I've been mulling over the idea of getting a St. Croix Avid AS63MXF spinning rod to throw 1/8 to 1/4 oz. spinner baits . Any pro's or con's about this idea would be greatly appreciated.

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are the plastics still plyable and soft ? If so they are good to go. I would change the hooks on the hard baits though. Have those reels cleaned and lubed. Check the eyes on the rods. Needless to say the line will have to be replaced.

Don't rule out 1/8 oz. spinner baits, I've caught many large bass on them.

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get rid of the mono , too much stretch for what you are trying to do. You might try the floracarbon but with a baitcaster use at least a 12 lb. line. A lot of guys use braid wth a fluorcarbon leader.
