  1. RW I really need to give the cavitron a try, I own a half dozen brands with secretweapon's being my favorite but never thrown the cav's. Here lately I've been throwing a Hart with good results. The problem I've found with alotta brands are you often have to buy several often getting "duds" that wont run right no matter how much you tune them. I can deal with it tracking to one side, but when it runs off kilter (to the left or right of the buzzer) it bugs me. Are cavitrons better in this regard? I hear they will run on plane a bit slower than other models. Which may be
  2. Well the spawn has come and gone in most of our waters and topwater is heating up. I've had a couple GREAT evenings on buzzers and sammys. Anyone else getting bit and what are ya slingin'?
  3. I was very skeptical but a friend reccomended I try CXX #6 on my spinning rods and it rocks. Strong, sensitive, and shockingly manageable for an Abraision resistant mono.
  4. Putting a rod tip against someone's throat while they talk will give you an idea how well it transmits vibration. I've done it and the diffrence was signifigant between a loomis IMX and a BPS extreme. You might look like a tool and its not an exact science, but it works lol.
  5. That's what everyone thinks, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. I agree, Suh looks like the greatest thing since sliced bread, but its a gamble taking a DT that high. How many cant miss tackles drafted in the top 10 have flopped over the years? More have been busts than have made an impact. I think they'll go with a tackle, but my sleeper pick is Eric Berry.Game changing safetys are VERY rare and change franchises.
  6. They are my bait of choice on a certain lake when the bass start feeding on dragonflies.(weightless) They also make a great bait on the river if you let the current carry it into ambush zones. It's not like its the type of bait that a buddy can be using and if you have none, your gonna get outfished on. Alot of creature type baits will work in the same situation, however Id pick up a few to round out your colllection.
  7. Wow, just wow. Could you imagine hooking into that thing and seeing the head come up for the first time? Interesting how they kill their bass yet they are apparently getting so big? The guy w/the record claims there are many over 20 in Biwa (I think thats the name).
  8. WOW! know any details?
  9. If you cast a rattlebait 100'+ on a 3' flat where the fish can be outta the water in an instant, hook into a big fish and battle it with your rod up, waiting to "react" before you drop your tip (and reel in the slack to keep tension) you are asking for trouble. I'm talking about true trophy fish, they just have a knack for throwing baits certain types of baits. Most of my favorite lures (traps, BIG spook type baits) are more prone to this becuase fish are often hooked outside the mouth. With the right tackle and techniqe you absolutely can keep a fish from jumping. Maybe not always keep its head down, but jumping most of the time yes. Bill Siementel has a theory about pulling on a big bucket mouth as its head comes up, to fill it with water and thus keeping it from jumping. I'm blessed in that I have access to 4 private ponds with some monsters in them and hooked and caught a rediculous number of citation caliber fish over the last 4 years. I dont care how you see stacey king catching 2lb spots on TV, but I just dont lose fish anymore from thrown hooks since keeping my tip down. Mind you I'm still adjusting and directing it to the left or right as needed while the rod is still pointed towards the water somewhat.
  10. If it has any size to it, 90% of the time my tip is down or even in the water on lipless cranks.A big fish will throw a hook in a second if you let it. Big river smallies here on the james are famous for it. The only exception is when a need to quickly get it outta cover and I'll use the rod to lift it away from whatever is there. Where I fish heavy veggies arent an issue. Smaller bass I really dont care and will usually go with 3/4 or so.
  11. Steve you beat me to it! Lol that should do the trick
  12. Not too sure about those baits in paticular, but I've had props on tiny torpedos that wouldnt turn because the eye screw the propellor is on was too tight. maybe take some needle nose and back it out a bit and see if that helps.
  13. I own both and there really is no wrong answer. In my hand the revo sx can outcast the curado by a good 20'+ with 5/8 spinnerbait , but lighter baits go to the curado (the revo is no slouch). The curado is much lighter and sits lower on the rod, which is a factor for some. The only thing that stands out for me is the dual brakeing available on some of the revos, being a beginner I would advise you to consider that. It is the most user friendly braking system in existence.
  14. I throughly checked 3 ponds sat/sun and other than crappie that appeared to be staging, nothing yet. Usually its crappie, then bass, then bluegill with the bass/gills interlapping some. We had torrential downpours last night so not sure how that'll affect things. Great tips sam, the plan ol' shakeyhead has served me well the past 4 years or so.
  15. Sam have you spotted any bedding yet? The fish have been kinda boogered up in the ponds I've been fishing, but it seems like any day now. It's supposed to be 94 tommorow!
  16. Try bending the flanges on the bottum of the metal "buzzer", GENTLY.
  17. Can it? Absolutely. Just watch it as you go up in line size, as the spool is shallow. I can nearly spool a few of my rigs with 17lb and a c rig.
  18. Bobby any plans for lighter jigheads?
  19. Also the force of a fish thrashing can be greater than the actual weight of the fish.
  20. Bass eat insects far more than people think...Especially in lakes that don't have shad or crawdads prevalant. For a brief period at a certain lake I fish, the dragon flies fly low to the water to drop eggs (I assume). Bass everywhere literally jump clean outta the water to hit em. I tried with mixed results to find a mimic until I started throwing the nories bug by kinami baits. At times I can consistently catch a fish a cast when the bite is right. Another favorite is the rebel crickhopper/poppers. VERY underated baits, just make sure you put better hooks on them. Don't ask me how I know. I've caught some toads on the poppers, and the cranks are great for numbers. River to sea makes a dragonfly hardbait that looks good, but I hear their baits are hit and miss.
  21. should be awesome when you get on a sewage pipe bite heats up
  22. Roadwarrior he is talking about a diffrent reel. The newer model/braking system is much more forgiving.
  23. You cant go wrong either way. I own the SX and E7, and they do the job. But based on past experience with revos and other dual brake reels the STX would get my cash. It's the most user friendly system I've used.
