Effect of cold temps on graphite rods
As far as I'm aware naturally occurring temperatures will not have any negative affect on a graphite rod.

Why can't I use wire leader for freshwater fishing?
In my experience I do not consider bass line shy. A wire leaders weight would have a negative affect on many popular baits. There's no need for a leader unless you're fishing pike waters. Long story short, adjust your tackle to conditions.

Shimano Rod parts?
You'd have to strip the entire rod to mount the new seat in addition to getting the old one off. You'd be way ahead of the game to build new rods.

Super Tuned Reels
When compared to stock bearings that have been flushed and properly lubed, the gains of a bearing swap are less significant. Typically the two spool bearings are what's changed. The Carbontex drag is a good upgrade and fairly inexpensive. Max drag will increase but better still they're smoother and consistent. I'd have to see the handle or a schematic to see what the options are. A lot of what you're looking at here is getting into the enthusiast realm and won't do a lot on the Water as far as fish catching. That's fine as long as that fits your goals and expectations. There's a lot of hype around reel tuning that, probably to my own detriment, I shy away from. Anyone wanting to discuss specific scenarios feel free to give me a shout.

Heavy Cover Rod
It depends on where you feel you can compromise. You want a frog rod to have some tip to load and cast. A punching rod would ideally be more powerful than either of the other two.

The Birth Of 10-Foot Bass Rods...
No, they can hang a down rigger weight off the back end. Then it will be "light in hand"

expanding my fishing arsenal
Add a MH mod for treble hook lures and a m/f 7' spinning for finesse baits. You can get technique specific after that.

Another Shamano/ Daiwa question
That's a healthy budget for a good reel. Hard to wrong with either brand. It really comes down to your preferences.

Fiberglass Cranking Sticks - What are your thoughts?
The sr705 is my favorite. All glass rods can't be lumped together any more than all graphite rods.

Rod and reel setups for multiple techniques
Arguably the single best pinned post on the forum.

Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks everyone for making this community one of many blessings for which I'm thankful.

Micro guides vs normal
Properly employed micro guides allow a blank to retain the maximum amount of its inherent characteristics through the weight savings. The result is a crisper, more sensitive and better balanced rod. The problem is that too many manufacturers don't employ them correctly and make exaggerated claims regarding casting distance etc. micros aren't a cure all but have a definite time and place. They are contra indicated where ice, filimentous algae or cottonwood are a factor.

Maintaining entry level Reels
The ratchet is a gear and needs to be greased. The grease on the small drag washer is probably from that but it is actually a dry system.

Ideal power rod for shakey head fishing?
It depends on the weight of the jig and cover. For me, shaky head are sparse cover , finesse baits so usually a ml spinning rig.

Getting into rod repair/building ~ Advice Needed!
It's a rewarding craft. Go slow and see how you like it. There's a learning curve the steepness depends on the individual. If it morphs and grows into a business great but don't get into it solely for that reason.

Maintaining entry level Reels
They are drag washers but I think those models are a dry system.

Help Needed: Rod Tapers
Not necessarily. Power is the measure of resistance to flexing, action is where the Rod bends initially when pressure is applied.

Bearing help for a Shimano Cardiff 200A
Screeching bearings are actually not that common. The brakes are the first place to check as suggested. They should be serviced though.

What is a mag heavy?
Sounds like a pool cue.

What is a mag heavy?
There are no standards in the industry. The descriptive terms are arbitrary and subjective. Only the person/company using the term can define it.

Suggestions for finesse baitcasting reel
you shouldn't have been charged to super tune a reel with a full floating spool design. The friction points polished are taken out of play in that design.

Core 100mg....a few questions.
The difference between gear ratios you're talking about is more about preference than suitability for the application. Don't sweat that. If the reels feel good use them a bit before servicing. The Carbontex drag is a nice upgrade and not expensive. They are easily dropped in when the reel gets opened for cleaning.

Airwaves microwave guide, looking for a rod tip
There's nothing special about the tip top on that. Order a 5.5 ring and most likely a 6 tube (6/64").
