Gouin Reservoir-Quebec
yep, rained every day we were there, overall probablyt about 60% of the time it rained. the last day was warm and dry, and once we saw the bugs that came out, we were hoping for it to rain again! lol. but we had rain gear handy 100% of the time, like you said wear it even if it's not raining.

Help with buying rod/reel for my husband
you could use any pole for any type of fishing, it just may not be ideal. It depends what you're doing to be doing with it. A trout pole is usually smaller, and very light so you can feel the fish. A bass setup, or other setups may be a little bigger and heavier. If you think when you go out you'll primarily be trout fishing, get the pole he said. If not, just get one that fits the budget.

Do you care what you look like when your out fishing?
I guess some people just LIKE a wet a$z, personally, I don't. Doesn't have anything to do with sponsorship or TV or any of the other insinuations you keep sticking in there. Get past that please. I am talking about wearing the right clothing for the right condition. Boats are wet. The best fishing is often during inclement weather. I'm just dealing with the way it is -But for the record, I haven't had a North Face contract for over a year. I buy the stuff now,....but still like a dry backside. why do you keep assuming that no one wears different clothes depending on the weather? I've been in a boat plenty of times and have never had a wet ***. just because someone chooses to wear shorts and a t-shirt doesn't mean that's what they wear if it's raining. Just because someone doesn't dress the same way as you do doesn't mean they're wrong.

Fish Identification
i bet whoever told you that geniunely thought it was a carp, which is silly at best. I doubt they went home to tell their friends "She actually believed it was a carp!" ;D

Gouin Reservoir-Quebec
one of the problems we had was it was a little windy, and the lake was so d**n big that once you get out in the deep open water the waves were to the point that our boats couldn't get through safely, so getting to the hot spots were tough. we ended up finding spots from the guide, (he came once a day to make sure we were alive and had gas for the boat, and no probs with the cabin) and from the epa guys that stopped us. that had to be planned by the way, we were pretty much the only people on the lake.

NJ Fishing
I agree. If I did well somewhere, i would have no problem telling anyone that was looking for a good spot.

Lure of Choice
what's the difference? we were all kids at one point, and i'm sure when you were first learning you had questions, whether you asked on the web or in real life doesn't make a difference.

Bass story and some questions
my go-to bass bait is a wacky rigged senko, i prefer watermellon color. it seems to work regardless of conditions. hot, cold, calm, windy, late, early, it works for me. and i don't know where you live, but if i pulled out a 4 pound bass i wouldn't be calling it small

Do you care what you look like when your out fishing?
I just wear whatever's comfortable, depending on the weather. I don't have any specific "fishing clothes". If it's warm i wear a tshirt and shorts, if it's cooler i'll wear long sleeves. that's about the extent of it

Going Fishing today...need suggestions
exactly, throw some senkos, t-rigged or wacky, both produce well. when i find something that works, I keep doing it. i like the old saying, why fix what's not broken!

Going Fishing today...need suggestions
from your initial post it doesn't seem like you need any suggestions! do what you've been doing!

Bass Triggers
i've yet to figure out exactly why they strike. of course i know the main reasons why a bass would bite (instinct, to eat, just to be a bully, etc) but my lake is pretty clear, and you can see a good ways out. i've seen the bass just look at the worm and not do anything, with it literally right in front of it's face. then another one comes out of nowhere and takes it. from my experience, sometimes they take the bait as it's falling from the cast, sometimes when shaking the worm, and sometimes just sitting there. I haven't been out there enough to know yet if it's letting the worm fall, the way the bait moves, or just letting it sit at the bottom, vs. a combination of all of the above. so i'm going to keep my eye on this to see what the more experienced guys have to chime in.

General Walleye Advice?
I don't have much experience, but did some good walleye fishing up in canada last year. from what we did, and what worked, they only took live bait for us. since they were in such big schools, when we caught one, we dropped the anchor, and just fished straight down off the boat at the bottom (about 20-30 feet down). The bite was VERY soft, they didn't run at all. They took the hook, and stayed still. So at first it was tough to know when s0mething was on, because besides the slight tap there was no indication they were on untill they saw they were a few feet from the boat and started running. you feel a slight movement, set the hook! we were pulling in 18-24 inch walleyes (plus some smaller ones) and i've hooked a 4 inch sunny that put up more of a fight. until they see the boat! before they got close to the surface, they felt like you picked up a clump of weeds. could tell something was on there, but it didn't feel like a fish.

Bass Fishing Rules
like grimlin said as long as you don't have a bunch of bass sitting in a cooler i think you should be fine.

Confidence is overrated
same thing with me today. woke up, went down to the lake, saw the bass jumping all around me, and got nothing. 1 bite, but i didn't hook it. first time i've been in the lake and came out empty.

When does it count?
i think this is going to be different for anyone. i don't count it as caught untill I take the bait out of it's mouth. if it gets away at the boat or shore i don't count it as caught.
