  1. One of my best frog trips was 90 air temp - 86 water temp - oxygen comes into play at those temps and drives the fish shallow under the mats or pads, (in some waters) - one of my clients bested his pb 5 times that day - most fish from 10 am to 2 pm.
  2. Try a trick worm with a 1/16th to 1/8th free sliding sinker - experiment with retrieves - hops to swims to drags and what I call the dying quiver, where you tighten up to the worm and try and hold it still - this has been the day saver for me on many charters.
  3. Big topwaters - big worms - deep cranks (if I must) - frogs - frogs - more frogs.
  4. In my worthless opinion instant anti reverse is over rated.
  5. We want sensitive rods which require some attention to details - drag setting, etc. - as rods get thinner and lighter they can be damaged by dings more easily. I've fished for everything from bluegills to blue marlin and have never seen a fish break a rod if properly used.
  6. If it has a hook it can catch a bass.
  7. My old mentor told me that each day has it's own rhythm and a good bass fisherman's job was to find the right rhythm for the day - experiment -
  8. I use the snag proof "tweety" yellow head, black body - it's caught a lot of bass for me when there's not enough wind for a black furby.
  9. Never used one that fast but when I'm grinding in a good frog fish I don't want higher than 6:3 or so
  10. Check out Ned Kehde's blog at Infisherman - he has technique that will enable you to catch lots of bass on a spinning rod without succumbing to the bait monkey that plagues most of us.
  11. Keep experimenting with retrieves - your outfit is fine - 50# gives you a little more distance which is important.
  12. My first try I forgot to have it tied to my wrist and threw the whole shebang into Sebastian inlet in Florida in front of a crowd. very embarrassing - get some instructions first.
  13. Calm days can be problematical - I've had a couple of stellar days when it was calm by letting the frog set still for a very long time - there is no limit to how long you can dead stick a frog - my only issue is my own impatience - I've caught some good fish dead sticking that sucked the frog under with nary a ripple not unlike a trout sipping a dry fly.
  14. Trick worm on shaky head is deadly - very deadly.
  15. Seems you have it right.
  16. Sometimes they will suspend in the shade of overhanging trees - I'll use a senko type, trick worm, finesse worm - fluke - unweighted or lightly weighted and let it waft down through the water column - this has been effective for me in this situation.

There are several pure walking hollow bodies - z walker? and the fish arrow jack are two that are simple to walk - trimming legs and such will make many frogs easier to walk - I use a hopping - pull - pause at different speeds - most of the time it is more effective than walking - not always but most of the time it works better for me. You gotta love frog fishing - so many frogs - so many retrieves - so much fun - invent your own retrieve - and don't forget to set the hook.
  18. Although the daiwa l&t is my go to rod. I have a falcon 7' mh which I use when I'm in close combat frog fishing - it's very accurate and with braid it sticks the hooks good. In my experience too stiff rod tips lose lots of frog fish.
  19. Baitcasting rods started out with straight handles then off set became the preferred style and now it's back to straight handles (which I prefer on rods over 6'). I have a 5 1/2' casting rod with offset handle which is a devishly accurate caster. I have 6600c - good reel for shiner fishing, trolling, and I use it to throw swimbaits occasionally.
  20. I've always been a Loomis fan - I have their frog rod - it isn't my favorite - the daiwa l&t suits me much better - I can walk a punker with the Loomis when I have the strength.
  21. This is a fair enough question. Having been involved in the fishing industry on and off for years. I was always happy to take a rod and/or reel or lure for free and put it through its paces. There are very few "new" things in fishing tackle - just refinements for the most part. Ours is an industry where you can't watch a televised fishing show without blatant product pushing - the pros must push their sponsors products - that's just the way it is and it is up to the individual to sort through all this to find what suits his style and affordability. This forum is a good place to get ideas and opinions that can be of value in this over hyped world of fishing tackle. I would hope any compensated reviews are identified as such.
  22. When given ugly sticks to try out at their introduction we found they were very good tools for beating water moccasins away from the boat.
