  1. We used this with the original creme scoundrel back years ago - my dad liked to put a snap swivel in the mix -
  2. I went broke trying it - 18 hrs a day no holidays - guys could mailorder back then and beat my prices - to small of a market where I was located - night crawlers and other live bait were my mainstays - but I made a lot of great friends and met some worthwhile characters.
  3. I've had good success working a t-rigged white senko over and through pads when they spurned my frog - if the water was over a couple of feet deep I would use a weight to let it drop through the openings - braid is a big plus in pads. Not sure the color was important but it was a confidence thing for me.
  4. That full is doable with mono - too much for fluoro.
  5. Lots of big bass have the hooks torn out of them with braid and an xf rod.
  6. As my mentor told me years ago "If it has a hook it can catch a fish if you want it to and try hard enough."
  7. If you are trying to pull fish through the weeds - line break and heart break are a certainty - hooked fish in the weeds - go to the fish - or use some serious braid.
  8. Depending on the environment and strike I either sweep very hard and crank crank crank all the way to the boat - or give it the quick upward motion -if they are eating it they are choking it usually - Lip hooks are 20 - 25% of my frog caught fish. All the advice in world won't take the place of time on the water - we're all wired a bit differently and you will find your own way. My partner for years set the hook differently than I did and we both became successful frog fishermen with high hook up ratios. The most important thing is to BELIEVE IN THE FROG and keep on chuckin'.
  9. fiberglass gets a little softer action over time but I have some old Fenwicks I still love for spooks and such.
  10. I won the first 3 tournaments I fished in the 80's with one 6' rod with a 3500 ambassador reel spooled with 14# stren.
  11. Unless it's raining boat flipping is not a very healthy thing to do to a bass - I'm impressed that major league fishing penalizes for a fish touching the deck or the angler's body. These critters are the foundation of all our fun, show them some respect.
  12. windy, the furbit going away - otherwise the snagproof tweety
  13. Small tackle shop building rods, repairing reels, tying flies - that was back before big box stores - owned my own bait and tackle shop (great way to go broke) -retired as a bass guide - fishing business has been a major part of my life - ret'd with great friends and memories - money?what money?
  14. One of each
  15. A one pound bass will readily eat a 14" water snake - my rule of thumb is if the fish are active and you want a big fish throw the biggest thing you have - in Florida I swam 18" delongs with some success - 11" - 14" were good but you'd catch some one pounders in the mix.
  16. 6# mono/ 1/4 oz. - I assume you're using spinning tackle - shouldn't be a problem - make sure your spool is full.
  17. I once dropshotted 4" yum vibra king tubes with 1 oz weight and 50# braid in 2' - 3' depths on the big O - kind of a punch drop shot - it worked better that day than the usual punch baits - I could hold the tube off the bottom under the mats.
  18. I have a U.S. made Ardent 1000 I dearly love - it's caught a bunch of bass- I paid $249 for it - if they are no longer made here and are only $99 I figure you'll get something less than my old one.
  19. Hope this isn't off subject - Just weighed a box of reels - my old PQ10hb packed with 12# fluoro weighs 7.7 oz. - - my Ardent packed with 10# flouro comes in at 8.4 oz. - I fished these reels along with curados, calais, daiwas for 250 - 300 days a year, never minded their weight- back a few years ago we palmed 5000's without permanent damage to our bodies or minds - I've always been far more concerned with the weight of my rods than the reels.
  20. Knew an old man that used whatever he found on his way to the river - he always caught fish - He said fish ate what was around at the time.
  21. welcome to the addiction
