  1. In every neck of the woods I've been in any snake under 20" or so is bass food. Bass eat snakes pretty regularly Doug Hannon's snake works for some folks - I tried them once or twice but they were a bit more work than delongs and big mommas which are pretty snaky and at times they are deadly but the frog usually beats them.
  2. Once caught 7 undersize muskies in one day on one -
  3. I throw frogs and spooks a lot - frogs are just more versatile and the more you throw frogs the better your hook-up percentage will become.
  4. A good lure for a body of water like that would be a swimming worm - just a plastic worm rigged slightly crooked on a single hook with a swivel a foot or so above it - that will allow it to rotate when slowly reeled just under the surface - the jumping fish are probably not bass.
  5. If the rig feels good to you - it is.
  6. It was our line of choice for years, casts good and of course you check for nicks and abrasions as you would any line - you can afford to retie often with this line.
  7. I fish mostly in the midday hours - been using various top waters for many years - mostly frogs now - mid day is as good as any for big fish on top. Mostly it's a confidence thing.
  8. They don't work well or you would see them used more - it's been tried many times over the years.
  9. optimum double diamond is the most effective for me
  10. optimum double diamond is my favorite trailer for swim jigs and chatterbaits - they are a very well designed lure
  11. A pro friend uses braid on a 7' H or MH - for myself I've always used mono - they are very versatile as to where you can fish them - over weeds, in timber, rocky points, deep, shallow - the 1/8 oz. is a killer on river smallies.
  12. tackle tour review couldn't find much difference in performance between the two.
  13. change frogs - if you're in the miami area with pads and wind use a furbit - a fragile frustrating bait that slays them in those conditions - also if you threw a frog for 8 hrs. without a strike throw it for 9hrs. Frogs are effective until the wind is blowing the lily pads up into a curl - then it's spinner bait time. Also there are mice with spinners and the boze zz walker to name a few good change up baits when the conventional frog isn't working.
  14. Last month I fished with two old friends who use live bait - one used night crawlers the other minnows. I threw a ned rig - my rig outfished them 10 to 1. I was covering more water and a wider depth range - that said there are days when the live bait guy is going to be much more successful.
  15. Ugly sticks are perfectly good fishing rods - tough, durable and I've killed a cottonmouth or two with them in close quarters.
  16. Check out the ned rig - ned kehde's blog at in-fisherman - guarantee you will catch fish - maybe more than more experienced anglers. It doesn't require anything other than inexpensive light to med spinning outfit, a handful of jigheads and some cut down stick baits. That's the rig I start children/and beginners out with - it is fool proof. It has saved many a day whilst I was guiding.
  17. I'm plum overwhelmed -
  18. I crank the drag on my ardents and others down tight as I can - 50# sufix performance braid - still slips just a bit - but I use a powerful sweep with frogs.
  19. Those fish are probably very smart/ high-pressured - try a swimming worm - one that swims in wide spiral - old trick for super clear water with visible fish - it might work.
  20. Works everywhere - it's caught fish all over the world
  21. That'll be a good rig for you - but, I'm a big fan of 832 for most anything but frogging - the sufix performance braid will do you better - the 832 sinks faster - you can still use it but the performance braid will lay on the surface better.
  22. I've taught fishing and casting to many many folks and I always stress before you can be successful you must learn to manage your line, be it fly, spin or revolving spool.
