Hope this hasn't been posted before! Just saw it on AOL today.

RIP Benson.
Actually reading that article made me sad!

Why buy Shimano MG 50 when the Calais is cheaper?
Gonna go with the group here and say the Core 50. Holding that thing in your hand for the first time is shocking!

Golf course fishing
I fish a lake (from the bank) in a gated community frequently. One side of the lake has the golf course running along it. During the day I'll fish the opposing side which is usually crowded with fisherman but at night once all the golfers are finished, I might make a run along the opposite side of the lake. I usually don't night fish because the mosquitos become unstoppable. The fishing on the golf course side of the lake is MUCH easier than on the open side. I would never fish on the course while anyone was still playing, I think it's rude and I wouldn't want to throw someone off by being in their way.

Rod Sensitivity Comparison
I think my advice would be to pick the one that you feel slightly happier with at this moment. If you get the other one off of a recommendation, you will always have this itch bothering you about how different it might be with the rod you really liked.

Criteria and methods of judging rods
Thanks for the responses. So do most people agree that the throat trick isn't the best indicator of sensitivity? I assume Flechero was referring to placing the tip of the rod on a partner's throat and having them talk to see what you feel.

Just curios
hydrilla, not that big of a fan of lilys

Ordered the BPS extreme combo.
Throw on some mono backing. It will fight slippage and save you money by using less braid.

Topwater Bites But Bass Not Smashing Lures - Smaller Lures?
Sounds infuriating. Maybe you could run a buzzbait over the same spots. Put on a trailer hook and see what happens?

Which Calais?

After a Missed Strike - Where Does the Fish Go?
So earlier this summer I was fishing this lake and I could see spawning beds all along the side of the lake about 30 yards apart. Two seperate beds the first time I ran a senko through I had hits but missed my hooksets. Both times I cast the lure right back, ran the bait through the bed again and hooked up with the fish. I think this is a more obvious scenario of a male fish defending a spawning bed. In general, I feel like my percentage is a little better with casting right back after a missed hit. I feel like about half the time it usually works out for me.

Sweet setup, hope it catches you some fish!

Criteria and methods of judging rods
Price, cosmetics, sensativity, features.... If you were to develop a set of criteria for judging how good a rod is what categories would you include? Then following up, how would you test for performance in those categories? When/if you go into a store to purchase a new rod, what kinds of little tricks do you have for testing to see if you like that rod?

Do pro's pee off the boat?
TMI. That's short for "too much information."

Zebco 33 vs Curado
Personally, I think you're all coo-coo. Skip the whole over-rated, over-priced reel ordeal and tie some line right to a stick, super sensative!!!!

Leverage vs control?
Okay, so this is my understanding. A fishing pole is essentially a third-class lever with the fulcrum exhisting at the ending point (where your hands grip) of the level/stick. The physics principle at work here is "Work = force * distance." Assume your force (rod yank) is held constant, a longer rod (distance) then will then create more work (power) in the form of a stronger hookset. A longer rod has more leverage. This gets drastically more complicated when you consider the action of rods. It would be fun to take a physics applied to fishing course!

Light tackle baitcaster??
You might enjoy a Citica E. 100 bucks on certain online auction sites. It's not as particularly designed for the small stuff like the other recommendations have been but its very affordable. Honestly, if I were you, I would splurge a bit and go for that Pixy.

visable braid
Did you see white power pro at the store or was it old? It could have just been faded.

Bassin and Beer
Yes, especially while fishing frogs. Because of my delayed reaction time I find that it improves my hookup ratio! ;D

Sunglasses
I own costas blue mirror w/ 400 lenses. Great glasses! I plan on getting green mirror w/ 580 lenses after my friend letting me borrow his for a couple weeks. Their warranty is great too. I know cause I've used it! I always wear croakies w/ my costas and one day at school last year I happened to go right from class to this party and never had a chance to drop off my glasses or leave them anywhere safe. I thought I'd be okay since the croakies keep 'em pretty secure. Anyways, the night involved a lot of alcohol and dancing and the next morning I woke up and could not find my glasses. After some of the haze cleared, I remembered I had them around my neck while dancing at the fraternity house. I went back to the house to check the basement and sure enough, my glasses were shattered and scattered to the four winds after being danced all over and completely raged on. I collected all the pieces, shipped them to CDM, paid a relatively small fee for repair. The glasses are like new, or maybe they even just gave me a new pair, I can't remember. Very happy with them! A cool alternative to the Costa bandwagon would be some Oakley Frogskins! I just got these recently and the polarization kicks some serious ***! I'd say their effectiveness is somewhere between the 400 and 580 lenses of Costas. They don't keep the light out as well but they're 10x more stylish - they've got that rayban wayfarer look. They're also extremely lightweight compared to CDM which for me makes them more comfortable! Only downside is they're pretty rare and hard to find.

I'm saving my money for the Stradic CI4 pending good feedback/reviews from members.

What Rod For What Job?
Really a great way to figure this out is to just surf some rod makers' websites. Two examples: http://products.gloomis.com/gl/products/group.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032499&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181201&bmUID=1249675762057 http://dobynsrods.com/rods.html Loomis has their rods categorized by application first. Dobyns lists their rods and details their targeted usage in their description. Does this answer your question?
