  1. If nothing is lighting up, it sounds like an open main ground connection. How are you testing?
  2. oh come on, dude. That is a completely separate issue and it certainly does not justify discrediting ALL scientists' opinions about EVERYTHING... No, but a scientist's stamp on some topic doesn't mean I will gulp down quarts of koolaid. What happened to the end of the world, this winter, from flu?
  3. To be any better, he would have to pick up the reel and pay you to service it.
  4. I'm zeroing in on the Humminbird 917c., with Hotmaps Prem. It's not clear what all I need to be "operational", meaning added cost. I think maybe a GPS antenna, transducer, cables(?), mounting bracket. The next jump in technology (3D or SI) is too big a big jump in price for me. What are your thoughts on this model and manufacture?
  5. Choke Canyon Boy; The 957 is a nice looking unit. The list price difference between 917 and 957 is $300. The only feature difference I see is twice the sonar rms power; 500 vs 1000. Is that power increase important enough for 300 clams? Where did you buy?
  6. This has been one of the most difficult products I have ever researched. Is there a performance difference between internal/external antenna? What do external antenns look like? Cost? Looking at Humminbirds, I don't see where 'not included software' is needed, or costs. I look at pictures of SI and it makes no sense; is the view on it's side?
  7. When I lived in Maine in the early 70's the people up there did not fish for Bass. They treated anyone who did, like Carp fishermen. The Big Dogs fished with huge cannon Ball down riggers for lake trout and salmon. I had to hide my sunnies, or they would cut my tires. LOL
  8. Thanks for the help guys. I looked at down loading an emulator. The list of programs must have been 20, or more, with labels that made no sense. I need to know more before going there. I spoke with a very knowledgeable sales guy at BPS Harrisburg, Pa. I need to see him again. Maybe I'll stop there when visiting the Pa Sportsman's Show next month. I'll check out the sites recommended here to gain a little more smarts. Thanks
  9. Where are these baits found?
  10. Take the word of Scientist? That brings to mind the Global Warming BS. Never forget to check on who will get the money.
  11. I want to move my present depth finder to the bow and get a nice unit for the cockpit. I having a big problem with manufactures marketing names for the products. For instance, Lowrance has different map programs that do not carry good descriptions. I can look up a map list, but what is displayed for that particular lake? What comes as included....they give me a model name, but whats in it? I'm slowly adjusting to the big price tags, but don't what to buy more than I need. How do you guys sort all the crap out? Side imaging; what does it do for you? I'm a bit frustrated.
  12. I have fished out of a guide's jet outboard twice on the Susky (north branch). He has a 225hp. It fly's. I see no need for any more power on the river. We were ripping up the river...I felt like I was on my Harley. I asked about sharp turns. He did one for me. There is a pucker factor involved as we did a dirt track type thing. I would go for one in a heart beat, especially where we live and fish. It would be good for our lakes, seeing that we don't have to rip off a 25 mile run to get to a spot to fish. I have a new rig and was thinking of a convert to jet, but it didn't seem like a smart move.
  13. What would you suggest for a good camera to use for fish shots aboard a boat. Something that could take splashed water, wet hands, knocks and bumps, but still take sharp catch photos.
  14. It had to be in the mail;..... God would not do that to a man just getting a reel back that needs trying out. ;D
  15. I had my 25 year old Shimano reel upgraded and cleaned by the Reel mechanic. It arrived in the mail today, and so did 4" of snow, so I haven't tried it out as yet. I do want to point out that he communicates with the customer at every step. Such as; received reel, checked reel out and here is what's needed, work done and the cost is, received your check & reel is shipping, reel shipped. I hate when something is sent out to what seems like a dark hole and you wait hopefully for it to show up again. The reel looks good. Seems very free and has a machine oil scent. I see a big fish in it's future.
  16. I'm looking for the women to teach me.
  17. E-Mail Playboy. I bet they are experts !!!
  18. I bought a fist full of welding rods for aluminum at an engine show. They demo'd coke cans and bar stock being welded with a propane torch. Worked real well. If I punch a hole in my boat, that will be what I turn to.
  19. I heard today that it was a jack plate failure (Bob's?) which has triggered a recall. The fellow in the water is said to have loss a leg below the knee. Both are improving. I guy in the boat that held onto him, even with all his broken bones, must be a tough dude.
  20. If not notified and offered a chance to cancel within 30 days, there is a huge federal fine imposed on mail order companies.
  21. With a charger mounted on board boat, can it remain connected in the battery circuit when not charging? The idea is to just connect AC power when dockside and not have to fuss with changing DC connections.
  22. A boat yard ordered a "U" bracket, for me, that will be bolted to my transom for mounting a small outboard engine. This will be mounted to the port side of the main engine and used for hp restricted lakes and trolling. It seems straight forward. Are there any gotchas or heads-up I should be aware of? This is on a 17' tin boat.
  23. Go Cabelas. They rock.
  24. Looks like you are standing in the water. ;D
