  1. Lews share general design, parts, tooling and platform with lots of other brands including the BPS and JM as well as Pure Fishing brands. Just keep that in mind if decide to jump ship. In general Lews compete well with other reels in given price points. Daiwas Tatula is a popular current offering can be had for $100.
  2. The power (resistance to flex) and action (where the rod initially bends when force is applied) are independent of one another. The only way to know is to handle both rods and see which best suits the need.
  3. Rolo summed it up. Bait weight and cover are the factors that separate the two.
  4. Can you describe what you're calling the clutch bar? Are the plates the spacers between the thumb bar and frame? If so they just plug into the frame. If you want to call me I'll walk you through fixing it. 973-459-2835 mike.
  5. Walk off 75 yards of the mono you have on and top off with braid. No need to spool lots of braid that will never see the light of day.
  6. ^^ that's how my newer on works.
  7. Moderate fast action will work on a spinnerbait rod as long as there's enough power and back bone to drive the heavy hook home. Remember slower action doesn't have to mean softer or whippy tip.
  8. Jim at Dominion Tackle does simple repairs.
  9. Sometimes it's a matter of degree. Sound vs noise. Very few reels operate completely silently especially after all the gobs of factory grease is cleaned out.
  10. It's hard to tell. Doesn't sound like gears really. Is the sound something new? Came on suddenly?
  11. Quality bearings in key spots are more important than total count. Vintage or even antique tackle can be not only fishable but highly effective.
  12. If held parallel to the water the deadlift capability of a bass rod will surprise you but of course there is a limit.
  13. Without looking my guess is that the swimbait model has a higher lure weight range. Then again labels are just that.
  14. Braid use in and of itself is safe. Just use common sense in your rod handling. Avoid actions or movements that end the tip beyond 90* to the rod regardless of line type and you'll be fine.
  15. It depends on the actual cause. In the rare occurrence that that an issue can't be resolved for whatever reason I only charge a small diagnostic fee.
  16. There should a click washer like the one in the cap only with two legs that insert in the holes in the side plate. The gold click spring sandwiches in between them.
  17. The best compromise I've found is 80w-140 gear oil. It doesn't gum up like grease and stays better than oil. Add a drop occasionally if usecand conditions indicate.
  18. I'll be happy to take care of your reels if given the opportunity. If you send reels provide your screen name here to get 10% off labor. Let me know if you have any questions.
  19. The packaging and lack of proper insurance are to blame more than the carrier. Things happen that's why there's insurance available. Schedule 40 pvc and fully insured is the way to go.
  20. Got ya. The first $50 of insurance on priority mail is free by the way. This is a tough one. Good luck.
  21. May I ask, why eBay and not UPS whose responsible and insured the package ?
  22. Retailers and manufacturers are understandably tight lipped about such things. Your best bet to get a blank with the same characteristics is to send the rod to a rod builder familiar with the Common Cents System (CCS) have it measured and match it to a new blank. Not being a really unique blank in the large scheme of things it would be easier to just describe to the best of your ability what you'd like in a blank and take suggestions.
  23. I'll be happy to go through your reel for you if you decide to keep it. A good cleaning can be especially effective on a newer quantum.
  24. If you like the mojo what about just stepping up one to MH?
