  1. lol, i'm actually a Georgian transplanted to Florida. it's nice to be here though! thanks for the welcome! where is polk county?
  2. i have lived in boynton for a year now and i have all but given up on canal fishing. i've caught maybe 4 bass out of the canals. i did hang a nice one on an xrap a couple weeks ago on boca rio. no luck on any plastics at all though. if you figure anything out, i'd like to know, lol!! good luck!
  3. i think you should just donate it to my "i need a boat foundation"
  4. i live right down the road from there in Marina Village. i've fished there once and yeah, it was crowded. i'm not much of a saltwater kind of guy, but i do it every now and then. i tried surf fishing near there too and got skunked.
  5. do you fish boynton inlet?
  6. hey stren how is the fishing in ft. pierce?? i travel up there occasionally and need a good spot to try out next time i'm up there.
  7. i had finally caught a nice peacock bass, got her on the bank and went to dislodge the hook when she jumped and sent the lure from her mouth into my hand, all the other hooks were not too deep, just that one. i didn't have any cutters with me so i spent 2 hours at an emergency room. the shot they gave me to numb it hurt worse than getting the hook in!
  8. my past 2 sub tours have been on boomers, both times on the Tennessee (Blue). i'm ready to get back on a boat!! i can't believe i miss it. i tried flipping a black/blue jig today actually and i ended up losing it, the fish was the world record, i swear!! 95% of the time i'm flipping a weightless trick worm or senko. i do ok. i don't get the giant fish, but i get numbers and that makes it fun!
  9. i just can't stop!!! i've tried and i've tried. my wife is going to kill me!! i HAD to get some shaky heads, and oh i needed worms for the shaky heads (as if the 5000 ones i have won't do), oh yeah, i need some new senkos, wait, what about the xrap i lost last week, i need to replace that. i'll get 2 xraps in case i lose one. i can't drive by BPS without throwing $50 at it. now i need a new rod, how can i justify that with the wife?
  10. from what i remember, there is one freshwater pond on jekyll. dunno if there is access to it or not. saltwater is your best bet. there is a pier on the northwest side of the island for fishing.
  11. i am a Yeoman Chief Petty Officer!! i'm a submariner, also!! i'm not too worried about gators, i've fished around them my whole life, but i'm not one to tempt fate. i don't have the best of luck, lol.
  12. the only skin problem i have is half my thumb is missing from all the bass i've been catching!!! can anyone recommend some help for that?
  13. awesome!! and you did it on YOUR jig, that's got to make it feel even sweeter!!
  14. i have a good friend that lives there and we just went around hitting up ponds in apartment complexes. jax is pretty limited on freshwater it seems.
  15. i'm not going to be doing too much wading down here in south florida. the gators are enough, now we have to worry about pythons! i do some flipping and pitching when i get the chance from the bank, i did it today with a shaky head and it was awesome. but i feel it is completely different than flipping and pitching from a boat, from the bank you are limited on angles and presentation, in a boat you are above the water a lot more than you are from the bank makes it hard to get good distance sometimes. anyways, thanks for the responses!!
  16. the following is from the Georgia - "Discover the Satilla River" website. Largemouth Bass - Though not known for its bass population, largemouth are present in sufficient numbers in the Satilla. Expect most catches in the 10 to 12-inch range, but the occassional lunker is lurking. Technique - Typical bass lures work, but it's hard to beat a shallow-diving minnow plug during the spring.
  17. I grew up near the Satilla River in Hazlehurst, Georgia. The river (if you want to call it that) fluctuates tremendously throughout the year, I've seen it overflowing bridges and low enough to jump across. There are little lakes or holes that the river floods occasionally, maybe that's where it was caught, but I can't see this fish coming from the main river. I'll be up that way in a couple weeks, might have to throw a line in!!
  18. Anyone fished there before? I went today and pitched a shaky head zoom worm around some laydowns and caught 5. One dink and the rest were nice with the biggest being 2-2.5lbs. I was having a blast until I broke my rod (stupidity on my part).
  19. i got an 8.5lb blue cat on a pop'r 2 years ago. that was the hardest fighting fish i've ever caught, fought it for nearly 20 min, lol.
  20. i would love to get back up there and fish. i fished there 2 years ago and managed a couple fish. it was extremely windy and i had a guy with me who had never done much bass fishing. between managing the boat and him, it was tough fishing. all i need is a boat!!
  21. snook, i checked out that canal at the end of boca rio. quite a drop down to it though, lol. and there are the biggest iguanas i have ever seen there. i saw the 4 peas right there where the canals intersect. thanks speed worm, i'll do that.
  22. Has anyone had any success doing this? I just recently started trying this and have had moderate success with the zoom ultra vibe craws and flipping senkos.
  23. Yeah, South County. You have to fish the Yamato side of the park, not the Glades side. Only small ones so far on the Glades side. I've only caught a handful of dinks at the Yamato side, so far they are averaging 1.5 -2lbs. I caught nearly 30 nice bass over two days. I'm going to have to give the little hole a break now, it's only maybe an acre big. I saw 4 peacocks at Boca Rio the other day, I did hang a nice bass on the Xrap I was fishing, it shook off though. Here is a pic of one of the bass I caught at South County.
  24. Welcome Aboard! As we say in the Navy!
  25. I've actually been reading the website for the past 3 or 4 years!! Just now joining the forums though. I've learned a lot, I love all the articles!! Looking forward to going through all these forums and hopefully picking up some new tips and techniques.
