The SX & STX come in 6.4:1 or 7.1:1. The Premier is a 6.4:1. The STX and Premier use the Infini Spool free spool design and a coated pawl and pinon shaft. The Premier has alloy gears as opposed to brass making it the lightest of the three.

Baitcasting Reel Physics Question
I think your theory would apply to backlash resulting from spool inertia, but backlash can happen at the beginning or end of a cast. A lighter spool will start up quicker so may be a little more prone to backlash if the spool turns faster than the bait pulls off line. This is where your centrifugal brake comes into play.

Possible baitcasting reel defect?
In older reels the levelwind remained engaged and moved as the spool turned in either direction. This configuration is no longer used. There is nothing wrong with your reel.

Broken Reel Seat Help
Your not going to have a new reel seat put on that would take taking all of the guides off, cutting the old seat off and re-sizing an new seat on, and, that is done from the front to match the taper of the blank. If that is a Quantum rod then I would contact Quantum fishing, and, see what all has to be done to get the rod replaced. DO NOT epoxy your reel to the seat you will be sorry sooner or later... Just the .02¢ from an old custom rod builder.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! x2

x2 RW, maybe you should make a sticky thread of your suggestion. This comes up a lot.

Line capacity on spinning reels ?
If you really like the smaller spool and casting distance isn't a big concern, you could spool up with braid to counter the coiling. 80+ yard of line should be OK.

Fishing Rods with Broken (& Repaired) Tips??
This depends on the original specs & how much is cut-off. An inch or two off a 7'6" XF worm rod would probably leave you a usable rod for example.

Oil in Drag - Reel ruined?
In general, lightly grease gears, oil bearings sparingly with a light oil and grease drag washers with a drag grease like Shimano's or Cal's. Remove the drag washers and soak them in Simple Green, rinse and let dry. Grease with recommended grease and reinstall. If the drag doesn't perform after that, replace the fiber washers.

Rod Customizing
Delaware Valley Tackle replied to Bassin for Walleye's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsWhat are the current dimensions of the rod you want to modify? In swimmbasser's case, if you trim off too much the weight required to balance may add too much to the overall weight. IMO balance is a little subjective and takes a back seat to handle length and over all weight. The more detail, the better recommendations that can be made.
