good spincast for kids?
My boy has a small zebco (not sure which) that works well, he uses it for panfish. He has been using a Quantum Underspin reel for bass casting. (It goes with a spinning rod as opposed to a baitcast rod.) He is able to cast it much better than a typical spincast for some reason. The trigger seems to just be more his style I guess. I actually just got a Spirex for $20 at Dick's that I'm gonna give him for xmas. Same type of trigger deal so he should be able to adapt quickly.

How effective are texas rigged senkos?
Not true, use the weight you need not the weight that somebody else tells you to. Even though senkos is not a bait a swear and drool about I do fish them ocassionally, T-rigged is one of the many rig I use and the weight can go from 1/16 oz all the way up to 1 oz, weight depends on where and when. Exactly. Just like any other soft plastic, use the amount of weight needed to fish the cover/structure effectively. I use 1/16 in sparse cover; outside edges, or in holes in the pads/grass. I started flipping/pitching heavier weighted Senkos after seeing Gary himself do it in a tournament many years ago. I have caught more fish over 7 pounds on that lure (1/4-1/2 ounce) than any other in the last 5 years.

Florida, January recommendations.
January certainly can be tough fishing. It is hard to even get on the water some years if you only have weekends. But since you are staying for a month, you can pick your days and go out during a warming trend. Of course last year there were no warming trends in Jan., but hopefully this year will be more mild. If you end up in the Kissimmee area you might want to hit Southport Park, at least to ramp. It is on Toho, but on the opposite end from downtown Kissimmee. The only overnight accommodations are for rv's, but there is a contingent of bass anglers that stay there every year for an extended period (around Thanksgiving to March). They are a wealth of information and they don't mind sharing it. Some of them come from around Florida and some from further north. They can definitely show you the way. If you end up around Camp Mack area don't forget about Lake Walk in Water.

wacky rod
The most frequent bait I wacky rig is a Zoom Finesse worm. Have also been using the Jackall Flick Shake. Use a 4 inch Senko a bit. I have tried several different rods I already own, but casting has been difficult - most of my rods are on the stout side. Tried a lighter rod (it's probably med light) and I am a little skittish about it. I usually throw the rig near some pretty thick grass, docks, etc., and I don't have a lot of confidence as far as moving a bigger fish away from the cover.

wacky rod
Me too! I'm hoping someone has experience with that rod. I have recently picked up a few Powell's and love them. But would love some hands on time with the Wacky Rod. In lieu of that, some good reviews would be nice.

wacky rod
What's a great choice for a spinning rod for wacky worming? Between $100 range and $200 tops please.... Thanks-

spinning reel for less 100 dollars
Pflueger Supreme, or Saros if you can find it for $100, or Symetre. All are quality and will serve you well.

Ya, the Bucs were 2-0, the Steelers come into town, bringing of course tons of fans, and the game still didn't sell out in time to lift the black out. GO RAYS!

J.J.'s Magic
Must have some pretty stout soap up your way. Either that or you have an extra hour or three to wash your digits after fishing. I can still smell it a little, and I had hot wings for lunch (and no they weren't garlic flavored).

"rugged" cell phone
Thanks for the info. I guess I may end up not getting one that's waterproof, but insurance is then mandatory. I will definitely dunk any phone that is not protected. That's the way my luck tends to work. I saw where they have a way to back up your data now as well, so that will also help.

"rugged" cell phone
Thanks Bassclary-looks pretty good. Glad I asked, that one wasn't coming up when I was searching the site for some reason.

J.J.'s Magic
So, how do you get the smell off of your fingers?! I bought a bottle today at the Florida Sportsman's Show, and I decided to carry it instead of placing it in a bag with other items. It leaked a tiny bit while I was holding it, and now my hands smell like chicken cacciatore on steroids. :'(

"rugged" cell phone
Can anyone recommend a solid waterproof cell phone? I recently ran over (yes, ran over) my G'Z One and although it still makes and receives calls, the inner screen is unreadable. So, no texts, can't read my contacts, or see who called after the fact. I have verizon, but am open to other providers as my contract is up. Thanks-

Shimano Curado CU200
I have 4 and love them. They were the first reels I bought at over the $100 price point, and once I had one, I "needed" more. I have recently updated a lot of my set ups and the CU200's don't see a whole lot of action these days. I have been toying with the idea of selling them, but they are hard to part with.

Gambler Bacon Rind
I actually found a pack in the garage and tried them today - no luck on it though. Do they still make them??

Falcon spinning reel
Yup, that 's what I thought, the bent machine cut handle looks very nice too. But .... I 'm saving my pennies for this one now: Revros MX I have a previous generation Revros ( Revros 2004 ) and man, what a great reel for 75 bucks, I 'm delighted with it. Ya, I noticed that weight on the Falcon is up there. Heavier than what I have now, and I'd rather be going down. Know anyone who has the Revros for sale right now Raul? By the way, your new avatar is scaring me!!!!!

Rod and Reel Choices, 1/16oz and up
Kinda depends on who's doing the casting, doesn't it?

Rod choice
I don't think that Bucco would be ideal for plastics myself. Seems too soft. I have the 7' m Mojo, I got it originally for light weight texas rigs and it did well for that purpose. I actually use it almost exclusively for shallow cranks these days however. A great deal in that price range is the Okuma C3. It retails most places for around $150, but ebay has them for under $100 brand spankin' new. I have the 7' MH, great for all plastics in light/moderate cover situations. http://www.okumafishing.com/family/297593/C3 It is unique looking, but it feels fantastic so that makes it pretty easy to get used to...
