New PB for me!
I caught my new PB Largemouth today at my friend's pond near my house. I caught what I believe was the same fish last year, but it was well after the spawn and 2 pounds lighter. She was already staging for the spawn. I spotted her and another female almost the same size hanging out next to a log under a weeping willow. I had a good bit of trouble last year getting big females to bite when sight fishing. I thought a lot about what my go to bait would be over the winter and it seems to be a winner. I'm using a 4" Black Neon Beaver on a 1/8 oz. standup jighead. It was caught using a Falcon Cara 6'7" "Weightless Worm" rod and a Shimano Curado 201DHSV reel with 50 lb. Fireline Braid. Here she is. Just over 8 lbs.

Very nice!! It's great to see young people catch nice fish. Their eyes say it all.

Rod Comparisons
For the baitcaster I'd go with the Abu Vendetta 7'3" HXF. For the spinning I'd go with the Shimano Compre 6'8" MXF.

Vendetta Rods
I'll give it a shot. To start with, most people prefer a different rod for shallow cranking and deep cranking. The one used for deep cranking is usually a little stronger, but with a slower action. I think the VTC70-5 would be great for shallow/lipless cranks with it's Moderate Fast action. I would get the VTC73-6 for deep cranks since it's a MH with a Moderate action. For frogs/heavy jigs I would get either the VTC73-7 or the VTC76-7. For lighter jigs and weighted plastics I would get either the VTC70-6 or the VTC69-6. The VTC76-6 seems like a swimbait rod...it's rated all the way to 3 oz's. Were you wanting to get 3 casting rods or do you want a spinning on in the mix? A little more info would be great.

Falcon BuCoo Rods v. Abu Garcia Vendetta Rods
Do a quick search...you'll find a good bit of info. We've discussed these rods a bit in the last few weeks. They are both great lines of rods for the price. Can't really go wrong either way.

florocarbon lines
Most of the people I know that use FC use Trilene 100%. I haven't used FC yet, but I'll be buying some Trilene 100% tomorrow for a reel I just bought.

wacky rig set up
I agree with the gammie octopus hook. On any good bite, to where the fish just doesn't grab onto the senko, I've had good hook sets. All basically in the corner of the mouth, or the roof of the mouth. With these hooks, I've yet to really get a deep down the throat hook set which allows me to get the hook out quickly and return the fish to his buddies so others can catch them. Another vote here for the Gamakatsu Octopus hooks. I've had very good success with them when wacky-rigging.

Need Suggestions Please
Just as a heads up...I went to Gander Mountain today and got a Shimano Saros 2500 reel for $99.99. It's the step above the Symetre and usually sells for at least $129.99 at most places. I haven't fished with it yet, but it seems like an amazing reel. You may want to go check it out.
