Thanks for the help everybody. I gotta get some cash together and pick one up...and when you say you have thrown some swimbaits on a regular low profile reel, do you think a basspro extreme would work well? I have the 6.4:1 sitting in my truck

I am looking to start doing some swimbait fishing. I'm in college and pretty much broke. Does anyone have any suggestions for a decently priced (if not cheap) swimbait setup. I'm talking rod, reel, line: the whole deal. I don't think I'll be throwing anything heavier than about 2 oz. (I think Mattlures Bluegill Ultimate is around that weight) Thanks for the help!

I am pretty sure he was counting down to a whole bunch of opinions, maybe an argument. I am not completely sure though. There have been a few posts about it. A quick search should give you some answers. I remember the answers being a mixed bag, although I don't remember anyone swearing by them. Whether or not the light really attracts fish, they look like quality lures.

How are those swimbaits? I'm considering a trip to Spartanburg just to go to academy. is it worth the 100 mile drive?

I'm a first year business student at The University of South Carolina. I work at a driving range part time when I'm home for beer and girlfriend money.

I read Mike's book, Fishing on the Edge, and he has won a lot of money on that jig. I don't know what he used as a trailer but he seemed to rely on it quite a bit.

Now we have 4 running backs...I can't believe he chose Carolina with all of the young RBs we already have. This year is gonna be an interesting one. No Norwood, too many running backs, and a solid freshman quarterback. I can't wait till August...and of course November when we embarrass Clemsux again.

Crappie are super aggressive in my personal experience. One day while bass fishing I caught one a Bomber Model B (that thing is 2 1/2" long and FAT) and one on a 1/2 oz spinnerbait. They were going crazy that day I guess.

2 GRAND? Maybe it's time for me to start eating my words. This semester i would have only saved $40 as most of my books were not on there. Maybe next year. But if I'm saving 2 grand, they could spraypaint their logo on me for all I care.

Chegg puts their stuff everywhere on campus. I can not stand them. They put stickers all over my door and a fake ticket on my truck and they spray paint their logo all over the sidewalks...They drive me insane.

An idea i saw in FLW recently was instead of using a grub, throw on a small colorado or willow blade (I guess you could use any blade), put it on a ball bearing swivel, and rig it like a trailer hook with the plastic tubing. It looked cool in the magazine and should give off some good vibration. I havent had a chance to try it out but it looks good in my hand.

hey man I live in Raleigh. As far as shore fishing goes, I prefer private ponds. Durant Nature Park is decent. Umstead seems to be pretty good although I have never been. Not trying to take anyone away from BR, but I am also a member of NCAngler.com, its a website similar to this (on a smaller scale) that has lots of helpful information about shore fishing the Raleigh area and the rest of North Carolina.
