  1. Do they flex similar to wood when loading the boat on the trailer? My old and new wood one flex a lot. Did you carpet the synthetic wood ?
  2. I use a 18-24" fluorocarbon leader. I started this about 3 months ago, I fish mostly in a real rocky river.
  3. I looked at the synthetic Deck stuff at Lowe's. I was not sure if the synthetic Deck stuff might be more likely break that wood. I went with 2x6 wood.
  4. I come from the "if you feel something odd, set the hook", of course I have set the hook on a large number of stumps/limbs/rocks/hubcaps (see the picture) and garbage bags. I have also cast back on a missed "tap" and caught a fish. Of course bream/bluegill/warmouth/sunfish will drive you crazy. Especially when more than 1 is hitting the plastic. This works for me and may not work for others.

X2 I put trailer hooks on all Buzz/Spinners/Chatter Baits. Most caught fish are on the trailer and ofter both hooks. Rarely lose a fish on Buzz/Spinners/Chatter Baits. Exception, Chain Pickerel often totally miss topwater Buzz/Pop-r/Jitterbug/other baits.
  6. I used the non-arsenic Treated Wood. Replaced my 4 years ago, no problems yet. I have not see Marine Grade wood in years and that was 5x10 plywood without voids.
  7. To me, Dinks are small, under 12", bass (LM, SM, Spots, Red Eye, other).
  8. Gar (spinners/crank baits) Bowfin (spinners/crank baits/plastics) Stripped Bass (topwater/crank baits) Hybrids (topwater/crank baits) White Bass (topwater/crank baits) Bluegill/Warmouth (crank baits/plastics) Crappie (spinners/crank baits) Chain Pickerel (spinners/topwater) Channel Cat (spinners/crank baits) Carp (snagged on crank baits) Turtle (crank baits/plastics)
  9. I would drain the gas tank, then fill it with new gas with Stabil. Drain an fill the bottom end with new oil. Walmart has a small had pump for this. Check the spark plugs and change if necessary. Then put a clean /new garbage can (plastic or metal) with enough water to cover the water inlets and let the motor run for a while. Make sure the motor is spitting water. Maybe stop it for a while and then start it again. I would do this several times.
  10. We are safe in Georgia, I use big/large Bream for flatheads on the Flint. HOOK AND LINE There is no restriction on the number of poles and lines to fish for game fish except: fishing for trout - one pole; fishing on Public Fishing Areas - two poles; and sport shad fishing - two poles. Anglers using more than two poles and lines to fish for shad must abide by commercial shad regulations. Landing nets may be used to land fish legally caught. Game fish may be used as live bait (where live bait is legal) if they are taken legally and you do not exceed daily creel and possession limits.
  11. Anyone know why boats steer from the right side or center and cars/trucks steer from the left side?
  12. If you are very careful, you can open split rings with a knife blade. I have better luck than with some split ring pliers. For better results, leave the split ring on the lure.
  13. My problem with the Jitterbug's rear hook fouling with the front hooks maybe due to fishing a lot of rock cliffs, a rock face 3 to 20+ feet off the water. The lure often hit the rock cliff.
  14. It may be the way I cast, but I rarely have the problem of a Jitterbug hooks tangle in the line. I use 20 or 30 LB. PP with a 24" Floro leader. I do have a problem with the Jitterbug's rear hook fouling with the front hooks.
  15. I found this in the Alabama regulations: Use of Minnows for Bait in State-Owned Public Fishing Lakes Regulated - Live minnows used for bait in any state public fishing lake shall be limited to the following species: Goldfish minnows, commonly called "Indiana" minnows; golden shiners, commonly called "Shiners," and fathead minnows, commonly called "Toughies." You may want to call you local DNR.
  16. I still catch fish on Rattle Traps, Lazy Ike, Hula Poppers, and Jitterbug's, along with spinners, Pop R's and others. These lures that have been around for a long time for a reason. I fish on a river that has 3 tournaments a week in the summer, a lot of pressure for a small river.
  17. The red PP bleeds real bad. Hands and cork grip will turn red, quick. After 4 or 5 outings, the bleeding decreases.

That' s a shame, the front pond aboard the base is, and has been for 40 years, stocked yearly with Channel Cat. Every year or 2 the front pond is drained and the fish are netted and placed in the back pond/swamp. You also have some fishermen that put large cats and bass in there from other lakes. Some people get a big surprise when the catch a 25 LP flathead there. The back ponds has always had large bass, bream, cats, gar, and huge bowfin. From the main gate it's no more than 15 minutes to 3 different boat ramps on the lake and river, less time from the back gate. I was stationed at MCLB, Albany 68-70, 71-73, 76-78, and 84-88, then I retired and stayed here.
  19. I have 2 SX's that have 20 LB, Power Pro with (18") flouro leaders.
  20. Old school, South Georgia. In the early to mid 70's, all I fished was 4-6 inch shiners in farm ponds, or small lakes with bank access. This was pre-Circle Hooks. Hook the shiner through the lips (3-5/0), use a bobber that will stay up whebn the shiner is active, use split shot 1 foot from the hook to keep the shiner down. When the bobber starts moving, get ready, reel in the excess line, when the boober is gone and you feel the fish, set the hook. In the spring you can catch some monsters. If memory serves, with J hooks, the was about a 50 % hook up. Cat fishing (now) with bream as bait, with 8/0 Circle hooks, I get about 80 % hook ups with flatheads/blues and maybe 40 % on gar.
  21. I have good results from the War Eagle Spot Remover. Around my area they are/were 4.95 at Walmart.
  22. The prime problem is that where you get hungup, sticks, trees, rocks, grass, Lilly pads, that is where the fish are. If you fish from a boat, it is easier to retrieve the lure, but not a guarantee.
  23. This what my friend said: The boat past me by 10 feet about 4:30 Saturday heading back into HOPE SPRING marina, which is where I launch . I was fishing the mouth, which is about ¾ of a mile from the landing. The two guys in the jon boat just smiled[ch61514] The guy sitting in the bass boat was sitting in the middle seat, just taking in the ride..he looked so sad!
  24. Sam, I did not say I saw him, I said "I called a friend of mine today, who lives in the Quantico Va. area, it was not his boat. He did say that he saw a bass boat, without a motor, being towed in by a jon boat. The guy in the bass boat did not look happy. My friend went fishing, he did not follow them to ask questions. " I just sent him an e-mail (work address) asking the following: Bernie, Where did you see (a general location or a close boat ramp) the boat, sans a motor being towed by a jon boat? Inquiring minds want to know (Bass Resources). Chuck I will post the answer. I fished a tournament (holed piston, broke piston ring) on the trolling motor. Caught some fish, but no money.
  25. I called a friend of mine today, who lives in the Quantico Va. area, it was not his boat. He did say that he saw a bass boat, without a motor, being towed in by a jon boat. The guy in the bass boat did not look happy. My friend went fishing, he did not follow them to ask questions.
