  1. every time i get a chance to get out and make a few casts, whether i catch something or not, makes it a good season for me!! i'll be heading back to submarine duty in october and i'm trying to fish as much as possible right now. just being able to go and experience nature and all that goes with it is enough for me, all the bass i catch are just the feather in the cap!! my largest bass so far, since january, has been a little over 4lbs.
  2. NICE! it seems the fishing is really good right now!
  3. when i was 13 or 14, my little brother and i were fishing in a little jon boat in a farm pond and we were out in the middle of the pond when something bumped my shoulder. i turned around swinging and took out a random limb sticking out of the water. he still laughs at me about that one. a couple years ago, i took his boat out and didn't crank the motor first to make sure it would run. got the boat launched and it wouldn't start so i ended up drifting 4 hours down the river until my buddy could rescue me in his pontoon boat, lol. good times.
  4. I saw they were making them again and picked up a couple bags at BPS. As soon as I opened one of the bags, the memories started flowing. My grandpa used them and I remember playing in his tackle boxes and pulling out all of his worms and playing with them. So anyway, I have the 8" in purple (grape) and black (blackberry), I have them rigged with a 5/0 Gamakatsu superline hook, 3/16oz screw in black sinker on 20lb Power Pro line. I have been tearing up the bass in the 2-4lb range!! These things ROCK!! Does anyone else fish them?
  5. flukes are my nemesis. i hate those d***n things!!! i have a ton of them and i've had success on them, but grrrrrr!!! too much line twist, even with a swivel. maybe i'm hooking them wrong?? i usually use a 3/0 hook sometimes a 4/0. i've used 10lb mono, 12lb fluoro and 20lb braid. all on spinning gear, shimano symetre on a 7'0" bps medium action extreme rod. as much as i hate them, i'll keep using them because they work. whoa is me....
  6. i throw weightless worms and trick worms on a bps bionic plus with 12lb fluoro and 3/0 hook. you just have to properly adjust the reel.
  7. try a weightless worm or senko, throw it where they jumped and just let it sink and sit. it works for me most of the time. i let it sit for about 30 seconds, then twitch it a couple times and reel it back.
  8. my uncle has pics of me when i was 2 and i caught an 8lb mud fish on a snoopy rod and a casting plug. i've been fishing ever since. i think it was just bred into me. i've always been a fisherman, always will be.
  9. i love fishing during my lunch breaks!! congrats on the pigs bro!!
  10. i wouldn't fish it slow. run and gun, flipping and pitching into every hole, crevice, nook and cranny you see. hit the hole, shake it, pull it out and find another hole if nothing hits.
  11. this high pressure has been killing me too. hopefully i'll get a chance to go friday before that front moves in. as a navy recruiter there's not much time to do anything. >
  12. Awesome outing, nice fish!! Funny thing is, I've never used a net to land anything, ever!!
  13. anything black. rig according to conditions and cover.
  14. this season opener stuff is new to me!! good luck guys and you might want to think about moving south!!
  15. go big or go home!! lol seriously, try some bigger worms, jigs, spinnerbaits. something with a larger profile. your catch numbers will go down, but you might get that bigger catch you are looking for.
  16. I feel your pain on the jig fishing. I went out last Sunday and threw a jig for about 4 hours straight, I was so determined to get a fish. I caught 3 with the biggest one around 3lbs. I was proud of my progess and how tired my arm was afterwards, lol. Of course I put the jig down and catch 10 more on a senko in 30 mins.
  17. Nice boat and fish!! If you need a fishing partner let me know!!
  18. i use braided line with plastics like the fat ika, senkos, etc. there's no stretch and no matter how i hook the plastic the hook is going to drive through. usually it just takes a flick on the wrist. my other rods have fluoro. and mono.
  19. if you can reach the deep side of that muck, toss a weightless senko, a t-rigged crawfish type bait or a brush hog type bait on a shaky head out there and let it sit, twitching it every so often. something will nail it.
  20. i typically count to 3 before setting the hook with everything i got. and i use braid for no-stretch factor. great job on the catch, they will only get bigger from here!
  21. great more red mouths!! i spent all day checking out the fish i caught to see if they had red mouths!! one did, but not in the teeth area, more around the inside.
  22. you want to leave some slack especially with braided line. then all you have to do is snap your wrist and it will drive the hook through the plastic. whereas if you reel in all of the slack you'll just pull the worm out of the fish's mouth. there are times when you reel in all of the slack, such as carolina rigging where you want to maintain tension as much as possible because your lure is behind a heavy weight. for those that doubt it, give it a try, your hookups will increase tenfold.
  23. i put them on spot remover hooks and pitch them in the grass and around laydowns.
  24. i learned that log you think you are going to tie up to isn't a log and that other piece of timber you want to tie up to has a hornet's nest in it. oh and that isn't a piece of eel grass floating by your boat. snakes are attracted to light at night. buzzbaits and frogs are amazing at night!
  25. i think you guys just have a fish mouth fetish!! ;D i've never really paid that much attention. i do recall seeing some mouths redder than others, but never put that much thought into it. i was too busy focusing on not getting hooked or going over what i did to catch it. looks like i'll be googling this for while, thanks guys! lol
