This Doesn't Seem Right..
I just got this exact email from a Craigslist listing on my trolling motor. Looking forward to having some fun with this.

Fuse Change
I replied to their email they sent me about the 10 gauge being ok to use under 20 feet asking if that was 20 foot one way or if I needed to calculate in twice that and if so, would 10 still work. Waiting on a reply from them to see what they say. Probably going to go ahead and upgrade the wiring just in case.

Thanks for the replies. Not blowing any fuses at this point. Just upgrading a trolling motor and want to make sure I have everything suitable to run it.

Upgrading Trolling Motor
Thanks for the reply. MK said my 10awg wire will work as long as I don't go over 20 ft. My boat is only a 16ft boat. Should I bother upgrading the wire if that's the case or can I just leave it alone and just upgrade the fuse?

Fuse Change
I currently have a 40 amp inline fuse running with my 10 AWG wiring and was informed by Minn Kota that my 10 gauge wire would work with my new 24v 70# trolling motor but I would need to put a 50 amp fuse on. My question is can I just take the 40 amp fuse out of the holder and replace with a 50 amp fuse or do I need a new holder as well? If I need to replace the holder too, would I be better off with a 50 amp circuit breaker or stick with a fuse? Thanks, Stephen

Doesn't matter how or how much you win by, what matters is you have more points than the other team. We didn't "get lucky" at all, we played with a passion and put everything on the field to win that game. We didn't win because UGA "lost the game" we won because we won the game! And clearly you have forgotten how much it took for clemson to EARN those points to beat LSU. One point, 100 points, a win is a win.

Upgrading Trolling Motor
Thanks for all the help so far. I've got the trolling motor on the way, will be here next week and I'll grab the batteries then too. Currently, my wiring is 10AWG wiring with a 40amp fuse with my 12v 45# trolling motor. Am I going to need to upgrade the 10AWG to 8 or 6 gauge? Do I need a larger fuse? Also what type of wiring do I need to hook the batteries up in series? If wiring/fuse upgrade is needed, where is the best place to find the type I need?

Stomach virus..ha. Everyone runs to that excuse. Probably had a stomach virus last year all those times opposing players said he took plays off cause he was tired. You certainly can't blame the weather for your defense being tired since you practiced in the SAME type of weather all offseason. Just saying, 3 tackles and 3 "hurries" does not make you a Heisman winner that everyone was already crowning him to be.

Ran his mouth more than his legs during the offseason, simple as that. Ain't no one afraid of him like he thinks they are.

Would two EverStart 27DC-6 Marine Batteries (from walmart) be sufficient for a Maxxum 70 or should I bump up to Group 29 (not all that sure on the difference to be honest)?

Decreasing Trolling Motor Shaft Length
So I've been looking around for a good trolling motor so I can upgrade my 45# to something bigger and I've come across a MK Powerdrive V2 65# with a 60" shaft with corded Co-pilot for a good price locally. My question is, can I decrease the 60" shaft by cutting it or some other way? Will this hurt it at all? A 60" shaft is too long for my boat as I need about a 42" shaft. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Maxxum 70 looks like what I'm going after. Now I just need to wait to find a good sale on it so I can afford it and two batteries!

Is the variable speed worth the extra ~$150?

Upgrading Trolling Motor
Hey guys, Right now I've got a 12v Minn Kota Edge 45# trolling motor on my 16' procraft bass boat. Needless to say, I can't fish in any sort of wind and it barely moves me without wind. I'm contemplating upgrading to the Edge 70# 24v (if I don't break the bank doing it) and I had a couple questions. Will I have to fully unmount the entire 45# (including mount) before I mount the 70# or will the 70# work on the same mount that I currently have since they are both MK Edges? I've got one 12v battery powering the 45# so I know I'd need another 12v to run in series for a 24v 70#. Do I need to get two of the same batteries or can I just go pick up a new one to add to my existing one (couple years old now)? Any suggestions on batteries? I've got a 2 bank onboard charger. With the batteries in series, if I put one bank of the charger on one, will it charge both batteries or will I need a 3 bank charger to charge all three batteries (2xTM and cranking)? Thanks for the help and sorry for all the questions.

Outboard Issues
Hey yall, Please excuse any terms used that are not very technical. I'm a fairly new boat owner and I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to outboards. I've got an issue, however. I'm gone working all summer in a different state, so I haven't seen the issue in person, but my brother is using my boat and had the problem. My motor is a 2001 Mercury 90hp ELPTO. Here is how my brother explained it to me: "I have no idea WHERE it was leaking from, but when I would try to crank it, it would spit out a light rainbow film onto the water from underneath the water and it smelled like gas...then on the last 2 cranks some bubbles popped up that were black in color and when i touched them, it looked like burnt up oil on my fingers...i checked the oil level and it appeared to be good. i could never see where the leaks came from even once we pulled it out of the water, but some black dripped down from the motor onto the support thing that keeps the motor up off trailer. i have not taken the cover off because i dont know what im looking at. i never got it to turn over. it wasnt much oil...but it was enough to make me say NOPE and trailer back up...i know SOME gas leaks out no matter what when the engine has to be cranked a couple times but this was a LOT. Some attempts at cranking were with choke, some without. Fuel bulb stayed firm." Some things to consider: Before this, the boat had been taken out once about a week or so before this happened and it cranked and ran fine for a while. He fished and tried to crank to head back in and she wouldn't crank. No leakage, just would not crank. Jumped the cranking battery (which he did fully charge beforehand) and got it started but it was tough to start. I thought maybe the battery was going bad. Then he goes out and has this leakage issue and it won't crank. Before that trip, the boat had not been run since mid-May and during that period of it not running we had about a month's straight worth of rain. My boat cover had ripped and was not able to be replaced at the time, so during that rain the motor was exposed to the rain and trimmed up. Any ideas on what could be wrong or what I can check? Thanks, Stephen

$140 Cast
Interesting you bring that up...not a scratch on the jerkbait. Definitely could have been worse. It's hard to tell this from the pic, but the only physical damage you can feel externally is a small circular hole I figure was from a treble hook, and since the unit still functions fine with only the depth reading being slightly covered (still readable), I figure I'll leave it until it absolutely needs to be repaired. By then, maybe I'll have some funds to upgrade, who knows.

$140 Cast
The cast that is going to cost me $140... Went for a quick, long cast, and the jerkbait ended up hitting the fishfinder at the console, puncturing and cracking it. Unit still works, but to get it fixed it's going to be $140. Ouch. Worst part? No fish came from the cast.

Upstate Sc, North East Ga, Western Nc Anglers
If I'm in the state at that time, I'd be happy to take you out too. I'm a student at Clemson, so Keowee & Hartwell are easily accessible. I'm waiting to hear about a job that may take me out of the state for the summer, but if that falls through, I'll let you know and maybe we can hit up the lakes.

Starting The Year Off Right In South Carolina
Nice fish! Being from Columbia, I've fished the Broad a couple times and those smallies are so aggressive and fight so hard, it's awesome. Good luck down at Santee Cooper, let us know how you did.
