  1. I voted 2. one usually has a spinnerbait or some other lure, and the other has a worm on it. both work excellent where I fish, so there's no need for a 3rd setup. I am YET to catch a fish in my lake on anything but these 2 setups, and god knows i've tried lol.
  2. If you can do something consitently, it's not luck. sometimes, yes, you do get lucky. but i don't think a rookie on his first day out is going to pull in too many 10 pounders.
  3. got my 3 new spinnerbaits, and all 3 are great. guessing you jsut had a fluke. i have good luck with them, give them a 2nd shot! yesterday I got 6 lm and a nice pickerel on them in about an hour of fishing off the dock. The pickerel pulled it a little wide, I just bent it back and it was as good as new. So for any doubters, these work. I was using the sexy shad. I also do well with chartreuse/white. I'll be sure to keep a few of these on hand. Highly recommended.
  4. depends what you're doing, and what you feel like doing. with worms, I vary it up. sometimes i'll throw it out, let it sit a while. sometimes i'll let it fall on slack line. sometimes i'll have the line tight the second it hits the water, twich it a few times to give that wacky worm some movement. sometimes i'll let it sit on the bottom, twich a few times, and sometimes i'll just slowly raise the rod tip. you're best bet is to try all of these techniques, and take note of what seems to work the most. with other baits, creatures, lizards, etc, I do the same thing. sometimes i'll crawl it on the bottom, swim it through the middle, let it fall and give a tug, let it fall give a tug, and sometimes swim it off the top. different techniques will work in different conditions, so try them all and use what works.
  5. the only way to get bigger fish is to spend more time on the water. The more you're out there getting familiar with the pond, they better chance you have of hooking something big. also if it's a smaller pond, the big ones will be a little harder to catch. remember, they got that big because they didn't get caught!
  6. flipping and pitching are techniques used to accuarately put your bait on/around structure from short distance. you've probably done it without knowing it! basically instead of making your normal cast, where you bring the pole back and snap it forwards, you let the bait hang down in front of you, flip the bail, lower your rod slightly to let the bait swing back, then raise the rod back up to let the bait swing forwards and go into the water. it's great when getting into tight areas, or areas that you want to be in that are too close to do a regular cast.
  7. in any industry, hobby, etc. I agree you get what you pay for. But I also feel like it's more about the person using the equipment than the actual equipment itself. Granted someone will do better with better equipment, but they will not do better simply because of the equipment if that makes sense. As an example, I do video for a living. I have a very expensive video camera and top notch equipment for my industry. But, I can take my parents $200 video camera and still make a great video out of it. If I gave my $15,000 setup to someone, it doesn't mean they'll make a nice video. that being said, like anything, get the best you can afford. but you don't have to take out a 2nd mortgage to go fishing. I still use my broken $18 fishing pole,(it's not my main pole of course lol) and catch alot of fish on it. Learn the fundementals and practice the skills involved with what you're doing, and that's more important than what equipment you're using imo. You can have the best setup in the world, the nicest bass boat, the best fish finders, if you don't use them properly you won't be any better off than the person who is fishing off the dock with their crappy lil setup. what it comes down to, is it's all about fun!
  8. not sure on the numbers, but from a companies perspective it makes sense to advertise on a forum. close to 100% of people on this forum buy what they sell.
  9. never kissed a fish. I get them out of the water and back in as soon as possible. If it's a nice one i snap a quick pic but that's about it.
  10. mine is in my avatar, which is deceiving since i had to hold the fish and take a pic myself. it was just about the same size as the pic right above me, the one that says caught it on a spinnbait. didn't have a scale, so i'm not going to guess, but that's the biggest of the year so far. On my lake we catch them 1.5-3 pounds all day. they've been getting bigger over the last few weeks which is looking promising.
  11. yea, my main pole is at the bottom of the lake somewhere.... sucks! i keep this one as a backup. it still actually works great with senkos, they're heavy enough to still be able to feel them and whatnot. can't cast very far though lol. what i'll do sometimes is throw a spinner on my other pole, and keep the broken one handy with a senko.
  12. long story short, i was fishing with a buddy and his girl sunday night, and because of certain things that happened i dropped my pole when i almost fell out of the boat.... so yes lol. getting a new one today after work so i have it for the weekend.
  13. fixed it. maybe that's why there was no responses
  14. I know it's nothing crazy, but it's my best so far. d**n, did this little bugger pull! I was throwing out a wacky senko, and when he bit i thought for sure i had a huge largemouth on. I have never been specifically going for smallmouth, but get a few here and there going for the lm. after the fight of this guy i may try to get more of them! before anyone says anything, i know it's not good to lay them down like this, and it's not something I do. He was hooked in the very edge of his mouth and was fighting too hard for me to lip him without hooking myself. got the hook out, snapped a quick pick and he was back in the water in less than a few seconds. and the pole is not laying across it just looks that way from the angle
  15. I've seen a game warden twice, once in canada, and once this year at opening trout day. That's it. But the guy on opening day scared the nuts out of us, snuck up on us and kind came out between the bushes, full fatigues, gun, bullet vest, the works. I wasn't sure if we were gonna make it out of there that day lol I mainly fish on private lakes where I live, never seen any patrols or anything. Never asked for my license either. We have private security there, so every now and then a security guard will ask if i live there, other than that no one has asked anything.
  16. I'll let you know when I get my others how they are. I'll be out friday and probably saturday/sunday.
  17. have to say, that's why I broke down and bought it. saw him catching fish after fish with no cuts in the footage. I was in the market for a spinnerbait anyways, so figured what the hell. very happy with the purchase.
  18. sounds like just a defect... i had 2 of them, and didn't have that problem. Caught a bunch of fish, all the paint is still there, nothing is bent, skirt is great, it seems extremely well built to me... maybe you just got a bad one. mine didn't roll at all either.
  19. loving these spinnerbaits. snapped my line casting sunday, must have rubbed it on something in the water, threw the spinner about 100 yards lol. I ordered 3 more today, and paid extra for express shipping. I'm having pretty good luck with them.
  20. I catch fish on any colors. From my experience people seem to put too much emphasis on color. They'll say "You have to use light colors here" and I throw out black, or black with flake, or any other dark colors and get just as many fish. Or at this spot dark colors work best, and i'll still catch them on my watermellon or baby bass.
  21. to sum this up, the marine world is facing the same problems as the car world. what are those problems? You can't run ethanol in any engine not designed to run it. While yes, it will use more gas, the gas is also significantly cheaper. As far as power, with a little knowledge of how a motor works (in terms of performance) you can get alot more power out of ethanol than gas. The fastest cars in the world run on alcohol, not gas. The engine just needs to be set up to handle the corrosive qualities of alcolhol. That being said, I don't think there's much benefit to squeeze more horsepower out of you engine unless you race your boat lol.
  22. depends on the water, and what the fish are doing. Shallow or very weedy water and I crank it in faster, I try to keep it just below the surface so I can see it the whole way back. Deeper water, or less weeds, i'll experiment keeping not of what works and keep doing it. If i'm going fast and get nothing after a while i'll slow it down, if nothing, i'll try medium. I seem to get the best results with 2 poles, the spinnerbait seems to get the fish moving, and then throwing in a wacky senko, after about a dozen casts with the spinner if I don't get something i'll throw out the senko, and almost always get one on the first few casts.
  23. Ok, I need some help here. Me and my buddy caught about 25-30 fish today. We tried senkos, spinnerbaits, jigs, yamo kreature, and a few other things. Every single thing we threw in the water caught fish, except the space monkey. A few sunny nipped at the tails a little, other than that, not even a bite. I have now tried weightless, t-rigged, crawl it off the bottom, swim it off the top (and everything in between) basically everything I could think of. Not a bite. I've tried different techniques in 6 different lakes. What gives?
  24. I got 12 decent bass today (got more than that but i don't count the lil babies) and 4 of them were on the spinnerbait. works great! Still have not had a single hit on the space monkeys.
  25. i would also recommend jb weld. works great, dries relatiely quickly, and is d**n strong.
