That's a mean thing to say. We're all here from one reason, we love fishing and want to share our advice. I would agree with everyone get a used boat that will fit your needs and save the rest or pay for your own books. Common having your Grandma pay for part of your education? i think youve missed my point. taking federa tax $$$'s to pay for something you clearly have the money to pay for is IMO wrong. but, maybe im wrong. You can use up to 30 lb. braid as long as you set your drag correctly.

Since you haven't been fishing since you were 12 , get your self a Berkley Lightn Rod (35.00) and a Shimano Sahara spinning reel(59.00) and see if you are going to enjoy bass fishing. If you do like it you have got a pretty good starter outfit and if you don't like it then you don't have a lot invested.

Braid from 10 to 50 lb. It lasts for years , saves you money over the long haul. JMHO. So please no debates wanted.

Like RW said , it's usually the person , not the reel. Just buy a quality reel and have him keep practising.
