  1. quote from above - " we run just about side by side but his runs 92 mph running light and mine runs about 82, no matter how it's loaded. " my dear friends, you may not be able to CATCH a fish running 92 mile an hour, but, man, you sure would LOOK cool trying! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  2. ok guys, i have a question for those of you who are "pouring your own." do you pour them to get a certain color/size, etc.,, or, is it just cheaper to pour your own?
  3. low_budget --- 10-4 on keep up the good work! i'm sure that when you get things going, that if you need equipment, supplies, etc., that Many on the board here will help you. i know i will. find out what we can do to help, post it, & we'll try to help you help Them. ....it's a Good thing you're doing. Thanks for caring for them jt
  4. no matter what type of bait you use.... no matter how you use it..... you wont' catch fish if you don't fish where the fish are! Where are you fishing?? do you see baitfish? are you fishing points? are you fishing near some current? etc..... (are OTHER people fishing there?) WHY would fish be where you are fishing? what would hold them there?? look at the lake as a whole, then, as certain fish-holding areas (a map would help Tremendously) ... when you find two or three areas that you KNOW are holding fish, then concentrate on those areas. fish them with crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits (finder baits). when you find One fish, then, slow down, fish weightless worms, fish senkos, fish grubs, etc.. keep confidence. there ARE fish in that lake. it may take you awhile to find them, but, they're there. right now may not be the best time to find or catch them, but perserverance will pay off. ...one day, it will be YOUR lake, you'll know it, you'll know where the fish are, thinking about these learning days will make you smile. ...you can do it bud!
  5. that was cool, bud. congrats
  6. congrats guys on your new positions. ..from reading the posts the short time i've been here, it sounds like Great Choices. - (and these great choices help make this a great site!) just a note - i'm a super mod at quite a few sites, and NONE of them have as little trouble as here. glenn has done a Superb job of keeping things in line & helping the site to grow. .... again, kudos to the new mods. jt
  7. i'm a very concientious pattern fisherman. i may spend half of my allotted time "searching" - but once i've found fish in certain locations for certain reasons - then i target only those types of locations.
  8. and all this time i thought you were rick clunn
  9. i went through the same dilema a few months ago when i was outfitting my small boat w/a new motor. i decided on the 2 stroke for a number of reasons, but, i guess the main one being that i've used 2 strokes all my life & "it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks!" LOL btw, either way, you'll be happy to have a new outboard!
  10. "Minner Drowners" (minner for minnow) for crappie fishermen
  11. how sad is This? ....our rivers are not listed because we have 0 - Nada - Zip - smallmouth. but, hey, i'll trade you a few gars & bowfin for some of them there smallies! ;D
  12. hey, maybe that's a way to feed the monkey! Wheeeeeeeee
  13. jeffp12 - i, too, in the past looked at the trackers. the pictures look great, but there have been problems w/durability. i don't know where you're located, but if you're anywhere in the southeast, some friends of mine own Marshall's Marine (www.marshallsmarine.com) and they have Many brands - esp. triton - that they hook up & compare to the tracker. these guys don't play. when they have their "big day" the first of each year, they don't have bill dance, or, hank parker, or forrest wood, or roland martin, etc., etc. ...... they have ALL OF THEM! All at the same time. they keep 250 boats rigged all the time & have their own lake out back to let you test it out before you take it home. they've got to have good prices & sell a lot of boats to do all this.... it may be worth your time to check them out.
  14. whittler, that statement would be really funny.....IF, you hadn't had to learn about it the hard way! i know that must have made you want to cry.
  15. well, yankee_bassman, justtrying said, tongue in cheek, "if the Lord had meant for people to live in them there kind of places, He wouldn't have made South Carolina!" Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  16. welcome racefan - lots of good fishing stuff here. btw - i used to race karts as well. in fact, we had our own track. raced 2 stroke & 4 stroke back then. i've got lots of trophies, but, You Can't Catch Fish With Them! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee
  17. welcome back grumpy - now, can i ride in it? can i? huh?
  18. hey jakeolsen2219, welcome - i'm sure you'll find lots of useful info here. there's quite a few well-informed peeps who are always willing to share.
  19. good post guys, great information btw - i mentioned in a recent post that, with a sensitive rod, you not only feel the vibration in your hand; you can even feel it when the end of your rod touches your side, belly, etc.. And, it is indeed, "CrankBait Time!" Wheeeeeeeeeeee
  20. hello & welcome "lowcountry_lunker" - from one newbie to another .....AND, from one South Carolinian to another. ...so, i guess this means we've got them covered, from the low country to the great Pee Dee. LOL
  21. i fished using a "roll cast" years ago, but didn't know the proper name for it til i saw Jimmy Houston do it on tv. watch jimmy fish a spinner bait & you'll see him "roll" his hand over & release the bait while his hand is under the rod. he, in effect, just "shoots" the bait off the end of the rod into a tight spot. after doing it for a little while, it becomes second nature. try it yourself & you'll find yourself "roll casting" lots of times to speed up casting time & to get cast in particular spot.
  22. 1) find wood [stumps, trees, limbs, etc... 2) throw To, Around, Behind, On, Bump, Crash, etc., every piece of wood you can find with a crankbait 3) put the fish in the boat!
  23. South Carolina i live about 40 miles from the coast, and am surrounded by rivers, lakes, etc. (and i LOVE it!) lynches river (small river) less than 1/2 mile from my house, Pee Dee (big muddy) 3 miles from here, Santee Cooper lakes, Santee River, Little Pee Dee, and lots more, an hour or so away. ... yes, i'm a blessed man.
  24. if you were to walk out to my boat right now, you'd find six rods & reels, rigged with: 1 - 7 1/2" culprit worm (black/purple) 2- chartreuse 1/4 oz, 2 bladed spinnerbait (1 blade colorado) 3 - 1/4 oz rat-l-trap (chrome w/blue back) 4 - 1/4 oz chartreuse cavitron buzzbait 5 - chome rattling rogue w/black back 6 - shad colored bagley crankbait boys & girls, if you can't catch one in the rivers where i fish with one of those, you just as well load the boat & go home. (oh, yeah, i'll save the other four picks til later! Wheeeeeee)
