KVD line and lure on braided line
my mistake ..brainfart...after thinking about it i forgot that the line gets spooled up over the spoolleft to right and so on,so yea the pattern woulld come out as camo (black green black green) but it will just look 1/2 n 1/2 on the spool.my mistake dude lol. ;D

starting to get serious what to get??
x2 on the pflueger.you can also check out the pflueger president spinning reels, those are great (step above the trion) and can be found for a decent price ($50).and i wouldnt worry about the line cause combos from sporting good stores dont come with line,so your going to have to buy some line and spool it up yourself.6-8lb trilene will do you fine either that or grab some p-line cxx...great line, but a little costly.

One bait, soo many options.
last year i had some luck with the 8",i was hooking them and rigging them so it swam on its side, like a dying shad flapping on its side.havent busted them out this season yet.

Backplay
would you want backplay(reverse backplay) in your car or truck transmission when your driving down the road??its bad cause its not supposed to be there in geared equipment.gears are ment to have a tight tolerance and no backplay.just my .02

Advice on a cheap casting combo
usually the difference is the handles(grips),some casting sticks have a "pistol" style cork grip, its shorter and ment for one handed casts, trigger sticks usually have your traditional long two hand cork handle that most everyone uses.

KVD line and lure on braided line
imo half a spool doesnt constitute as camo, you just have a half black half green spool, imo camo is a pattern/mix of color alternating i.e green black green black etc.,not half.just my .02,not to mention if you arnt casting far then your only going to get half of the color out in the water, either the green or black side depending on what half you colored.

KVD line and lure on braided line
lol What's the best way to do this? take a sharpie(one with the wide fat tip) get a razor and cut a slit down the middle of the tip of the marker then just run your line through the slit...waalaa...camo line,it also works good for the bright lines for sight fishing to tone down that super bright yellow or pink.and NO the smell of the marker wont matter.it wears off after a few casts.

Revo STX or Curado E7?
Yeah, because everyone needs 24 lbs. of drag. : Go ahead and crank that thing down and see how long your rod lasts. Garcia has succeeded in making people think that they need 24 lbs. of drag or that more drag is better. I wonder how anyone ever lived without having 24 lbs. of drag. dont you know burley...abu puts that on there for when your hook snags into one of them sunken tires filled with mudd and everything else thats on the bottom, thats all.

How to replace the skirt on a spinnerbait, buzzbait, or jig?
x2 with the wacky tool,a bic pen taken apart will also work good.if your in a pinch i just stretch the new skirts open with my needlenose and slip it over the hooks.

Other Options?
try these http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_103693_151004005_151000000_151004000_151-4-5?ordProd=Y&CMID=TOP_selectitems#itemDetail great bait, might be used for redfish/saltwater but we recently went on a great lakes trip, same situation like you with the weeds,we used these and the fish wouldnt stop nailing these, and they usualy come back clean and weed free.we also would take the swimmer off and put frogs on the hook..awesome.

Airrus Rods ??
i have a airrus co matrix in a 7mh that i use for an all around setup, imo the action is perfect and the rods themselves are light,i have swapped mine out with a few different reels and it seems to balance well with no matter what you put on it.i dont use it alot or as much as i should nor have i ever sunk into a big fish with it yet,but it has handled ALOT of 5-6# smallies and lm for me over time.one great thing about airrus is they have an excellet warranty,no sending in money to fix your rod,its broken they fix it free.

Revo STX or Curado E7?
Well I'm glad yours is better than the two that I have. They both have play. Both reels are very nice but I voted for the STX. I've had my STX for 2 years now and it is still smoother than the E5 that I have only been using since March. I got an E7 in May and I like it but not as much as the STX. there shouldnt be backplay..dont see how with the antireverse pawls those thing should be cathing the ratchet and dead locking that thing

A nice little gift, I guess
i had one that i used for ice fishing until it got kicked into a ice hole, its a nice little reel for the money.def. something to be used, but i dunno that instant fisherman is a tough gift to beat, pretty sweet there you lucky fella you lol...if anything use it for a dropshot rig,eh it beats a mushy card with dogs and cats on it

badonk-a-donk
i opened this thinking we would find and see some pics of big ol' bootys...junk in the trunk...my mistake ;D

Advice on a cheap casting combo
not to bash your equipment but its probably cause its a junky reel,id would say its because the sideplate that you removed is plastic, eitther that or really really cheap graphite, and by you tightning all the screws down it probably flexed the sideplate and caused it to grind the gears or make the bearings stiff beacuse it was flexing and out of line, either that or when you opened it up and put it back together some of the gears wherent lined up properly.and on a cheap reel if you droped it in the water id leave it open for a day or so let it fully dry out then clean it (cause cheap reels dont use high quality bearings and things can start to rust and freeze up) then re grease and lube it up.also a trick for drying out reels besides a hairdryer is to throw some uncooked rice in there, the rice will soak up all mositure then simply dump it out wipe everything clean then relube,a good lube is the ardent reel butter stuff.

Advice on a cheap casting combo
x2...plus bps seems is always having sales on combos,my first bc that i learned on was a bps extreme, did me well back then and is still going strong today.but if you have a bps or cabelas near you id go check out what housebrand combos they have and tell the guys what type of fishing you do (senko, crankbait, jigs whatever) and what your willing to spend and they can point you in the right direction and set you up with something thats right for you.avoid walmart, bps will give you more helpful input and wil backup there product if something should go wrong later on down the road.if your just fishing banks then a shorter rod is ok a longer rod will get your bait more out there in the pond though (shorter rod= more accuracy, longer rod=more distance).and for an all around reel like your asking for id go with a med. speed reel like a 6.4 i wouldt go for a 7.1 fast one if your going to be using it for everything under the sun.and for a rod..if your targeting all those species id get a 6'6" or 6'10" mh rod, wont be the best for bluegill but for them big stripers, cats and carp it will be great.

Johnson Silver Minnow
nuttin like making you own baits...fun... solder isnt really strong nor ment for fishing and heavy loads or pressure though, tends to fail alot,i have made some with tack welds years back, still going strong today in my kids tackle box.

Revo STX or Curado E7?
just being honest... but make the baitmonkey happy and just go buy both.but aside from what dink said ive never had a problem with the sx or stx.the 1 thing i like about the curado is the back up anti reverse pawls.

I'm all kinds of backwards
x2 haha

Wake Jr
regardless of casting ability, a backlash is bound to happen once in a while. From what I understand, that is one of the reasons that MOST swimbait guys don't use braid. i hear ya,wasnt arguing just saying.i mean if i was getting birdnests often i sure as heck wouldnt be tossing out $80 lures lol,if i did myass would be diving in after that thing. ;D

shadalicious rigging?
x2 on what was said.i also will slit the belly on my paddletails so the hook has more play and room to move also gives the bait a faster action.and i will also depending on the size of swimer im throwing, ill make a stinger hook out of heavy fluro and place a small/med size treble hook near the back,it helps me on those short strikes in the rear.i have also used double frog hooks on plastic swimers i just bend them in a little closer and feed the eye through the nose of the bait.but try slitting the belly i know it works for me and helps alot.

- Guaranteed To Catch Bass
x2..good info..also one more HUGE IMPORTANT factor when you fish (if your a new angler and just starting out) PAY ATTENTION TO THE WEATHER...thats one of the most important factors to fishing that new guys dont think of. warm/cold fronts,storms,hot-cold,day after heavy rains, wind, moon phases.it all has to do and effects the lakes and the fish (how they feed, theyre moods) and try fishing at duck right b4 night thats some of the best fishing ever,ON ANY LAKE!!! i prefer early dawn sunrise and just b4 nightfall.nightfall topwater strikes, theres nuttin like it.but most importantly dont give up.also if you dont use them try using fish attractant sprays i.e gulp, megastrike,jj's magic and so on.and if anything next time SLOW down, most new guys tend to fish to fast,i know i did when i started out.so with that said...good luck and have at it again - Guaranteed To Catch Bass
