  1. It depends on the reel, line, thrower, what your brakes are set at on the baitcaster, etc etc... In most cases you can probably cast a little lightweight soft plastic farther with a spinning reel. Now note that I said in MOST cases. Some guys may know their equipment well enough to fling that thing out farther with a baitcaster than a spinning reel.
  2. The citica (usually $120 but may be able to find cheaper) is an excellent reel. I actually have the older version (201 D) but anyone will tell you that the citica is probably the best for that price. I recently bought the cabelas prodigy reel for $100 and the berkley AMP rod for $30. The reel is excellent but the rod is not the most sensitive but I'm using it for crankbaits and spinnerbaits anyways so it don't matter too much.
  3. To peg with a toothpick you just let the weight slide down to the worm then stick a toothpick into the open hole on the weight and push it in a little bit then break it off. The reason for pegging weights is so the sinker doesnt slide way ahead of the worm and get snagged somewhere or lessen the sensitivity of the rig. Most people prefer to peg their weights in weeds, rocks basically anywhere but there are times where people prefer to not peg their weights but it's just a personal thing
  4. You might wanna try heavier line...it might help. But I know when I got the lines I would stick a needle through and make it loose enough I could pull it through with my fingers. It never seemed to weaken the line and it sure made the job a lot easier
  5. Yeah I'm just out fishing for fun and don't plan on doing any tournaments so I'll just keep it on but if I have too many break off's I'll buy some heavier and maybe put that 10lb on my panfish rod or keep the rest for backing or something.
  6. There have been a few positive comments so maybe I'll leave it on there and if I'm fishing heavy rocks I'll tie on a stronger leader or something.
  7. I got a new rod and reel for crankbaits/spinnerbaits/lipless baits/etc...and I grabbed some line on my way out and happened to grab some Trilene XL in 10lb test. I didn't realize until I got home that I probably just made a stupid mistake in grabbing 10lb line because it is so thin and I may be fishing around rocks 40%-50% of the time. If it is too thin I will just add a 15lb leader to it or something but what do you guys think.
  8. I'm pretty sure Ike has one for cranking. I believe he almost lost it in the lake once...I have one that came as a $60 combo at walmart that I was skeptical about but seriously, $60 bucks? It actually turned out pretty nice. The rod is a little stiff for what I want it for but it gets the job done.
  9. I believe since they got more money, the bait monkey feels he has to talk that guy into getting more pointless unneeded baits
  10. I was gonna say it could work as a jig combo but most prefer a longer rod...it could still work as a jig rod just dont use it in heavy cover
  11. I haven't used those particular lures but I have used their grave diggers which I love. Actually caught my biggest walleye. He's lookin good on the wall right now.
  12. I really like the PowerPro braid. It is very strong, sensitive, I can't say anything bad about it. Well okay, there is one problem I had. The line I had was a whole summer old and was loosing it's color and I had a crankbait on my spinning rod trying to get it as far away from shore as possible and I really gave the rod a snap and my line fell slack to the water and my lure was just about to the other side of the river > . I believe it was either 12-15 pound test but never had a problem until I snapped the line so hard. I have 30 pound on one of my baitcaster and have never had that problem so just be careful with the lighter line.
  13. I got the tourney trail for spinning and I think it is a great rod. I don't have any ugly sticks but I really like all cabela's rods I've ever gotten.
  14. Well the one with weeds to the top I would definitely recommend some frogs, maybe some spinnerbaits, some plastic worms, and some jigs and other weedless lures. Crankbaits probably wouldn't work the best unless there is some open paths. For the one with the muddy bottom, try some plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, pretty much anything you want but try and find some kind of cover like rocks, weeds, points, etc...
  15. I just found an old duffle bad downstairs that I think can hold 7 or 8 plano tackle bags.
  16. Is that reel on the far right missing a handle?
  17. Alright, RobE I follow you so far and will probably just give it a shot and just put tape in the end first to make sure I like it. You don't have put the pictures up if you don't want to I'll just play around and actually the space is fairly big and might play around with other things in the end. But thantks for all the help.
  18. RobE, that is exactly what I'm talking about with the rim of the shotshell. I'm surprised you understood that cuz after reading over it it didn't make much sense to me! But if you could gets some pictures or just tell me the sights that would be great. And the grip is foam but it has something else in the end but I just plan on putting the rim of the shotshell on something then glueing it into the base or something. I just wanted to see some pictures to see if it would be worth it.
  19. Maybe I didn't word it well. What I'm looking for is like a little picture to put at the end of your rod in the butt (don't know how else I could word it, sorry) like on the other thread I saw coins in there and like I mentioned like a shotgun part. Hopefully this clears things up a little. I'm not looking to balance it.
  20. I saw a topic before that I thought was pretty interesting but now I can't find it. It had to do with putting things into the butt of the rod to customize it a little bit and I wanted some more pictures and ideas of what to do. I kind of want to put a shotgun shell thing in it but need to find a way to cut the piece off. Any help and pictures would be appreciated.
  21. I started using the drop shot last year and still need some help. Whenever I would feel that tick-tick, I'd reel in the slack then set the hook but would miss the fish. I had to wait until the line started moving to set the hook and I was just wondering if that is what you were actually supposed to do or if I was doing something wrong
  22. Was reeling in a crankbait of some sort and got some grass on it so I brought it up and took the grass off. Opened the bail and noticed I had left a string of grass hanging off so i grabbed it with my middle finger and ring finger and went to cast and "Son of a *****" Luckily it didn't go past the barb but it still didn't feel too good
  23. I absolutely loved the T-1's! With the titanium frame, you never have to adjust it. Quite expensive, but we found them on sale and they were awesome. I lost both though...didn't know it was possible to loose a spinnerbait!! ;D
  24. I got a couple ultralight rods from cabelas last year I think...they were $30 dollars but they are only about 4-5 feet long so that's not quite what youre looking for but...
