Extra fast vs. Fast
And to the point that some company's fast is actually faster than another company's Xfast. Bottom line is that it's personal preference. You can make intelligent arguments for either one... and there are subtle advantages and disadvantages to both. The reason that there is a debate is that both are good choices in this application.

This might be a tough one..
I agree with that... but soley based on the techniques listed, my personal preference would be a XFast.

Clunn goes with.......Wright and McGill???
While it may not be 100% honest, it's sure an accepted practice. How much advertising is 100% honest? Very little that I see. I can tell you with 100% certainty that many of the rods and reels are NOT what you buy off the shelf. But the masses will never see or notice a difference. Many of the reels are the same basic reels, but upgraded and tuned... rods vary from OE parts built by a master builder to complete customs with decals and color schemes that match the factory rods. This is just one reason I would never buy equipment based on a spokesman or pro user. sorry to stray off topic.

You guys are making the assumption that he'll be using equipment straight off the rack. I sincerely doubt it.

want to try rodbuilding
I build along the spine. Here is my take... until someone can prove beyond any shadow of doubt that building along the spine is detrimental to the rod's performance or longevity I will continue to do it this way. Why? Simple, I can't prove that it doesn't help, it's part of my build routine and the trigger to line up & mark all the parts. And since the authorities only say they can't prove it helps, they obviously can't prove that it doesn't. The truth is that is you and I don't know with certainty that it does or does not benefit the build. But as long as there is that possibility, I'll spend the 2 minutes needed to get out the jig and mark it. Ninemiller- Actually if you want to talk physics, it does impact a rod's casting performance. It might be smaller than you or I can measure but that doesn't make it go away. For the record, I also consider Tom K and those guys to be authorities on the subject... but that doesn't make everything they say accurate. Build trends, component choices and techniques have evolved- and with that, their opinions have changed. Remember, these are the very same guys that used to say that building along spine was the only correct method. Edited to add: to the OP- I think casting rods are easier to build than spinning rods, for new builders. Guide placement takes less learning on a basic casting rod than spinning.

0% interest credit cards
The "catch" is that many people will use the card after the introductory period. Most people say they will pay it off and cut it up after the 0% runs out but according to (someone I know who works for one of) the big card companies, few really do- so they more than make up for a couple people using it short term with a lot of people keeping it after.

Cosigning a college loan???
Glenn, Yes, I am sorry for the pimp comment- I knew it crossed the line of good judgement when I wrote it. I will edit that post to correct. As for misinterpreting the OP, I thought I might have- until I read his follow up post: I'll leave it here as I have no desire to discuss the impact on credit ratings.

Cosigning a college loan???
What if she is the one who has to provide the funding for your nursing home care someday? I'd take out long term care insurance, just in case, it's inexpensive while you are still young and won't affect your credit!! ;D

Dual Pro Chargers and wholesalemarine.com
Very true, the unit lasted great, no complaint there... but like in anything else- 16 years later there is usually options with different/better features. My old Abu reels were fine but the CH50MG's and Curado's were a nice change.

American Jet Skier killed on Lake Falcon
There have already been reports of that happening, which is why this is so freakin' maddening!

American Jet Skier killed on Lake Falcon
A few things... Officials are doing very little. They say stay out of mexico. No kidding. > It ticks me off to no end how this crap is (not) handled. People are getting shot, shot at, chase by PIRATES, some reportedly into US waters and we do nothing but put a sign up at the ramp- stay in US waters. The twisting, winding creek channel is the boundary... so a jet ski w/o a gps couldn't know where he was. Heck, fisherman with maps have been crossing accidentally. A buoy line that loosely follows the creek would be a relatively cheap way to actually do something. We should have armed border patrol boats running the line to deter the banditos. edited to add: If they were getting shot at as they fled back to US waters, don't you think the stray bullets were flying into the USA??? And yet we just let it happen. :-X

Dual Pro Chargers and wholesalemarine.com
Yes, in fact the one I am replacing is a recon unit. I really wanted to see if there were better chargers out there these days... I remember a thread from about 2 years ago where decalsification (sp?) was discussed extensively and if I remember correctly, another brand was thought to be a better charger for longevity of batteries. Just doing my homework before shelling out the cash. Thanks, keith

The Carolina Rig - weakness is the knots? Does it matter to you?
Knots are important... I pre tie my leaders with swivels and hooks at home and bring a zip lock of them rolled up and ready. So when I have to re-tie for any reason, I just tie on the new leader and I'm ready just as quick as any re-tie. Pre tying allows you to take a few minutes and make sure the knots are all perfect while not on the water wasting time.

When do you peg your T-rigged and why?
Ok, so other than your preference to not be pegged, and my preference of being pegged, we don't appear to actually fish it differently. I still pop it in the grass and make some racket as I fish it most of the time. I asked the follow up because I thought you were saying you could do things with it unpegged that we couldn't do pegged. Thanks for clarifying.

When do you peg your T-rigged and why?
Catt- Can you explain your rationale for me? Just having your weight moving on mono isn't making any extra noise, is it? If you rattle it in the tree it might make a some but I think my pegged weight makes as much or more noise as I can clack it on rocks or timber as well. And if you pull your worm over the eye of the hook (as most do) you get no contact noise with the weight and hook. What am I not "seeing"? Silent isn't a word I'd use to describe my worm fishing. (unless I'm really trying to be quite) A c-rig is quite different, as we have beads and tickers along with weights...

Question reference my status.
I think that was his entire question. "Was a junior member" and now he isn't. Long night in the ER?

Dual Pro Chargers and wholesalemarine.com
After 16 years, my on board charger finally quit. I am thinking that I'll buy another Dual Pro (it's the correct size and shape for replacing the old one) but want to see if there are others that might be a better unit. Is there another unit that is substantially better? Enough so to justify rearranging my mounting of batteries and fuel tank/etc. Also, anyone familiar with wholesalemarine.com? Prices are almost to good. Thanks

Swim Bait's/Who's are better?
I'm curious... did you re-create the fish poses or do you cut off your lures with each fish caught and cooler both of them together, for the pic later?
-
When do you peg your T-rigged and why?
I peg all the time, regardless of cover. You will snag much less often, but I also believe you hook a greater percentage of fish that pick it up, when pegged.

crankbait info needed
All the baits that work consistently well on this particular body of water have a tight wobble. Anything with a wide wobble has been mediocre at best.... even when bouncing off the timber. I wish I knew why. Thanks for the suggestions, I have some research to do now.
-
crankbait info needed
I rarely fish crankbaits, so I need some suggestions from you crankers... I need some crankbaits that have a real tight wobble and get through brush/cedar/timber better than most. (yes I know I'll hang up occasionally but some lip designs are said to be better in brush) What brands and models are going to best fit that description? Or separately which ones have the tight wobble and what type lips do better in the trees? Thanks!

LET IT BE KNOWN THAT CATT WILL BE THE FIRST
If it wasn't Catt, I'd cry foul. ...lol Is there an eta on production or a release date set?
