  1. I had a major theft a few years back... it was covered under my homeowner's policy, not the boat insurance (which also covers contents but like you, not enough) There was no requirement for a "secure" facility. Call your homeowner's (or renter's) insurance agent and see if they can cover it. good luck.
  2. Congrats! But also heed Fishers advice, a little OT for the monkey and then a little more fishing time!

Did you see the game Sunday night????? The great bears defense has been spotty at best. (and I hate to say that since I grew up in suburban Chicago. :'( ) Matt Fly- You are spot on!! I think Rex needs a season or two (as a back up) to learn from a decent QB... Even Aikman and Romo sucked in the beginning of their careers... but they turned out pretty good. Griese isn't the answer. He might be a 1-3 game band-aid but that's all. There is a reason he's a back up.
  4. That's exactly what it is! And I hate politics. But my distaste for politics was overridden by my desire to get out ponds stocked. It's a hassle, depending on your HOA and the size of membership but sometimes hard work is the only way to prevail (legally!!)
  5. Burely, Bow season is here for most of us...
  6. I normally wouldn't have said anything but since it's his signature line, and shows up in all 5000+ posts, I thought he might like to fix it. It was intended to be helpful.
  7. I own a sliver of it! It's one of the ponds maintained by our homeowners association. Then it 's the homeowners association the one who should make the request to have the pond stocked. And the membership of said association (you) needs to request that they do this. (preferably in writing and include some signatures from neighbors to show support for the idea) You are paying them to manage the subdivision so you have a legitimate right and reason to make the request. The more people that ask, the better your chances.
  8. I'll disagree... if you can't handle a 1/2 oz spinnerbait something is VERY, VERY, VERY WRONG. You should be able to EASILY cast that with a $25 blister pack baitcaster. I have an S model an it cast lighter baits than that (1/4oz.) with ease.
  9. That's very subjective... but most people say yes. I think it makes a big difference what you plan to use it for, IMO... I like St. Croix better for T-rigs these days, but I was a Loomis Die hard for 15+ years. (as my worm rod) Of course, recently it appears, people get mad if you ask about anything over $100 or so for a rod or reel, so if you start getting PM's saying you are a tackle nazi- you now know why.
  10. Same here but I have to record it and watch on Wed nights. I heard last night's show was a good one.
  11. You learn something new everyday... I thought scuppernog was just a name Zoom created when they came out with the new color 2 years ago. ...lol
  12. Regardless of the rod/reel, CONGRATS!!!!! on paying off the house and truck!! Man, what a great accomplishment!! Think of the freedom you can experience now in all areas of life. Now, if I got to skip the mortgage payment this month I would have ReelMech build me a custom rod - 5C/4C70MHF (legend elite/legend tourney) and probably get a Core, 50MG or Premier to mount on it. (I'm not overlooking Loomis, but they only offer 1 other rod I want, and it isn't available in a blank.)
  13. I can't wait for a review... just a shade heavier than a 50MG but should be tough as nails!
  14. Surely you could fit a VW Jetta engine in there! A mild bit of Southern engineering and presto. ...lol A TDI would be just what Rusty Hooks needs! One hiccup though, I forgot the Low part of this equation. ...lol
  15. Cost vary widely by boat and lots of other stuff but at least consider these things as a starting point... loan pmts insurance gas for boat and truck routine annual or semi annual outboard maintenance (tune up, impeller, etc.) annual boat tregistration annual trailer registration/tires/etc. And then after it's a few years old you will start having additional costs of replacing things here and there as AJ pointed out. I just did a bunch of re-wiring... that's fun. I am the original owner of a 94' Champion and I have had to replace trolling motors, graphs, lots of switches, batteries, on board chargers, trailer lights, re-wiring, etc. But without boat payments, it's no problem. I still consider my boat a bargin.... the first 8-9 years it was wet over 200 days/yr. Even now as a married guy it's 100+ days a year and if you do the math, it's been less than beer money over the last 14 years. The key is to get one you like and KEEP it a while, otherwise you spend you life working on boats or making payments on boats. Neither is fun.
  16. That's a great guy to know, but don't give out his info except to close friends... I personally know of 2 different shops that were cut off for selling Loomis at a discount. Granted, that was several years ago but, I assume by the uniform pricing that the policy remains... ?
  17. I doubt anyone will say anything... observations are just that and since you experienced this personally, no on can really dispute it. I've also been there, though. I bought 2 Shimano reels earlier this year with out of the box problem (a 50MG and a CU100DSV) in both cases it was the IAR. I returned one and kept the other (and got a replacement IAR bearing sent to me) I wish they would have caught the problem at the factory, it would have saved me some time and money but it worked out in the end and I won't avoid shimano because of it.
  18. I wonder, can mods delete other mods posts? It would be like the shooting tree- offense and defense. ;D ;D It's a slow day around here
  19. Just rub a smear or two of light mud on it and say it was a second hand purchase. It has worked in my house before.

All you have to do is ask the question. In fact, you (and others) have asked a couple of questions like that and gotten some good answers. The problem is most of the time people don't specify "cheap." (your word, not mine)
  21. I had forgotten about that!! Fun times... I'm just glad my boat was on the trailer, not in the next slip. ...lol
  22. Mostly to fisherman, the fish don't usually care. ...lol Save and except to clear water. What do you mean...by "Save and except to clear water." ? Sorry, "Save and except to" is a legal term used in deeds and legal descriptions (work). I meant that in clear water, most fish are more spooky... or in clear water, color and diameter of line has a much greater influence on whether a fish may bite or spook from it. Sorry for the confusion.
  23. If it works that good on a 20oz water, think how good it would work on a 32 oz or 40 oz bottle of brewsky!! All in fun!
  24. Jeremyt, I normally have the opposite problem, I come up with "spec lips" and parts when I head to the coast... but 2 years ago when I had rotator cuff surgury, the Dr said 6-8 months before I could fish... I said no way. Long story short, I started using circle hooks with soft plastics with good success. (got clearance for spinning tackle only in 4 months since my "bad" arm was reeling.) Anyway, very gentle hooksets can be done with only minor changes to rigging.
