. If you need a picture, I can take one for you later tonight. This is Wayne P's method. I've tried it and have had some success like this as well. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1273423172/12#4 This is similar to what I do: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1250630239/0#0
  13. So that's two boats with potential for a backseat. Bocabasser and South FLA. Glades said he'd be interested, don't know if he has room on his rig or not. I'll shoot a PM to Evrgladesbasser and see if he's interested. Hopefully he'd be able to drive his boat up there. I could bring my small Jon, but that thing is probably far too small to run around with on Lox. I'd need to find an outboard anyway. Gotta shoot a PM to Piscicidal as well to see if he's at all interested. Don't know if he's a boater or not though. Theres also a new member to the forums who posted in this thread about fishing out at Lox, so that could well be another person. Best case scenario, we could have anywhere from three to five boats. Later tonight I'll start writing down the names of everybody thats interested so we can have a running count of how many people. Like Boca said, right now we need to start tossing out dates.
  14. I'll trade you. Most of the lakes I fish down here drop off to 50+. I'd love to find a shallower lake around me..
  15. Cool video, Catt. Brings back memories of when the zoomies would blow past us when I was on active duty. Awesome sight. Dan: that would be pretty sweet to watch on a big HD screen with some good surround sound. I also just realized how low that third jet in, I think #3, was flying. He couldn't have been more than 50' off the earth.
  16. I may just have to take you up on that next time I'm out on the West Coast. Those rods are really nice, I just have a hard time justifying spending that much on a single stick sometimes.
  17. 14k's in 7 is pretty amazing. Hell of a start for that kid's career. Hopefully he stays healthy and has a nice long career. Baseball needs another real superstar again. Not to mention that the Nationals finally have something to cheer about.
  18. I keep a small assortment of general hand tools (sockets, wrenches, pliers, etc). I also have wire on hand, some good water/fuel proof tape, epoxy, and jb weld. I keep a manual hand pumping bilge on hand as well just in case. I also keep extra hydraulic fluid and oil handy as well. I frequently drive the boat over to the Bahamas, so having all kinds of small stuff stored below the deck is just smart. I've been in the boat and had a breakdown out in the middle of the Gulfstream before, not cool. That is a long ride back to the marina behind a tow boat. Short of me having to rebuild the engine, I believe there is something in my emergency stash that can cover almost anything. But, you never really know.
  19. I don't like them, some people say they don't care. The rubber/silicone inserts take away from the sensitivity of tungsten. If I'm pegging it, I'll use one with or without an insert. Doesn't really matter to me then. Otherwise, insert free for me.
  20. I really wish I still enjoyed baseball. As a kid it was great, then they did the whole strike thing and I just lost it. I'll watch a game every now and then, but eh it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Sure hard to ignore all the hype about this kid though, it's been all over the sports radio down here.
  21. David loves those Dobyns. I'd buy myself some if I wanted to make the jump to the upper echelon gear. Those Dobyns rods are beautiful.
  22. Not me by any stretch. But it makes me laugh...
  23. Required? No, of course not. But if you're planning to crank deep for long periods of time, I'd use the Curado 5.1....with the 7' MH Kistler x2 You can use the 6.4, but you'll be working a lot harder then you need to. Stick the 5.1 on there. The MH will be the better choice as well.
