  1. hey, really great vid there. the music is really good, do you have more somewhere online?
  2. thats what i used, they are a perfect fit. I read somewhere about a guy that threads shoe laces through them to make them easier to remove. haven't done that yet on mine.
  3. p.s.-since this picture, i have added stoppers to the scupper holes and removed the tape
  4. i use a Pelican castaway SOT. i fish calm rivers and lakes and it works very well. very stable. the only wetness is sometimes from the paddle, or when boating a fish and they tail-splash you. i chose this boat because i wanted to fish and it came with 3 rod holders, it was fairly wide (stable), and it was in stock locally, i saved on shipping and bought a nicer paddle. you don't have to spend a lot on one unless you're going to put it through some abuse that is more harsh than regular wear and tear. i feel like i have already got my money's worth out of it. floating and fishing is oh so nice. you'll see what i mean.
  5. i have been using 6" watermelon seed zoom flukes. the smallies in the river like them weightless. less calories i guess.
  6. i usually go with an "ohhh yeah", or "Bam!" My most colorful phrases come out when one gets away!
  7. foam golf balls? awesome idea! thanks. also, thanks for posting all the great kayak fishing info in these forums. quite inspiring.
  8. I have a pelican castaway kayak, it didn't come with any scupper stoppers. i see ocean kayak brand stoppers on all the retail sites. they come in sm med and large. how do i know what will fit? also, anyone know of any other resource to get these?
  9. how do you keep it smooth? also, do you put it inside and out?
  10. went out yesterday (sunday 27th). the river was still up about 10 inches or more. caught over 10 "rock bass" in 2 hours. they aren't very big, but fun to catch anyway. anybody know the real name for those little guys with red eyes? twenty minutes after we left another storm came through and dumped a bunch of rain again. i went out after it stopped and couldn't get a bite.
  11. we have been getting tons of rain and all the rivers are totally flooded. an angler north of muncie reported a hugh fish kill due to a broken drainage tile and farm field run off. i'm ready for some dry days.
  12. i finally bought a kayak. its a pelican castaway. it came with a rod holder in front and two behind, as well as a decent back support and a paddle. i bought a regular version for the wife. we mostly paddle rivers in a 15' canoe, but you can't beat the simplicity of these little boats. its really fun and has expanded my fishing areas. I would love to get a job in marketing for a manufacturer. i bet i could sell a bunch around here. Pelican, let me know when i can start.
  13. husbands and wifes quarrling at the boat ramp is always entertaining, unless you're the husband or wife. i watched a lady back down the ramp until the water was almost to the back doors on their SUV, her husband screaming from the boat. at least she was backing it up stright....
  14. i have started using some buzz baits on the river. yesterday evening they were really going after it. Adding a trailer hook makes for more hookups. The downside of the trailer hook is that smaller fish get it hooked farther back and its harder to get out.
  15. maybe i'm confused about the terms but, i think the most looked down on is a spin cast "closed reel". however, its a really simple setup that helps kids and the inexperienced get into fishing. also, 3 days ago i bought a spinning combo from BPS. its the first one i've used in about 15 years. i definitely struggled with it at first. i think i've remembered now. i haven't used a bait caster or a fly set up yet.
  16. i havent had any luck on summit. i mostly fish white river.
  17. i recently started using a buzzbait on the river. it gets a lot of strikes from the smaller rock bass. no smallies on it though. i've been using a black mini buzz, maybe a bigger one would entice smallies. are you fishing white river? nightime gets the most strikes, but its harder too see obstructions in the water.
  18. Prairie Creek Reservoir near Muncie is having it's largest and earliest blue-green algae bloom. The water has a strong "dirt-type" smell. Indiana-American water company(who own the reservoir) has obtained a permit from the state to spray portions of the lake with a copper based algaecide. I am wondering if this or the algae will have an adverse effect on the fish. Has anybody had this at their home lake?
  19. http://blogs.houstonpress.com/hairballs/2010/04/bass_lead_weight_belly.php this guy tried, and failed...
  20. My fiance had to have a pink fishing pole. its been used a few times. Also, doe's anyone else notice how women are drawn to the new lime green type color? She tried to buy a lime coroled vacuum that was $20 more than a black one. ha! i feel bad now that i cheaped out and made her get the black one....
  21. I got off work @ 5 and hit the river by 5:30. I tried all my favorite spots with about everything in my tackle box. A friend of mine joined me that I haven't fishind with before. He turned over some rocks and pulled out a few crawdads. Baited a hook with a piece of one and borrowed a float from me. Within a half hour he caught a bluegill, a catfish, a rock bass, and a smallie. Also pulled a snake out from under a big rock just to look at it. I caught nothing, but learned a lot. I'm thinking i should lighten my tackle box for my next river attempt.
  22. My parents bought a pontoon with a trailer, but the carpet gets pulled loose when they load it. Anybody know how to get the carpet to stay on the trailer? it was in great shape when it was purchased, and has now been replaced once since then. direction needed.
  23. that blog has all kinds of good info, thanks.
