  1. I use 15# Power Pro on spinning gear and I find myself using it more and more for bass fishing. One of the things I love about it is incredible abrasion resistance to wood and vegetation. I'm sick and tired of mono having frays in it every couple of feet for almost a full cast length. Some braids cast very well, others don't. There are disadvantages, mainly wind knots and an uncanny ability to get everywhere it shouldn't, like inside split rings and the like, but I'm not going back, the advantages greatly outweigh the disadvantages for me.
  2. Well, it sounds like you have no visible cover to target, so I'd start by moving around and covering as much water as you can to determine if there are spots that produce better than others, even if the reason why is not apparent. You can use horizontal search baits, like crankbaits, spinnerbaits and topwaters. If you find some fish you can slow down and fish the area more thoroughly with soft plastics. You might also try to fish at the higher percentage times, such as low light period. I've seen a lot of big bass taken from small ponds. Good luck.
  3. I've never had a problem with the regular Palomar on my 15# Power Pro, but I can't say it's the "best" because I haven't tried others.
  4. Nope, but Evinrude/Johnson motors from that time frame were great. My friend had a '69 Johnson and I had a '71 Evinrude, both 6hp

I use snap swivels with inline spinners. I never bought into the advice to not use snaps with split rings. I never saw a decrease in action and have seen no evidence of a reduced number of bites.
  6. There were lots of golfers at work, among them Mike and Bob. Mike was not noted for language excellence. One time he told us that Bob had invited him to play at his club and he thought that he should retaliate and invite Bob to his. Mike also referred to the strip that divides a highway as the "meridian."
  7. Check your state regulations. Nobody gets in trouble for accidentally catching a fish out of season if they throw it back. However, it may be illegal to fish for a species out of season, even on a catch-and-release basis, which is why I advised to check your regulations.

I can understand why they'd look large to you, with your experience being with trout. But be assured that these are not at all large by bass standards. You can use them with confidence.
  9. I agree with the comments about the washers. The only thing I would add is before you do any adjustments, if you have the opportunity, is to hit the water, any water, get a lure tied on and cast and retrieve it under normal lure resistance to see if it spools any differently from when you do it in your basement or wherever.
  10. Same here. Spinning is fine for Texas rigs. Use a rod with medium or medium-heavy power.
  11. GYCB sells direct from www.baits.com

In defense of NOAA, it's not just them, it's a whole bunch of other forecasters as well. Just comparing the forecast with the actual over the course of many years, it's obvious that wind must be notoriously difficult to forecast. Nevertheless, when a direction is mentioned either in the forecast or actual observations, it represents the direction the wind is coming from.
  13. I have caught hundreds of walleye, but from non-typical habitat, namely, the shallow, murky waters of the Erie Canal, and wouldn't have a clue how to catch them in lakes. But at the canal I fished with grubs on jigheads and a wide variety of crankbaits and they readily took both.
  14. Shouldn't you be answering your question about running depth since only you know what depths you want to fish? As to colors, I'm not big on them as an ultra-important factor. I generally get by with two colors, something muted like shad or bluegill pattern and something louder, usually firetiger.
  15. There has to be. I'd e-mail the guy at the bottom of the page if you don't get a reply. http://www.thamesriver.on.ca/Parks/boating.htm
  16. I left it at the default setting of "Last week" and that was the problem. I got hits when I changed to three months. Thanks.
  17. I twice searched for "Cavitron", once for subject line, once for messages, and got no hits both times. I'm positive I've seen them mentioned here. Of course, there's a good possibility that I did something wrong, but there was nothing obvious.

Maybe you haven't fished them enough or maybe you just haven't been in the right places at the right time. There's no reason not to get hit if you're fishing them around bass that are willing to hit a lure.
  19. You'll gets loads of hits if you Google: lake erie bass guides But you might get a better answer here if you mention what city or town you want to fish out of. (I'd also love to fish that lake once before I check out).
  20. I've reeled in many a bass that I couldn't even see because it was buried in curly-leaf pondweed. But it's a spring weed and should be starting to disappear soon.
  21. Not what you want to hear, but I never had a problem with the Palomar with my 15# Power Pro.
  22. Two Rapalas come to mind. There's the original floater and the Countdown. The latter is a sinking bait but can easily be fished in the upper three feet of the water column.
  23. I don't know how you define "great" pictures. Unless you're looking for National Geographic quality, most any camera, even a point-and-shoot, can take great pictures based on the standards of most ordinary folks. For the most part, great pictures are taken by great photographers, just as great fishing is done by great fishermen. In both fields, the person's skills are much more important than which camera or which rod. Take advantage of the many camera review sites and ask some questions on a photography forum. Also, as Micro suggested, make sure that you have valid reasons for making that kind of investment in a film camera in this day and age. P.S. I just noticed that your subject line said "Digital" and the 590UZ you mentioned is a digital, but your message sounded like you wanted film. I'd suggest reading as many reviews as possible before buying.
  24. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I also wouldn't rule out topwaters either.
  25. I would think that the Bassmaster article could influence the demand for this or other items. Just because it's $30 doesn't mean it can't perform satisfactorily. Most of the rods I've owned are inexpensive and I've been satisfied. I'm not going to claim that it's the same as a rod costing 10 times more, but then, I drive a Toyota Corolla and I doubt that it's less effective than, say, a Lexus in getting me to where I want to go. My rods cast lures, detect bites, set hooks and fight fish to my satisfaction. When somebody proves to me that a $250 rod will get more fish than a $40 or that a $20 crankbait will catch more than a $5, I might change my thinking.
