Pike Lakes in IL and Southern Wisconsin
Geneva and Delevan are both great pike likes as stated. Waubesa is also a great lake for pike and musky. I almost bought a house in the Zion area when I was originally going to be working in IL. Great area.

New Rods??
The quality question you are asking about cannot be addressed until they have been on the market for a year or two. I'm surprised at how many people buy rods and reels "because they look cool." I don't see why, its a factor of the rod. Looks play a huge role, I do not choose my rods based on looks alone, but if it comes down to rod 1 vs rod 2 and I like them equally the same and they both fulfill the same purpose, it will come down to which one is more aesthetically pleasing to me.

Missed fish caught on second strike
It happens very often! I always carry a t-rigged weightless plastic when I'm frogging! When the bass miss the frog I will toss the plastic out their and let is slow fall, often times that bass will consume it. This is because it is common for them to stun their prey and come back to consume it!

Thin Air
Yes it is. I miss it very much, 6 years there were quite possibly some of my favorite years. Though I was in the desert, wish I had traveled around the state more, only made it to NorCal a dozen times. Beautiful hikes man, I backpacked the PCT and Summit Trail while I was out there. Those memories will stick with me forever! It's great you have a girlfriend who likes to hike and likes the outdoors! My wife enjoys nature as well, makes for a great time.

Unknown fish!
Neat, I have never seen a green sunfish. Looks like it is a crappie / sunfish cross.

If they are in Wisconsin, sure. But there are people on here that are near waters that hold potential records. a 10#er? In WI? I need to go fish that lake... ;D

Fall Transition
Thanks, cart! You guys are not alone in seeing this. I'm seeing this exact thing in the lakes here in WI. We've had a stretch of low 70's and high 60's already and we aren't out of August yet. I've already made the transition to the Fall pattern. The Water temp is averaging 65-70 daily currently. It is 54' here as I type this, and today didn't break 62'. This has been a very odd summer, we had an established thermocline for an extremely shortened period.

Got A New Rod!!
Same for me... its almost like a science or a puzzle. Matching the best reel for the job to the best rod for the job in your arsenal... spooling the line, and selecting a lure. All are important parts of the whole. For me I like to try to make the set up perfect to my likings for the task I designate it. All part of the fun!

Best rigging for Crappie?
Crappie are fun on an UL set up with 4# mono. Neon green grub seems to do the best for me.

For the Oakley fans...
I threw up a little bit when I saw that price tag.

Muddy's New Adventure
Would also look sexy on that new Abu Vendetta rod. Actually that may be my next set up if the Vendetta rods are any good.

Stanley Ribbits
I like the Owner twistlock open gap hooks in 4/0 or 5/0.

The Dogs, lets see em.
Here is the crew! Lestat the poodle. Aka Public Enemy #2 Mya the Mook (Found her wandering around the desert when we lived in California, we were out hiking in Joshua Tree national park and she wandered up to us, looked like she hadn't eaten in days. We found a box with about 6 other dead puppies around it, disgusting owners probably set them out in the desert to die... so she has been with us ever since. She is half beagle half dauschhund, probably some other things too... ) The big one on the leash is Denver, he is a Collie, my wife's first show dog, he's retired now at 6 y/o. He has had several group placements including 2 group 1's (Best in herding group) my wife still shows him from time to time in the Veterans class. Lastly... Elvis, another Collie (Lestat is also in the pen with him) Had to use a pen when we lived with an inlaws for a month after I got out of the service when we were buying our house... very glad we have a fenced in yard for these guys now. Oh I almost forgot... the f-in cat.... I hate cats. She came with the wife.
