We have lakes here( forest preserve) they stock spring and fall. i have done very well with fatheads(med) minnows 3' under a float before the ice came,i do not ice fish but i've read reports up here they are still pulling them thru the ice on live baits

Not in that order, but i have a shinano reel on a daiwa rod its my lake michigan salmon setup

I recieved for xmas my first baitcasting setup/combo Pflueger Echelon on a allstar instinct rod 6'6" m fast. cant use it till spring so it will be hard to figure out if this combo is good for learning to baitcast with. is there anything that is easy for first timers to learn with? I can take it back if needed, just need to know if this worth keeping or exchanging it and adding some cash to get something like a shimano citica and get a rod later? any advice would be great. thanks

thanks for the input rangerjoe. cabelas just took that combo off the sale,& replaced that sale with a 20.00 off 100.00 purchase so i'll pick up the shimano citica for 99.00 & look for a rod later
