  1. An over powered rod for any application will not load and cast as well or as accurately, may hinder lure action or presentation and lastly too fast an action may make it hard to keep fish buttoned up to land them.
  2. What is it about a rod that makes it a “skipping “ rod?
  3. Here’s the order of steps I would take to diagnose drag issues in any reel. Rule out: 1. Braid slipping 2. misassembled drag stack 3. contaminated drag washers 4. worn damaged washers
  4. This is spot on. Locking the drag down is unnecessarily hard on the reel rod line and knots.
  5. The bad translation in Chinese ads is mildly entertaining in itself.
  6. The orange seals are supposed to be non contact but aren’t always. Don’t bother trying to remove and reinstall them. Run them dry open or sealed. They’re a performance part. Slowing them down with oil to quiet them is like choking a performance vehicle with the stick exhaust. If sound trumps speed for you go with ABEC7 stainless with tsi 321
  7. A clean and lubricated AR is critical to a smooth retrieve as well as the AR function. They are definitely not designed to have friction. Only to mechanically lock to prevent back play. Cleaning and light oil solves 99% of AR issues
  8. There are rods labeled Frog, Swimbait, Pike/Musky, Flippin’, Inshore, Light Salt all with weight ranges to cover that range.
  9. Just look at a Curado schematic and look for anything that’s an obvious red flag. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to use a Curado part there. If this is more than you want to tackle let me know.
  10. I deal with them regularly. No complaints. Any delays I’ve noticed are easily attributed to current supply chain circumstances. Nothing like the NFC crapshoot
  11. Reels are not nearly as technique specific as rods, which is also over emphasized. At the root low capacity, lightweight spools start up easier to cast light baits better. Higher capacity heavier spools have more inertia to help bomb heavy baits a long way. Metal frames and good drag for heavy duty: large hard running fish and heavy cover. There are varying opinions and subtleties but this is a start.
  12. Outside of heavy vegetation the perceived advantage of braid is line handling and sensitivity. I choose by line diameter rather than lb test. Then there’s the whole leader debate. Hearing opinions with an open mind is a good idea but factor that with your own experience and do what feels right to you.
  13. It’s just that. A comparatively soft tip that leads quickly into the backbone. I’ve seen this in Steez rods I’ve worked on and to a lesser degree some castaways. They’re crisp to as you’d expect from the SCIV material The new website describes it as Mefium heavy extra slow but should read extra sensitive. At least it always did in the past.
  14. Grease the “dartanium” one and leave the carbon one dry (or not).
  15. Try the Rodgeeks C473 MHXS even though it’s labeled MH it’s 1/4-3/4 with a soft but fast tip. It’s a unique action that’s great for those applications
  16. Snug is all you need. Brass is easily stripped and like you said there’s a retainer.
  17. Let’s disregard the subjective term ML for a minute. What baits are you rigging? What other techniques and bait weights will you use it for?
  18. “best” rod, is subjective and personal preference and opinions vary so there’s no right or wrong. Personally, I relegate the highest modulus, light weight minimalist rods to bottom contact finesse fishing. That’s not to say that feeling a crank bait wobble or spinner bait thump has no benefit. I can accomplish that without the highest end components though.
  19. It’s not rocket science as they say and they all work off the same general principle. Many models have a “gottcha” somewhere. Go slow and pay attention. Put aside enough time to do the whole job. Things can get fuzzy over night.
  20. I think the spool not only starts up easier is slows more gradually which makes them actually easier to control. The fear of better freespool making a reel some unruly monster is irrational.
  21. The benefit of ceramic bearings depends on what you’re starting with and what you’re trying to accomplish. Compared to quality stock bearings like shimano uses that have been flushed and properly oiled, the difference is modest. Corrosion resistance and ease of casting are the main improvements. I find the easier casting improves accuracy and any gained distance is ancillary.
  22. There’s not that much that affects the spool tension. It’s entirely possible that the tension cap has been replaced with an ill fitting one. If the spindle is seated and the spacers are all there, the cap is where I’d concentrate. Use this link and see if the parts match what you see. The cap is discontinued. https://www.ereplacementparts.com/abu-garcia-6500-ambassadeur-parts-c-187196_187197_187496.html
  23. More concerning than be dunked is the brackish water. A deep clean and lube are strongly recommended.
