Headlamps help
Check this one out: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10213152_100016007_100000000_100016000?hvarAID=shopping_googlebase&om_mmc=shopping_googlebase It is the clip to the bill of your cap kind, really convenient. And you recharge it in your truck's power outlet. Again, very convenient, don't have to worry about batteries. (If that link doesn't work it is made by Quarrow.)

MASSIVE weight loss
Super job. Maybe next year will be my year...how long have I been saying that?! You should change your avatar to a before/after set-up. That way you will keep on inspiring people around here.

WFN on Vz FIOS
I like it, and I miss it. Had to switch to Brighthouse when I moved, and when the guy showed up to hook me up, he had never even heard of it. It has some worthless shows, and I can't confirm In-Fisherman, but it has enough to make it worth it.

What kind of tennis shoes do you wear?
I actually liked the shoe and could not figure out why I have not seen it... -The Nike LunarGlide+ is the most gender-specific shoe in the Lunar Series. From the inside out and the bottom up, it is built for a women's foot and body. It also includes an ultra-light, ultra-strong Flywire upper to provide a lightweight, snug yet flexible fit. And while it offers the most plush cushioning, it is also the most supportive of the three shoes. What a great marketing idea - I can hear the commercial now: "Strong enough for a professional model/fisherman, but made for a woman." For the record, I currently have a pair of Mizuno's that have been incredibly comfortable.

spinning reel combo for wacky rig
It depends somewhat on the weight of the baits you are throwing. Wacky rigged senko-style baits are easy to throw on most spinning rods. For flimsier baits it is nice to have a little tip movement so you can get some casting distance. I was thinking about getting a rod specifically for wacky rigs, but it turned out I had a rod that did fine, as far as casting at least. I am using a 6'10" Kistler Mag, MH. I think they say it is fast action, but I have no problem throwing wacky rigged finesse worms with it.

If you only had one rod, what would it be?

baitcasting rod for light weight texas rigs
Thanks for all of the help. Probably will take some time to think about it, and wait for another sale somewhere, but I am leaning towards a Dobyns Champion or maybe even a Champion Extreme. My local shop carries them, but he is pretty much sold out right now. I'd like to feel them up some more as well. Every time I think I want to focus on one brand of rod, I get a hankerin' to try something new. Maybe eventually one specific maker will win my heart, but as for now I am gonna be a variety man.

Did Shimano ever make any "clunker" reels??
I had a Shimano Corsair that was horrible from day 2. I enjoy many Shimano products these days, but that was a bad experience. I actually was able to return it to the store since it had problems pretty much from the get-go. I don't think that reel was around for very long, so I assume I was not the only one who had troubles.

Sh. Sahara vs. Stradic ???
I have an older Stradic, 3 Sahara's, a Symetre and a Saros. Never had any major problems with Saharas, but cosmetically the side plates fell off on two of them. Just glued them back, not a huge deal. But then someone gave me a Symetre and I knew pretty quickly the Sahara's were destined for loaner rods and back ups. Got the Saros for $100, and it has also been great. I would like to try a newer Stradic, my older one is still crankin' (but it's a 4000 and doesn't get much use anymore). Just hard to spend the extra money to me, the Saros and Symetre do all that I require and then some. Plus I really want to try one of the new Pfleuger's next time I am in the market for a new spinning reel.

Drop Shot Rod with Strong Backbone and Soft Tip
That Crucial is great. You might also want to check out the MH version and decide between those two. The tips are very similar actually, with obviously a little more "umph" in the mid section with the MH.

baitcasting rod for light weight texas rigs
Thanks for the info. regarding the Dobyns rods guys. Have wanted to try one for quite awhile now. Is the 743 you speak of in the Extreme line David? I have come to like rods over 7 foot, so now I am thinking the 733 or 743 would be the way to go. What are the main differences in the Champion and Champion Extreme lines? Thanks for the help.

baitcasting rod for light weight texas rigs
Had not thought about a Zillion. I have the 7'6" Heavy, and like it a lot so far. Will definitely give that one some thought. It would be tough to go to the medium though, even though it would probably cast better than the mh. Thanks for the idea.

baitcasting rod for light weight texas rigs
That gives me an idea. I have an Amistad, and it actually has a pretty nice tip to it. I have been using it for pitching, mostly 3/16 and up weights, short distances. But it may work for my casting duties. Thanks!

Powell Rods power question
To me the ratings are ideal with Powell, and all other rods are compared to them. In other words, I think of Powell as "just right" in terms of ratings, so I judge others as being one way or the other with that in mind. Guess that really doesn't answer the question though, huh. I would say they are a little stiffer than other mh rods I have used. They are a very fast action rod, making them seem a bit stiffer in my opinion. But that works for me, I love the actions of their mh and h rods. And I would say as to your comparison rods, the Powells are in between the Veritas and the Lamiglas.

baitcasting rod for light weight texas rigs
Looking for specific recommendations for a casting rod that will be great for 1/8 ounce texas rigs. Light cover/open water for the most part, probably 12 lb. flouro on the reel. (Maybe something that I could throw braid on if the need arises.) But mainly a rod that is extremely sensitive and capable of throwing light weight baits a solid distance. Feel free to throw in info. about the reel you have the rod paired with as well. Will probably want to stay around $200 mark, give or take $50. Thanks for the help.

favorite shakey head bait??
I usually stick with a trick worm, but if you need a little more shimmy try a Zoom Shakey Tail.
-
flippin rod
Check out the Powells - 765 is good for all-around flipping, 766 for more serious slop.

Swimbait rod suggestions?
I'd say go with the Okuma....and buy a bigger car.

budget pitching rod and reel
Sounds like a solid combo. Pro Qualifiers are sweet, and although I don't have that extreme, the ones I have are nice for the price.

I'm never buying tackle on ebay again...
Who cares how much shipping is as long as you're getting a good deal?? If the best price I can find on an item anywhere is $100, and I find it on ebay for $80 plus $10 shipping, I just saved $10. So I'm happy, and couldn't care less how much the dude made. Some stuff I see really makes me wonder though. I saw a Mojo rod up for bid. That is around a $100 rod, and of course some places even have free shipping. The bidding was in the neighborhood of 60 bucks. I was thinking of bidding, then I saw that the shipping was - wait for it - $120!!! Obviously that was a mistake I thought to myself. So I emailed the seller and said, "Did you mean to say $20 shipping?" He answered right away with a "Nope." I watched the listing until it ended. The rod sold for just over $60 I believe. So someone got a $100 rod for a total of $180. Something fishy going on, although I have no idea what. Oh, and he was shipping it from Kansas, so it's not like he was trying to send it over from North Korea or something.

payouts for a team club
To guys who fish in a team format for their club: How is the payout manged? In other words, if we pay back 80% and keep 20% for the Classic Fund, how do you break down the 80% and how many places do you pay?

powell rods
I'd say that's a good thing. Powell is much like a quality offensive lineman. If nobody's talkin' about him, he must be doin' his job. Powell rods don't have the "star" status of some rods, but rarely will you ever hear anyone talk negatively about their quality, value, or customer service. I have added 3 Powells to my lineup this year and I never leave the dock without 'em.

Abu Garcia Veritas
What baits have you tried on the 7'3" rod?

Revo STX or Citica baitcasters
Keep in mind you can get a nib citica for less than retail on ebay. I got one for $90 shipped not too long ago.
