  1. I fish them a lot in early to late spring. I throw them anytime I could throw a spinnerbait or crankbait. I prefer to make my own. Lots of fun and you can tailor them to your waters.
  2. Hot N trot, I talking about the 783 and 844. I held the 844c in my hand today and it was sweet. I almost jumped on it. It gets high praise around here. I guess I'm not convinced that I would get enough use out of it to justify the cost. I guess I'm with the original poster. I can't find anything that matters, to me at least, that the 783 can't do. The bait monkey thought he had me!
  3. I have the 783c and I love it. I read this post with great interest. As much as I have tried, I can't make a case of owning both. I too think the 783c makes the better all around rod. I would be interested in hearing from someone who owns both. How do you use them?
  4. Sorry folks. I didn't see that there was another post asking the same thing. I defer to that post. Sorry for the confusion.
  5. I mostly fish from the bank. The best tip I can give you is don't stay in one place too long. I move every 15 minutes if nothing is happening.
  6. I went through this process last year. I looked a the Loomis Frog Rods and decided against it. I have seven Loomis rods but for some reason, their frog rod did not strike me as a great value. I decided to start cheap so I went with a BPS rod, BNC66MHS. I fished it through some real tough lily pads and I never regretted my purchase. I caught a lot of fish with this rod last year.
  7. Why would you want to kill fish? :-?
  8. I hope this is my year to join the double digit club. I've never caught a bass that weight 10 more pounds. My biggest is right a 5 lbs. It will be hard to do here in Maryland. The freshwater record is still 11-2. If you are a member of the double digit club, how long had you be fishing (in years) before you joined the club?
  9. That was a good interview! I'd like to see more of these.
  10. I guess it all about what you are use to. At some point, you'll have to settle on something. I chose XL because it met 80% of my needs. I use braid for the other 20 percent. I use KVD line conditioner on my XL and feel it makes a difference.
  11. Well I use a palamar knot on everything. It's easy to tie and strong.
  12. I use the GMCO's Pro Series Map of the Tidal Potomac. I get it from Bass Pro. Pretty accurate as far as I can tell. I've used it from near Bolling AFB to Smallwood. Haven't gone past Smallwood.
  13. Lots of good ones out there. But really, it depends on what you enjoy about bass fishing. If you like tournament stuff, bassin is the not the magazine for you. If you want to follow the bassmaster master tour, then bassmasters is pretty good. I subscribe to Bassin and I really enjoy when it comes in the mail. As for Bassmasters....not so much!
  14. The Callisto was the first BC I owned. I like it and still use on occasion. It's next to the lowest quality in the Shimano line and it has plastic gears. It's cheap. But I learned how to throw a BC with the reel. It's a good starter BC.
  15. I don't find trailer hooks necessary. I do sharpen my hooks.
  16. I agree with the others. Build the baits for fun, not to save money.
  17. Try a Heddon Moss Boss.
  18. Brokejew, Why don't you call G-Loomis and ask about the warranty if you're concerned. I honestly don't think the GLX warranty is any different than the others. Follow this link to G-Loomis warranty page. http://www.gloomis.com/publish/content/gloomis/en/g__loomis_homepage/customerservice/warrantyinformation.html I can tell you this. I broke one my IMX rods Friday, so I just used the expeditor service and it is fantastic. Quick and no hassel.
  19. You can also access the expediter service on line. I just broke one my IMX rods. I expect to see my new rod by Tuesday or Wednesday.
  20. What do you mean? The Potomac is a top-notch bass fishery. Bassmaster Magazine rated it in the top 10 of all bass fisheries.
  21. Try the Spro. I throw em all the time. I like the Zoom Horny Toads too. A great one-two punch.
  22. Both is better but if you can't have both, then go with the rod first. IMPO, a good reel with a bad rod gets you nothing. Where as a good rod with an ok reel gives you some benefits. Lighter, stronger, more sensitive, etc.
  23. Well I don't think Luke meant anything by his actions. It did look like he was joking around. But jokes can have consequences. If my son is throwing rocks and he accidently breaks a window, he is still liable for the consequences. Not so with Luke. He was joking around and there was no consequence to his actions. It appears from the UMF response, they believe we take the show too serious. I wonder what they would think if we stop watching it.
  24. You won't see it here next year. It think it'll be several years, if ever.
  25. Nanjemoy Creek. It was a good win for Skeet. The crowd went nuts when he won. I thought Kelly Jordon was going to pull it out again. But Skeet proved too much for him. The tour is skipping the Potomac next year. Who knows if they will ever come back. I'm told the anglers don't like the Potomac. Tripp Weldon presented a key local organizer a gift on behalf of Bassmaster. Sounded final to me. Small crowd there yesterday. About enough to fill two normal size bleacher section.
