Geez Cliff, nice one. My PB LM is a tie at 7-13. The first one was in 2 feet of water in July about 25 years ago. I little tuft of water celery, an in-ine buzz bait. 28-1/2 in. long and skinny as a rail. I picked up another 7-13 this past April on a spinnerbait at Clear Lake. Much shorter and a belly bigger than mine. My PB smallie is a 5-5 and I got her in April on a Normans DLN in 10 feet of water on a sand flat with scattered boulders. Obviously, from what else i've read here, I need to fish more ponds ?????

Casting: Dobyns Champion 733, Lews 6.4, Yo-Zuri #15 (MH/F) Spinning: Dobyns Champion 703, Shimano Saros 3000, Yo-Zuri #8 (M/F) I honestly believe I could do 75% of my fishing with these two set ups.

2011: Made it to Clear Lake and caught some really nice fish in spite of a terrible weather pattern. Matched my personal best large mouth. Caught my PB small mouth. Learned a ton about some new locations and had some hot trips while doing so. Fished in three tournaments and didn't come in last in one of them. Made friends with some great guys on this forum. I can't complain. 2012: Back to Clear Lake. Fish a swimbait more. Just get out more. My job this year was brutal on me and should improve. I still want to break 9 for largemouth and 6 for a smallie. I can only hope and try and put my time in. I just want to keep learning and maybe get just 1 more rod and 1 more reel. Just one.

Your boyfriend is very lucky to have someone who takes an interest in his hobby/passion. To be practicle, I would suggest a gift card but from Tackle Warehouse. They will have those specialty items dedicated to Delta fishing. I think TW cards are discounted right now. Then, take the time to sit down with him when he orders product and ask him why he is buying what. You learn, he get's stuff that will go to use. Pretty good deal overall.

I throw the Heddon Super Spook quite a bit in the late summer and fall. I have settled on a Dobyn's Champion 733c( like the full rear grip ), with a Lews Tourny 6.4 to 1 with Suffix 832 braid. The Dobyns has just the right tip to snap and give the line back and plenty of power to set the hook on long casts. This set up is really balanced and reduces fatigue for me. I like the braid to float a little bit and no stretch on that hook set. I'm happy with it.

I would not try to suggest anything until I knew the kinds of water you plan to fish, the species of bass and so on. So many lures are region specific and many do cross over but more info would really help. I would hate to see your good money spent on gear that won't be productive.

Yeah you California guys have some special water. At Clear Lake, a 20 LB limit doesn't even get a second look. 27 lbs will get you a nod.

I couldn't agree more with Glenn. I was at a conference several years ago and Easy Company Sgt. Don Malarkey spoke. He was one of the Band Of Brothers. Over 300 cops gave him a five minute standing ovation. When he could finally talk he asked if someone would get him a scotch and water. With in thee minutes he was served. I will never forget that.

Sometimes my buddy and I will do a best five if the fishing is really good. October 2010 I had 5 smallmouth for 24.2 and caught all in about an hour. I still get Goose 52 bumps remembering that trip.

For bass fishing, the ability to present a bait exactly where and how you want is critical. Baitcasters are not looked at as line holders such as when trolling or mooching. It's for that reason that purchasing the best quality reel you can afford, even pre-owned will help you to be that succcessful caster. When you have good equipment the fishing is so much more fun. North Fork Composites is a Loomis company. It is salmon steelhead driven and the focus is drift rods and fly rods. Temple Fork Outfitters ( TFO ) is a bass line that states the rods are Gary Loomis designed. May I suggest you reserach TFO further less you think it's a Loomis rod. It is not. Check Tackletour.com and look under archives and check the rod section for a review and history. No one can deny Gary Loomis is a talented rod designer. I live 20 minutes from Woodland.

Kent that was well written. My fishing partner and I went on a three day in October. The first day was pretty darn good. Decent weather and the catching was good. Day two weather was terrible. Hard to contol the boat, lost fish, lost crankbaits, wet and cold and down right tough. I was happy to get a couple of three and half pound smallies. He became rather sour and was not pleasant to be in the boat with. Day three, didn't even launch. Went home early, still sour. He called me the next night and said he was sorry for having such a crappy attitude. He vowed he wouldn't do that again. I told him I understood and if the situation became so out of line, I would be honest and tell him as a friend. Attitude, what ever it is can really set the tone for your trip regardless if you share it or are alone. A really good lunch also helps.
