new crankin rod
preference. The weight of glass is actually helpful of you are throwing big deep divers since the weight of the rod will help cushion the vibration and offset some of the resistance. As far as performance, I like graphite, it's more sensitive and actions can be had that mimic glass but with less weight and more sensitivity. The drawback is cost on good graphite cranking rods.

My New Custom Swimbait Rod Built by ALPSTER
Great looking rod! I like understated. Let the "flashyness" show in performance. Enjoy!

G. Loomis, fragile?
Yup $10 per guide is "rather cheap." (at blowout price) That still doesn't work. Gold Cermets w/ SS frames are still more expensive than Ti framed SiC's. And did you even look at the description of the SS Gold Cermets- where it says "frosted"-which doesn't match your pic and "Discontinued" which doesn't suit All Star. The SS ones are long out of production, there are like 2 places on earth that have any- and they only have a couple since it's been so long ag that they quit making them. Because when I used the production manager as my source, you still didn't believe me. I though an up to date confirmation would be believable. Yes, the ad says it had "FUJI ALUMINUM OXIDE GUIDES" and so do the production manager, director of manufacturing, customer service personnel and the people building them. The ad has 2 pictures and one written description... 2 of the 3 are Fuji aluminum oxide and the other is NOT EVEN A FREAKING FUJI GUIDE- they didn't used to use Fuji. it's the old Amtak guide. So you are relying on a picture that doesn't match any of the Gold Cermet pictures or descriptions and one outdoor life writer's probable typo, over common sense and All Star's written words, and spoken words of their production manager, director of manufacturing, customer service personnel and the people building them? you are either a troll or really want to push my buttons for some unknown reason. I'm out of this- enjoy fantasy land.

I don't know yet, it would depend on several factors.

21 & 1/2 Inches on 1 Inch Grub
I hope that came out wrong... I don't know you but I can't think you meant it as it sounds. That's actually some of the most racist thinking I've ever seen posted here on BassResource.com. Fish were put here for our consumption. Recreational considerations were a few thousand years later. Lets at least give other people the benifit of the doubt. Not too many amish executives out there pulling 6 figure salaries, they might really need those fish for the table. They won't get all the fish, so use that pond/lake as a place to sharpen your skills. Surely you can outfish cane poles and worms? Maybe we should use cane poles and worms if they took all the "monsters" out... Is it a public lake? Maybe the Amish are mad at you for invading their favorite fishing spot.... they probably think you should go elsewhere, you throw them back, they need dinner. Just a thought.

RW, They call it a fast action in the link but if I remember that rod was more like a mod... am I remembering a different rod or is that the one you have?

G. Loomis, fragile?
Sorry Mods, for my part of the thread hijack, I deleted my other responses that were off topic. The GLX rods carry the same warranty as the IMX. It is probably the second best written warranty on earth and the service to back it up is even better than the written version. Just to clarify this whole ridiculous debate on All Star guides: Two picture comparisons.... Look closely at the link you provided: http://www.allstarrods.com/as_teambigboys.html The pic of the new rods clearly show dark colored inserts. Not gold cermets. I say the close up of the guide is an old pic, not changed when they went to aluminum oxide. No look at the 2 styles of gold cermet casting guides: http://shop.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/Gold-Cermet/TILNGG-Titanium-Gold-Cermet-Casting-Guide http://shop.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/Gold-Cermet/TINGG-Spin-Cast-Guides Notice 2 things... neither are polished chrome finish like the All Star Pic and neither match the All Star pic. (click the guide for a close up pic.) ______________________________________________________________________________ And the trump card: I called All Star this morning. According to their customer service (Melissa) the guides used on Big Boy rods are in fact Aluminum Oxide. No hard feelings, just the facts.

I send out for almost all of my decal work - Decal Connection. I email what I want and about $4 each and 3 days later it's in my mailbox. They can do just about anything, text or graphic for a reasonable fee. I use the "new waterslide" paper. It's tough... and easy to work with. I also use the setting solution.

Dodgeguy- are you still keeping logs? I'm hoping you'll share how your catch totals have changed since changing from braid. You mentioned that when you switched to braid you weren't sure if this year was just slower.... since you changed back mid-year, maybe you have a better feel for the difference (if any) you experienced. Thanks!

what do u think about michael vick?
I agree with that 100% If it were you or I that pleaded guilty to those crimes, we would do jail time (several years), pay huge fines and LOSE OUR JOBS. Why shouldn't he get the same treatment that any "regular" guy would get? I think that if he does his time and pays his "debt to society" then he should be free to seek employment... in other words once his punishment is served, I think that's it, and he should be allowed to return to work... just like and subject to all the hardships any other ex-con would face. If the NFL has other guidelines surrounding image and behavoir that if that rules him out of returning, so be it, he can work a regular job like the rest of us.

Best Baitcaster Under $250
The last post reminded me of something. I was looking into the curado 100DSV early this spring and had a conversation with one of the Shimano marketing managers about them. He went "off the record" and strongly suggested I get the Citica 100DSV... there is almost no difference.

VALUES
I do know what you are talking about.... there are always a few suggestions like you point out sprinkled in but really, that's not the majority when a budget is specified. There are times when people do the opposite and suggest low end gear for larger specified budgets. Those just get overlooked, just as the higher priced suggestions should. I always try to give good suggestions at or under the listed budget. If I go over, it's qualified and disclaimed with reasoning. I guess that's what caused me to 'jump' to a response. I'll try to react slower next time, sorry about that. ...lol

VALUES
No matter who uses or endorses what, I will never encourage someone to go outside their budget to buy fishing gear. And while I'm on principal, I'll never apologize for any gear I own, regardless of how ridiculously overpriced it may seem to some or actually may be. I don't control or influence anyone's budget but my own. I'll end with this- my truck and boat are paid for... what most guys spend a month in truck/boat payments will cover the cost of a new loomis, shimano reel, tackle and fuel, every month. Not wrong, just different.

VALUES
Any gear is a tool, high end gear- nicer tools. Nice tools cost a lot, basic tools do not. Fishing gear is no different than most tools. Let's keep in in perspective here... NO ONE has said that you have to have high $$ gear. Many of us say something like: "if you can afford XXX i'd recommend XXX" or similar. You know me well enough to know that I OFTEN recommend All Star Classics (among some others) that only cost $30-$40. And that from a guy who builds custom rods. Now, 2 things I do want to make clear... Just because you can catch fish and have fun on anything, does not take away from how good certain rods and reels are... and in many cases the higher $$$ gear is better. (not necessary, just better) The other side of this coin is that just a few months ago there were TONS of threads saying that budget gear is all you need. This is one of those seasonal trends that goes back and forth with every few hundred new members.

On Board Charger 2 or 3 Bank???
That was my thinking for years.... but my next charger will be a 3 bank. (one with a trickle for the 3rd) There seems to be 1 or 2 times a year that I either forget a switch or several weeks of bad weather keep me inside and I wish I had the cranking batt on a charger/mantainer. The one time expense of the charger would outweigh the "cost" of those times. ...lol

St. Croix 4C70HF
This was built back in the spring but I never posted any pics... I put batteries in the camera last night a shoot a few. This rod has become a favorite for so many techniques, that I plan to build another one if I ever get caught up. After looking at the pics, I forgot to wipe it off. ...lol specs: -4C70HF blank -burnt burl split grip with laguna accents -Fuji ECS seat (I never went back and smoothed the check!) -Ti SiC guides -cobalt thread (no CP) with 3 single turn inlays of silver (I love the inlays but I HATE counting wraps when putting them in!)

I need to apologize...........
I am betting that Deb considered her family's feelings before posting, but she still felt the need to post. Locking or deleting this thread only censors her (unless SHE asks for that) why would you want to stop her from saying what she feels like needs to be said? Her apology appears to be directed toward her husband and son (this is only my read) as much as the forum. I think you might want to give her a little more credit for knowing what she's doing. Besides, she can delete her posts with a single click of the mouse.
