  1. Dobyns has a 705CB which is graphite and the 705CB Glass. The 705CB Glass is actually a composite with graphite lower sections and the glass in the upper third. The 705CB glass has the slower parabolic action of high end glass but not the bulk and weight commonly found with glass. I fished a Lamiglas SR705R for years and it was at one time considered the standard by many. Once I fished the Dobyns I was amazed at the action without the bulky feel of a large diamemter tube glass rod. The Dobyns is very versatile because of the power in the lower portion of the blank. I also have the 704CB Glass, 704CB and 764CBRM which are graphite. St Croix makes an excellent product. No one can deny that. I just like Dobyns alot.
  2. Esophagial spasm was the most likely cause. After eight blood draws, three EKGs, ultrasound and Stress EKG the cardiologist told me I have no valve issues, no arterial blockage or constrictions and no evidence of cardiac disease. I go back to work tomorrow. I feel fine other than the crappy hospital food. It was a scare though. Thanks for the concern Glenn.
  3. Normally, my posts or responses include some attempt at humor but not this time. I just got out of the hospital after a 33 hour stay. I had chest pains yesterday around noon while at work. That and five other signs of a heart attack found me driving myself a few blocks to the local Fire Station. I was at the ER in the next 20 minutes or so after taking baby aspirin and Nitro mist. To make a long story short, I did not have a heart attack and my stress test today shows my heart is fine. My blood pressure is not but that's an easy fix. For a moment, I actually felt very helpless and feared I might be "having the big one." I was honestly very very frightened and I don't scare often. Thank God it wasn't a heart attack. My wife came in to see me after I had my first blood draw and 2nd EKG and pretty much confirmed I had not had the big one or one at all. She needed to leave to take my son to Portland for his radiation therapy and I told her to go, I was okay. She started to leave and stopped in her tracks and walked back and gave me a kiss and said, " I better not leave without kissing you. You might not be around when we get back," and then she winked at me. I'm not sure why I am even sharing this. I feel fine. I will make a better effort of taking care of myself although i'm actually in pretty good shape. I guess it's just to decompress and let someone know my wife can wink.
  4. Here we go again. You can see Jfranco's stuff laid out in one shot but you'll have to down load Google Earth.
  5. Dobyns Champion 766 or 805 for punchin. If you are smaller in stature, lean toward the 766. It's a beast and loves braid.
  6. I somehow recall a member who asked Steve on this very forum to design and market his own RAGE spider grub ( skirted twin tail grub ) and give us the ultimate smallmouth plastic. It's time to once again lobby for this product. I have set aside about six hundred bucks to stock up when they hit the market. I'm thinking 4.5 inchs total length with colors dominated by crawfish greens and browns. To show how serious I am, it's almost my birthday and when I make a wish and blow out the candles......lots and lots of candles......well you get the point.
  7. Take a serious look at the Normans line up. The Deep Little N is my favorite crankbait hands down. For mid-depth, the Luhr Jensen Speed Trap will catch them cold to warm. A sleeper is the Luhr Jensen Hot Lips when you need small profile and depth. Bandits are right there too. This selection will not break the bank either. Lots of great suggestions provided.
  8. My strength is admitting I have none. I try to fish every situation to the best of my ability and experiment. As far as emmotions go, I get excited and I get bummed but not discouraged. It's why I enjoy fishing.
  9. Glacier Glove neopreme. I wear them for winter steelheading and cold weather bass. Pretty good product. TW has them.
  10. Best new rod? Zebco Snoopy rod. They are better than every other rod, appeal to the six and under crowd and are 1/57th the cost of a GLoomis NRX. I am not affiliated with Zebco but did read Charlie Brown comic strips as a kid.
  11. I don't know about you Dwight, but I have a difficult time remembering anything let alone trying to intentionally forget it.
  12. Commit yourself to learning the dropshot technique because it will produce in water 3 feet deep and 43 feet deep.
  13. Thanks for sharing. It's the first I've heard of them. I have over 90 Normans and none has that pronounced seam along the back. Strange? It looks a great deal like a SK series 6. The jury is out for now.
  14. Notice I included a criminal ledgend ?

  16. I also use the Dobyns Champion 704CB with a Lews Tournament Pro and #10 YoZuri Hybrid. I know a couple of guys who like the 685CB but I prefer a 7' rod.
  17. I agree 100%. This hook in 4/0 worked really well for me last spring. The wire is larger diameter that regular hooks so a solid set is required to penetrate. They do not flex however.
  18. I'm with you. I still have 5 BB1n's but retired them. It's strange how a reel with thee bearings and such a simple design can cast so well. I taught my children to cast with them before they were 10 years old. I think they are the most forgiving casters ever produced. No magnets, just brakes.
  19. What is positive and what is negative is established by the person and subject to the person. Being a sponge is not a bad thing. Knowing when you need to rinse and how to rinse is the life skill I want to develope.
  20. Six pound plus smallmouth
  21. Honey ? Where's my Visa card ?
  22. Doug, there will be a time when the response will be, " I don't know, go ask your mother." By the way, my sons ask me the same type of questions and they are 36 and 39 years old. Now I tell them," I don't know, go ask your 4 year old niece, Olivia."
  23. Many of the members here are somewhat brand loyal but the truth is, there are so many quality reels in their respective price ranges and they perform at a high level. An angler could do well with any of the models mentioned. Personal preference.
