  1. i like that idea of probing with the spinnerbait and then slowing it down if you dont get any takers. definatly going to try that out
  2. got turned onto it by this site and have 10lb on my baitcasters which is pretty good for 75 percent of my applications. have one with braid, and one with mono as well. i have 6lb on my one spinning outfit, and i have 8lb 100 fluro on another. that stuff casts like junk!!!!! its abrasion resistance is mediocre at best and i will rpboably switch it out for hybrid this year.
  3. i usually go through the slot first and skin hook in the back. sometimes if i'm runnin low on baits ill flip it over and do it how you said.
  4. plastics= pumpkinseed of various assorted watermelons. thats where the dye markers come in handy to give em flair spinnerbaits= white/chartruese, black (dye markers fix these up too) cranks=shad, bluegill jerkbaits= ghosts, perch, shiner topwater= white belly mostly jigs= pumpkin, black blue
  5. all great tips. what about big chunk rock and boulders in about the same 2-6 foot depth range? same things would go into affect in choosing the lure i would assume. i really gotta break out of my shell this year and change up my lure usage.
  6. 40$?!?!?!??! ill give you 75 for all of it!! LOL. all of thats worth wayyyyyyyy more than 40. you could easile get 40 for one of those boxes alone, not to mention 3-4 of them!
  7. howdy all, i dont usually start new topics but this one is "stump"ing me. When you guys come into an area say 2-6 foot deep, maybe some stumps or sparse weeds, what makes you pick up one over the other? i love fishing flukes and it seems like i always have one tied on. I don't do much spinnerbait fishing (mostly only in the fall) and hardly and shallow crank/ square bill fishing. i see flukes as being versitle enough to fish most of the situations i fish those other lures in though. so what makes you throw a square bill over a spinnerbait or over a fluke

you can spot birds and maybe minnows busting on the surface and such. also its useful to look for creeks flowing into your body of water.
  9. you guys are ruthless!! lol. nah i would do the same thing most of you guys do in the same situation. if one of my buddies is 15 minutes late, i just leave without them. and when i say 15 minutes....i mean my truck is going into drive at 14:59 out of my driveway and if i pass them on the way out its too late!
  10. when getting up at a "decently early time" to fish means 8 in the morning!!! hell ive already milked all the cows and make breakfast by then!
  11. i just worry aobut keeping my line tight more than anything. sometimes when you're in the moment there is no paying attention to your rod tip. something that's just instilled into me (and probably everyone that bass fishes) is keep the line tight no matter what.
  12. fishermen helping fishermen right there man!!!! good stuff. i love me some homemade venison jerky (while it lasts, normally run out around late april) peanut butter sandwiches are always clutch, and i love my fruit punch gatorade 32 oz bottle!!

    i like c-riggin flukes
  14. they have been nothing but a pain with me. so much so i stopped buying their rods and reels. numeroues broken reels (orra's and c3's) and got zero help from the company. reel seat broke on my veritas and i called and they wanted me to send 40 dollars with it to get fixed.
  15. a crate would help with the dog jumping out problem! i keep my rods the bed of my truck and have never had a problem. you cant have anything else in there with them though cause if that stuff shifts weight its goin to take out one of your rods. just be aware that they are back there and don't be taking turns at 50 and you should be fine.
  16. kind of unfortunate that all of those other rigs (ie: double fluke, drop shot with shakey head) got the axe also. i guess they do fit into the same field as the a-rig though. i still think the ban is silly
  17. my friend has one and its a great boat. 16 footer that was actually custom made by one of the guys that worked in the factory. actually was "downgraded" for our jersey waters because what a lake is to us is a pond for most and by the time you get full rpms youre already on the other side of the lake. the boat has great storage and was well though out for being a small boat.
  18. i used to only fish with 2 piece rods due to storage issues, but ive since upgraded to a truck. and won't you know it, most of the two piece rods are still in my arsenal! (besides one or two that got shut in the truck door, stepped on,...etc.). the thing i like about them is being able to store them easily. with a 2 piece in my truck cab, i'm always ready to wet a line. plenty sensitive, shouldnt twist or come apart if made by a halfway decent company. pair it with a good reel, and it will last you just as long as any other rod!
  19. welcome from a jersey brother!

from one new jersian to another.....WeLCOME!!!!
  21. depends how much you want to spend. i have a piranhamax 160 for my jon boat. it works alright, pretty good for the money. if you got a thick wallet i would look into the 385 ci. has most of the bells and whistles a guy could ask for. i think lowrance has their elite 4 series in a portable version too.
  22. its just how they learned. thats how all of my friends are as well. the reel with the left hand on spinning reel, and switch to reeling with their right with casting. all righties mind you. i am a righty also, but i was raised reelnig spinning reels with my right hand, and the transition to using a casting rod was easy. i have no down time switching hands and that could possibly lead to more bites for me!
  23. well it wasn't really a goal but i caught a bass open water later than i have ever before. we normally have ice by this time, but last week i took the boat out and landed a few smallies. as for 2012 i want to hone in my crankbait skills. also breaking the 7 lb mark would be nice to do again! good luck everyone!
  24. checkinnnn in for jersey!!!! i put the boat up for the winter two weeks ago hopin for some ice! not that i'm upset about the fact, the boat is back in action! caught the smallie in my profile pic on december 15th. now im getting antsy for spring time bassin', and we havent even made it out of december yet!
