  1. I think any lake would be open to consideration but the issues (using last year as a template) are on-water lodging, slips, boat rentals, guides and facilities (large enough to accomodate mass meals and social hour) Fork is always an option so lets see what else can compare. Any specifics on Clear Lake, Guntersville, Powell, etc? I was hoping to see Alan Henry (TX) in the running but unfortunately, I don't think it has enough infastructure to support us yet... Brent or anyone from the area, can you tell us differently?
  2. The warranty is better on the Loomis!!
  3. In the St. Croix Premier line, there are several 2 pc. rods. PC60MLF2 6' ML Fast 2pc. 4 - 10 1/8 - 1/2 3.7 2 $100.00 PC66MF2 6' 6" M Fast 2pc. 10 - 17 1/4 - 3/4 4.0 3 $110.00 PC66MHF2 6' 6" MH Fast 2pc. 10 - 20 3/8 - 1 4.6 3 $110.00 PC70HF2 7' H Fast 2pc. 12 - 25 1/2 - 1 1/2 5.4 4 $130.00
  4. I know it's a little early to get this going, but we have a lot of people who will need to start saving some travelling money. (to those who haven't started saving- this is your reminder!!) There was some discussion (on and after the last trip) about changing lakes. I was hoping that we could start to have some dialog on possible lakes. I like Fork but it is hard to get around if you are an out-of-towner and don't have a guide. Maybe we can debate our way to 4 or 5 lakes with the kind of fishing and accomodations we need and then use a poll to vote on the winner. ? Just "thinking out loud" and wondering if there are other lakes that would serve the group better. Lake parameters? Something south (or warm), good fishing, accomodations for large groups, ?, ?, ?, what else?
  5. No, you are paying $250 for the only reel made thats tough enough to be a true swimbait reel that comes in a few 1/10's of an ounce heavier than a 50MG. Do you really want/need more than 6 bearings??? I only want 4 well placed bearings, butter is for toast. Pick a brand- all the light reels are $$$. The weight is the hardest thing to shed. Besides, it's about the price of a 50 MG. Side note: I just dropped a couple in the cart and Cabela's shows it on backorder.
  6. barry bonds and roids changed the outcome of more games than Pete Rose's bets... I'd like to see a lifetime suspension at one HR. shy of the record. He's a disgrace.
  7. And that doesn't change if said customer sells it- since it was "made to order, for an individual customer", regardless of current ownership. That's my $0.02. The real difference, at least in my mind, is more on value... custom made for you is probably not perfect for me, so it might not be as valuable to the second owner. (especially if it's personalized.) But also knowing it was made to a different standard could increase the value in a used custom rod.
  8. I'd bet it's a Pac Bay guide... the mud hole catalog lists them. I'll be surprised if they aren't sold before you finish them.
  9. This is one of the few absolute truths in fishing.
  10. Even if you get bad mileage in your truck, you are talking about 1 hr's pay in gas money... that beats the heck out of a crap job. And you'll make up the gas money in the discounted purchases you make. Of course you need to have a crap job a while to understand how bad it could be. ...lol I think you can trust us on this one.
  11. Actually if you spend some time in the Outings section of the site, you will see that "eyeballing" the fish is the best way!! While scales can be accurate on record class fish, it appears that the combination of eye and arm gives the angler a better chance of achieving what he desires. ;D
  12. Glad to see that! Hide and watch the blessings continue to rain in! That's some of the best advice you will get... except next time, buy an IMX. ...lol j/k
  13. Sounds like you used heavier than needed line on a spinning reel...
  14. Anyone involved in dog fighting is sick and should be punished. Anyone who can't see the difference between hunting and dog fighting should be smacked, to knock the cobwebs out.
  15. I use it on my spinning reels. I have only good things to say... it's strong, abrasive resistant, well behaved and priced right, for a general purpose line it's hard to beat. If you are going into really clear water, you might consider yo-zuri hybrid ultra soft... it's everything above and even less visable. But buy it by diameter, not # rating and use 6# instead of 8# (both the same strength but different diameter)
  16. Gordon, Look at the charts on Yo-Zuri's site... the #6 and #8 are only rated 0.1# difference. And the #6 handles MUCH better than #8 and the only difference is a little extra abrasion on the #8 resistance due to the diameter being larger. I used #8 the first time also and ended up going to #6- it was a good move. If I were you, I'd probably use the #8 since you already have it but then replace it with #6 when you change.
  17. For that price, I'd look at something used in the for sale area here... or call Southwestern Parts and Service (in Dallas) and see what's in the reel counter. (the counter is where all the trade-ins and refurb reels go... I used to buy all my Abu 4600's from the counter for about 1/2 price.... a few scratches but warranted like new.) These days, they are a service center for Shimano, Daiwa, Abu and a few others so the counter may now have a variety of brands to choose from... back when I bought there, it was Abu only.
  18. First read this article: http://www.rodbuilding.org/library/waterfree.html and then buy some waterproof epoxy and follow mfr. instructions. (not water resistant, WATERPROOF) Be sure to clean BOTH sides before epoxying.
  19. I don't know about any heavy rack rods in 3-5 piece but have heard about many rods built on the Batson IC747-3 and IC847-3 blanks, built specifically for travel & peacocks. Also, CTS is a great blank and will make anything in their catalog in 2 or 3 and many in 4 pc.. Also, check with your outfitter, you might be able to ship some rods down ahead of time in a PVC tube or rod hardcase. As a last suggestion, I would PM "Redline Robert" for some advice, I know he has traveled for peacocks in the past... he might have some ideas.

You are ok in most places, but do know that certain cities, towns, etc., consider a bow a firearm... I used to live in one such place.
  21. I knew that if I spent enough, they would have to find new ways to dispose of the excess profits. ;D ;D Thank you, Mr. Uhrig, we appreciate the support!! *edited to add: Just so no one takes my comment the wrong way, I meant that I buy way more than I need, not that the price per unit is out of line. ..lol
  22. You must only mean kistler... the $50 you spend with Loomis includes the return label and you use the same tube the new rod was sent to you in.
  23. DELee36, As I see it, you would love this "problem" if you had no grocery money or were team tourney fishing... Pride can be a bad thing, sometimes. Count your blessings.... you could have real problems. Being married to a better fisherman is not a problem, unless you have pride and/or self esteem issues. Did someone mention therapy?
  24. Impressive!!!! You are a true innovator!
  25. Spoken like the ballplayer. I don't agree at all with that and I did play A-League softball for over 10 years.. Unless you are using spinerbaits and crankbaits only, then yes, stick to the cheap rods and go to better reels. The better rods will telegraph the subtle bites (which are usually bigger fish) and if you have any sensitivity in your hands- result in more big fish I consider catching big fish over little fish- dramatic. Give me a big fish and a camera over a bunch of dinks any day of the week, it just so happened that when I and others I know switched to better rods, we began catching bigger fish on a regular basis.... If it were just me I would say maybe it's not a big deal but when every one I know, who upgraded in rods started catching more and bigger fish on worm and jigs- it's hard to deny the results. Buy an IMX and go worm fish... if you can honestly say, with a straight face, you didn't catch more or bigger fish on it than the $30 combo, I will buy it back from you.
