  1. Well I posted about the first tournament on how I got second by 9 one hundredths of an ounce which was a bummer but I did come back to redeem myself. We had about 10 boats this time a perty descent crowd of highschool boys. When I started the day out I knew that it was going to be a slow day. The low pressure system was moving out and the BP was rising so I knew I was going to have to slow down. We ran across the lake up a bayou called larto bayou where there are a few slews and creeks with camps around them. It was a long run but it was worth it. I had prefished tuesday evening and I knew there were fish here but we caught our best fish on the other end of the lake off of isolated cypress trees. With the two hours that we had to fish tuesday evening we pulled out with four weigh fish that I would be willing to say was a 10 pound sack easy. But tournament day was a different story. My first place to hit was the slew around the camps. We did get our five weigh fish here the biggest one weighing about 2.5 I hooked one about 3.5 but lost him right at the boat. > But I kept my hopes up and kept on fishing. The bite in the slew began to dwindle and I figured it was time to hit our trees so we headed back across the lake. We were definately fishing for that big fish bite but it never came. We only caught one weigh fish which was about 2 pounds even. I was very worried about the weigh in. When I arrived everyone else had there heads down and didn't seem to look very assured. So we scrounged our fish up and weighed them in at a meezly 8.75 lb sack which I thought was terrible compared to what we had caught that tuesday before but ended up taking first and big bass. I was surprised to win but I knew I had done well after there were some grown men (which are very well respected fisherman in our area) that only came to the weigh in with one or two small dinks . I was proud and ended up winning 180 dollars for first and 40 for big bass. Me and my fishing partner split it up each having 110. I was happy and now I'm phsyced for the next one
  2. check out this video it is crazy. It should scare some people into being careful while driving their boats
  3. its the only picture I've got. Ima look online and see if I can find some more
  4. Sorry for the bad picture and I wanted to make this post along time ago but I took the picture with my cell phone and I didn't have a computer USB chip and port to do so. I wish I actually caught it but I that is me holding it and I'm glad I got the opportunity to hold one that size. They totally look crazy when they get this big. The story is my girlfriend's cousin Brent caught it on local Kincaid lake and the topic of BrokeJu got me thinking about posting this picture because like his, this fish is a little over 13 pounds. It set the lake record and I'm sure it's one of the biggest in state but I'm not sure where it stands. When they called my girlfriend on her cell phone and told her the news I was flipping out. I was like "where are they, tellem we're on our way." Well he caught the fish off the bank at a spillway and the fish had a 1/2 pound crappie in his mouth. Caught it on a spinnerbait. Anyway, here is the picture

  6. We had our first highschool tournament this weekend on a local river and I came in second with 9.27 lbs and first place came in with 9.36 lbs. It was very close and I'm still happy that I got second but I'm not even the least satisfied. My fishing partner had one fish on his line about 2 1/2 lbs, I told him to wait and let me get the net but he thought he could swing it in on his rod but it came off as he picked up on it. That was his mistake.....my mistake may be worse. I loaded my boat on the trailor and drove it to the weigh in. Everyone was rushing me to weigh my fish in so i through them into the weigh bag without any water in it which could have changed the outcome of the tournament beens how there was only a difference of 9 one hundredths of an ounce. Every tournament has been a learning experience for me so far and I won't make that mistake again.
  7. Ok.... My dad's been fishing for some 40 years now and he has always used a hand controlled trolling motor with slap handle and a bigfoot. Well... recently he bought a 18 foot skeeter from another guy that was in great condition and he loved it but couldn't use the foot control. I've been fishing with many other people and I've used foot control and hand control. I guess I'm like my dad when it comes to preference but I don't mind a foot control. He said it's impossible to fish with 1 foot flat and one up, on the control. Needless to say... we got a new hand control Minnkota and I think he's gonna be alot happier. We take it out in the morning for a test run. So my question is.... What do you guys prefer foot control or hand control? and also Minnkota or Motorguide?
  8. I know lol... But louisiana does have reputation of eating just about anything. If we don't know what it is then we'll just shoot it, clean it, and eat it. lol
  9. I'd try a zoom superfluke watermelon red weightless, then a stanley ribbit, spro frog, and if those don't work, I'd try a 6" zoom lizard (watermelon purple) tie it on weightless and pop it over the grass, let it fall into open holes in the grass, or let it fall slowly fishing the edge of the grass.
  10. Me and my buddy were out on the water the other day ( the day I caught the fish in my avatar pic). We got on the lake at daybreak and fished for about and hour or so when and huge black cloud appeared. We had caught two or three but nothing great. We left our spot and got underneath someone's houseboat nearby until the rain passed through which was like an hour and a half later. When we went back to our spot, after the shower, we probably caught 20 or so bass. It was a good day.
  11. Awsome fish! Aint there some big a$$ crocodiles in lake Placid? I'd be careful.... lol
  12. Yea we call them Grinnal down here in Louisiana. I caught one with a friend one time and started to throw it back when he made me keep it. We brought it to his grandma who cooked it into like so patties. Tasted great! Alot like Gar balls.
  13. Woohoo go hackney and LSU!
  14. Sunny days- white and chartreuse cloudy days- black and blue
  15. Thnx bob... I wasn't really sure what the official name of what I'm looking to do really is but I think you nailed it on the head. I will check out the link and see how much information I can learn. And yes, it is most definately a burning passion!
  16. I'm looking for any information on freshwater marine biology. I will soon be graduating highschool and moving onto college and was wondering if anyone could tell me a little about this career... if there are any biologists on the site?? I need a little insight on everything I will be doing and anual earnings and things of that nature. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thnx, Dalton
  17. lol I'm from louisiana and I can understand where you're coming from... bug spray helps but never 100% effective, and smoking is bad... The only thing that I know is when your catching alot of fish you don't tend to notice them as much. Citronella candles and burning citronella oil both work well but idk about putting them in your boat... have you tried a thermocell??? they work really well around here for mosquitos and knats when i'm squirrel hunting and deer hunting. I've never tried it while fishing but i imagine it would work. Look up thermocell on google and you'll see what I'm talkin about. They sale them at any walmart and most sporting good stores. Try it it may work.
  18. IMO, it's a learned thing that takes time to master and get better at... on the other hand I do think that some people are born with better talents than others, not to say someone that was not born with the talent cant become as good as them with plenty of practice. Some people are born with the ability to sing, but anyone can become better at singing with the more practice that they have.
  19. The pictures aren't really defined but I'm going to say that the silver fish is what we call a (goo fish) or gaspergou and the other fish is what looks to me like a smallmouth or maybe a rock bass. this is what ppl call a gaspergou around here.
  20. Let's get some cajun bass mojo on that bracelet... I'm in send it to me as well.
  21. We have a highschool team here where I am from. When we started off we had a big open tournament for any fisherman that wanted to fish it and took a percentage of the money to keep in the funds for the club and then had enough for the payout. The main thing is getting enough local fisherman to join to raise some serious money.
  22. Well in my area it has been really dry latley and and hot as hell itself and the fish hadnt been biting in the heat but after a rain they go to biting because the rain puts oxygen back into the water just like a ariator in someone's livewell. This is the main reason I believe fish may bite better after a shower or rain.
  23. btw i failed to mention that Zach is ranking third in the nation right now.
  24. Yea I'm in highschool right now, I'll be a junior this year but plan to go to norhwestern to fish tournaments also.... If you look in the college bass standings Zach Gagnard went to school with me.. He graduated last year and I fished against him my freshmen year in our highschool bass club.... I've always come in second and third behind him and his partner wich only graduated this year... his name is Chance Wilkinson and is far better than Zach is IMO... I've fished with both but they both had two and three years of experience over me... I plan on seeing Chance in the top of the leader boards this next year... Now it's my time to win these lil highschool tournaments and head to the top... so maybe I'll be seein you in a couple years.. lol
  25. What lake are you on? I was just recently in OK with a friend of mine and the bass were doing the same thing. All we could do was fish from the shore. We were on lake Longmire... wby?
