This was standard practise before they started making L.H. reels. A lot of the fella's still do this. Nothing unusual.

If you are looking for a lot of line capacity , get the 4000 model if not go with the 2000 model. I have the quick fire reels and they do not have the instant anti-reverse like most of your normal reels do . Needless to say I don't use them any more.

Too expensive for my taste.

You want your cranks bouncing off objects or digging off the bottom.

I change out all my hooks to larger sizes on all my traps.

In my humble opinion you have to have tension on the fish at all times when fighting a fish. I've lost a lot of fish by allowing slack in my line. Live and learn.

How are you presenting your bait to the fish ? I try to use a line that blends in with the water.

6'6' med. power/moderate action for cranks. 6''6" hvy.power/fast action for thick cover for plastics.
