Jig Fishing Presentation
Wow .. Lite jig... I fish a jig this way... clear water... I'll fish 3/8-5/16 oz green pumpkin finesse jig or Missouri craw..(I'm in Missouri) with a small matching trailer that is very realistic. action trailer in summer and fall, non action trailer in spring and winter.. always have as many rattles as possible on your jig for me it's two. Casting: Roll casts or long pitches.. I let the lure fall straight down on a semi slack line. since 80% of strikes happen on the fall i reengage the bail as soon as i feel i have sufficient line out to let the bait drop freely and am watching the line very careful to make sure it is falling free and a consistent rate (ie not to the side or stopped before bait should have hit bottom if it does i set the hook). Retrieve: As soon as the bait hits bottom I'll lift the jig 1" off the bottom to see if it's mushy if it is i set the hook, if it's not I'll let it sit a sec and then lift it a foot with a quick shake at the top of the retrieve and then let it fall straight down... and repeat.. If short slow pulls in cold water. long faster pulls in warm water. Once I'm out of the strike zone i real it in... for me in clear water the strike zone is a 4 foot circle around the piece of cover I'm fishing. Stained water: Cast: 5/16- 1/2 oz in green pumpkin or brownish colors like PBJ... med size trailer with same warm or cold water type trailers.. can get away with less realistic types. same as above. but all pitches.. long to short depending on density of cover. Retrieve: same as above but slightly longer pulls and strike zone shrinks to 2&1/2 foot circles. Heavily stained or murky water, extreme heavy cover & night. Cast: short pitches & flipping, Black, Blue, Blk/Blu, 5/16- 3/4 with large trailers with same warm or cold water type trailers.. can get away with even less realistic types. retrieve.. same as above but strike zone is now a foot or less and it will be one maybe two pulls before reeling in and recasting. anytime i hit a piece of cover i will shank the jig on it before moving it to get those rattles working.

That is a great idea, this is one of the best tips I have read anywhere. What an excellent way to concentrate on the baits rhythm. Well done.

Advantages of spinning reel
for serious Bigmouth fishing a bait-caster is a must.. i would love to see video of a person making a 50 foot pitch with out a splash on a spinning reel... Spinning reels are good for one thing... finesse fishing.. and by that i mean super light baits.. but even that is becoming a moot point with reels like the 50mg but to each his own I have a friend who is an avid fisherman and wont fish anything but spin casting reels... it's pretty funny gloomis rods with zebco 33's

No one said they suck some people just think there are better rods out there for the money

issue with line
For top water i use 20# mono... because the bait is on top of the water and fish strike top water baits in a reaction type manner line diameter is not an issue. How ever you get the same horseshoe effect with any line you use.. Boat position is the key here you need to cast into the wind with you boat position in the right manner.. if your fishing from the bank there is not much you can do.. the bait will follow the line path...

Who makes the Gander Mountain Guide Series Rods and the Bass Pro Rods?
So you don't think the Shimano Cumara, Quantum KVD Tour, Cabelas XMLTi, Bass Pro Johnny Morris Elite, Fenwick HMG, or the Kistler Magnesium (for a few examples) are any good? Those rods are all made in China. I wish we hadn't lost so many of our manufacturing jobs here in the States, and I hope we can start to see more US based manufacturing in the future. But any company that wants to survive is going to make their product in a location that gives them the best bang for their buck. St Croix for example has opened up production in Mexico (certain series only) to stay competitive. That's what I'm saying.... I'm all for American manufacturing and in times like today when our economy is in the crapper it's ok to want to help people find work and feed their families.. but i just don't get the whole American stuff is better just because it's made in America crap..so not true

If you want a good all around flipping and pitching stick any 7'6" MH with xfast tip will work nicely.. the xfast action gives you the right amount of stiffness and backbone to flip with & the control to pitch accurately

Best line for soft plastic fishing...?
You want the best line? FC Sniper shooter by sunline... freakin expensive in the states thats why i don't fish it... but it's only 20 bucks a filler spool in Korea ... Cant wait!!!!

Swimbait/Big bait reel?
How about this sexy little thing
-
Swimbait/Big bait reel?
I was thinking about maybe a good round inshore reel like Daiwa's TD Luna, i've seen the guys on TT fish swimbaits with reels like this and it seems preety cool. I think Abu makes one too..
-
Swimbait/Big bait reel?
I haven't been real successful with my 4-6 inch hard baits...I have two jackal giron's, a BPS Zr9, and a full size True Tungsten... I think it has to do with the fact that the things are so freaking cool looking and i don't have the guts to fish them near the cover i need to to catch fish... I don't want to loose them... I think i Collect the high end hard baits more than i really fish them...
