How can I get rid of the scum line around boat?
If it's that bad, you might need a mild (or not so mild) rubbing compound. Been there a few times myself, especially when i lived at the lake and the boat stayed in the water for weeks at a time. Meguire's and 3M both make good compounds made specifically for boats.

Aerators for livewells
J_V, Your set up sounds like most I have seen. Most have two options... on for filling and a timer (which runds the pump intermittently) to keep fish alive. Even on the "ON" position it shouldn't overflow though... maybe your drain line is clogged or partially obstructed. Mine will fill almost all the way to the top but won't spill over. Do you have a spray bar or is it just a hose or fitting where it fills from? Most have a spray bar mounted high that aerates as it runs/ fills.. but the spray bar acts like a shower head and limits the volume (gpm) of water coming in so that you drain can keep up. Either way, I recirc. kit is a very good idea. I installed one a couple years ago and spent less than $70 all in. (including an adjustable timer) It is great in the hot summer... I'll use the recirc as a supplement to the regular set up and my fish stay very spunky all day even in the 100+ heat.

best handling line for spinning gear
Avid, What can you do with spinning gear that the famous ultralite BC set up won't do? I guess it's your BC casting arm, and you plan to cast a spinning rod with the other?

Emerald Matrix blank
I haven't fished one, but they do look cool. You can also get complimentary woven handles for them if you want to complete that look. The general population at RBO seem to like it. I would probably make a moving bait rod with it... not a worm or jig rod. They are an intermediate modulous blank. You have lots of options, artistically speaking, that you don't have with other blanks. I've seen some really neat pics of finished out Matrix rods.

My New PB, I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!
N2B, Great fish, congrats!! It sure looks 5+ in the pics... Way to go!!

Avid-Crucial
You should be, IMO. I wouldn't buy a finished rod sight unseen. You really should find a retailer that carries them to hold / wiggle for yourself. Is the avid the one with the hump in the grip? I don't know, as I only use the blanks. (seems like I remember people saying there is a humped grip on those - another reason to hold it in your own hands.) An educated consumer is rarely dissappointed.

Pre-Christmas weakness... a new reel
My middle name was "Chiquita", long before I ever heard of the bait monkey... I'm not afraid to admit it. ...lol Money is not the issue, my budget is an arbitrary number I set based on the fact that there are no reels I want that cost over $250. If I wanted a $300 or $400 reel I would just buy one. I have a TD-Z BBS... I just don't like it very much. None of the TD-Z's feel right in my hand. (but if I got one it would be the 103) I was ready to buy a curado or citica 100 just to try it out... but didn't know the differences between the two so that's how this thread started. Does anyone actually know the difference between the Curado 100DSV and the Citica 100DSV? So far I have only gotten suggestions of other reels to buy. ...lol

Shimano coming out with deep spool curado.
Well the 100D only holds 12/85 14/70 and they sure don't measure capacity with XT... I personally like more than 50 yds of line in my reel... if I have to cut and retie once, I'll have to respool. So the DSV is an option for those who like the size and weight of that reel but don't fish light line or braid.

?? about the brake control knob on Daiwas
huskertko, You won't have any troubles with the dial, as stated it's pretty tight and it's recessed far enough that you will need to deliberately change it. Go buy one, without fear!!

Pre-Christmas weakness... a new reel
I appreciate the input, guys! I'm not opposed to another 50MG but since I have 3 of them already, I though it might be nice to get something else. It's a size and shape I like... and it's the same size & shape as the 100 size curado and citica according to the tackletour guy. So my question was what's the difference in the curado and citica in the 100 size, I wasn't able to find a way to compare and the features are not the same in that (100)size. EW, The antares is one of the reels I looked at this spring... a sweet reel for sure, but for the price I felt like the better value to me was in the 50MG. (it fits my wants better)

Ranking?
It usually takes people about 100 posts before finally thinking to read the FAQ so the "newbie" label is appropriate!! ;D

I Have the Bait Monkey Under Control
We have had everything made, recommended highly at one time or another... from the $0.99 crankbait bin at walmart up to the megabass and LC stuff! I'd need a bigger boat!! On the flip side, it's only money... and you can't take it with you when you go!!

Shimano coming out with deep spool curado.
It's out. it's the 100DSV.

Spinning Technique For A Lefty
Same here! Easiest to just cast righty, however, I do cast with my left sometimes though... you will have to learn to control the line with your pointer finger by spool pressure.

Pre-Christmas weakness... a new reel
The Antares looks pretty sweet but it's a little heavier and more expensive than I want right now. My reel budget is $250 max, so at the moment I'm only looking at the 100DSV's or another 50MG. Thanks

Drained lakes/ponds
could a flood have stocked it to some degree? We have lots of small park and neighborhood ponds near where I used to live that were never stocked but full of fish. I've seen the creeks rise in a minor flood to cover those ponds and presto, they are stocked. Seems like it happened 1-2 times per year. Just a thought. didn't you guys have massive flooding last year or was it this spring?

Pre-Christmas weakness... a new reel
Thanks craw, I read the tackletour review and they absolutly rave about the Curado 100D, and he actually makes many comparisons to the 50MG in the write up... very helpful. Oh and I'm only considering the 100 DSV versions. Thanks again.

Pre-Christmas weakness... a new reel
Another post about the citica got me looking at reels tonight ... as if I need more of them. ...lol anyway I was trying to find actual differences between the Curado 100DSV vs. Citica 100DSV. I am looking in the catalog and there are like 10 different features that say may not be on 100 so I don't have an actual list of what IS on each reel. I have several 50 Mg's and like them a lot but would like a change of pace... so the 2 reels above seem to fit my needs/wants pretty well. (size, weight, line cap., drag cap.) Can anyone tell me what the actual differences are? Thanks

Shimano Citica 100
I think you should order it... and say Merry Christmas to yourself!

Setting Your Drag
Catt and fourbizzle, The shimano catalog says the cardiff drag max's out at 7.5 - 11 lbs (depending on the model) Have you altered the reels or just channel locked the drags down? (purely curious)

Pearl Grips on a CTS colbalt blank
Can we assume the "editor" to be T.K.? (so I can get the details when my copy arrives) Again, fine work! Can you give us an idea of the weight of the material? Did you sleeve it with cork or an arbor? (if it was heavy)

line size for crankbaits
Well since I don't carry a specific crankbait rod anymore, the rod I pick up may have anything from 14# to 20# on it. I used to carry a crankbait rod but that was back when I lived in east Tx (near Fork) so it had 14# or 17# XT on it anyway. ...lol If you fish timber, heavier line makes sense. You just need to run a deeper bait than you would have otherwise.

fiberglass vs graphite
Very well put, GMAN. With graphite, you can now get the same good qualities of glass but at a much lighter weight. I for one will never return to glass for any freshwater application.
