  1. I think it was Rick Clunn who says there are no limits in bass fishing - Bill Siemental says something similar - all great bass fishermen experiment - With the pro tournaments influencing the market it's easy for a bass fisherman to forget he can blaze his own trails.
  2. flat finish and shiny finish - one of each in your choice of color -
  3. Become a deadly duo - front man power fishes for the real aggressive ones, top water, crank, whatever, the guy in back pitches and flips - team effort - if one works better than the other then both up front. Many, many team tournaments won by guys that have figured this out.
  4. I have an fairly extensive fishing library with the majority of them on bass fishing - I wish I had a copy of Buck Perry's book - did anyone mention Bill Siemental's book Big Bass Zone - I thought it a good read and some ideas that are applicable anywhere. For those interested in the history of the sport - Lucas on bass fishing by Jason Lucas - read what they used in the 40's and 50's and, thanks to BASS - Book of the Black Bass by Dr. J.A.Henshall --- these last two may not teach you much but they are foundation blocks of the sport of fishing for bass.
  5. I've weaned myself off of flipping fish into the boat - it's not good for them and (for myself) it doesn't show the fish the respect they deserve.
  6. Used 10# yozuri for years for bonefishing - no problems.
  7. My favorite flipping bait since they came out.
  8. I don't see why they should make a cheaper rod - it doesn't make sense - that market is flooded.
  9. I can't warm up to the mojo - big fan of the rest of their line up but for the mojo price there are many other choices that suit me better.
  10. Anytime the water is close to 60 or above it's foolish to discount a topwater - I'm not talking about the dawn and dusk popper bite. But the few and far between monster bites that more often than not come at midday. Frogs and spooks will get the job done.
  11. Water like you described - frog - frog - frog - if it's windy throw a furbit - keep throwing - you'll catch that pb sooner than you think. Did I mention throw a frog?
  12. All good suggestions - successful fishing is mostly between ones ears - so the more organized and simplified your gear is the more clearly you can concentrate on actually fishing.
  13. Must remember - if it has a hook it can catch a fish.
  14. jig and more jigs
  15. Leverage - I still have several - absolutely the best 1/2oz shallow water spinner bait I've ever used.
  16. Nothing wrong about Skeet's yellow rods - the rod is fine for someone of Skeet's abilities - he'd do okay with an ugly stick - as would any pro on the major circuits.
  17. I will rewrap an old rod and replace the old guides with newer lighter ones - put on a rec tip top and have a considerably more sensitive and lighter outfit. Wouldn't work with a club but it does wonders for many old rods.
  18. Big topwaters (frogs included) are big bass baits - you gotta have faith in them - if you do you'll catch some big fish at times and places you wouldn't think possible.
  19. Case plastics Big Momma - try it you'll like it - zoom old monster for a ribbon tail.
  20. Shimano calais was the smoothest reel I've owned - it was flawless - I gave it to my grandson after years of use and it's still butter smooth.
  21. It's all about confidence - if a $20 custom paint job gives you confidence then do it.
  22. Don't forget original rapala.
  23. Ahh the hellbender - you could crank that sucker through timber before we ever heard of square bills.
